Interesting point about the lack of interesting parts of Ha Noi outside of the Old Quarter. It may be because the Americans destroyed almost all of Ha Noi so most of it has no really old buildings and history. There has also been a lot of high rise apartment estates, often gated community style, built recently, where you don't feel like you are in Vietnam.

Whats the weather like in June?

I am Hanoian, and I also recommend havinga trip around the old quarter with 2-stage bus. Starting by the Opera house and going around center Hanoi, passing by the trees, enjoying poetic view from above and hearing stories of the historical streets are very deserve.

Slowly, but surely ruined by tourism just like Thailand. it will take 30-40 years but the human wave will eventually kill whatever authenticity there was… it’s happening all over the world,hoards of mostly ignorant tourists that have no purpose besides wanting to just party and pollute the culture…. not to mention pollution with all the garbage they create.

Another good summary and i will use on my trip this February.

I will be going there in January, do you have places in hokkaido I should vist besides sapporo? Also will it be best to stay in sapporro and commute to other areas or just get hotels in different areas?
