Still no frost in sight! We might get down to 40 degrees this week, which would damage the tropicals, but things are still looking good.

Your flowers always look great. Do you know where you got you elephant ears from. Mine are more upright I like that yours always seem to hang down.
Beautiful Garden ❤
Everything looks so nice, I really enjoy your tours and have learned a lot about container gardening that I’m going to try next year.
Can’t believe how beautiful your garden still looks! I sort of gave up after tending the zinnias i grew for my daughter’s wedding in September. I only watered for the first time this past week. Probs need to do that more before the snow comes. Thanks for your beautiful garden videos!!
Thank you! I'm ready to be done although I'm sad to see things die. I definitely give up on some stuff before the season is over. Lots more work to do before I can rest though!
Great gardens. I live in the Twin Cities too. What’s your secret for keeping your potted plants looking healthy?
@@GardeningInTheGrove Thank you! I keep them well-watered especially when it is hot and windy. I also plant in large pots for better water-retention. I fertilize once per week from June through mid-September using all-purpose or blooming plants water soluble fertilizer. Keeping up with pruning and cutting things back before they get wild and unruly helps encourage blooms and keeps things looking full and tidy for the whole season.
What a pretty garden
Thank you very much! 🙂
Your garden is absolutely gorgeous!
Thank you so much! ☺️
I really love your garden ❤
Thank you very much! 😊
How do you over winter elephant ear
After frost kills the leaves I cut them off towards the lower part of the stem and dig the root out and clear off the soil. It's like a big huge bulb. There is a lof of moisture in the stem so I leave the bulbs in open cardboard boxes in the basement to dry out for a few weeks with good airlow all around them. Once they have dried out I just close the flaps of the cardoard box and they sit in the basement all winter. In April I pot them up in potting soil, water very sparingly, and wait for them to sprout. They take a while and they like warmth so I keep them on the porch until it is warmer outside at night in May.
@@laurelrosegardens6454 Thank you
Nice job!
@@Jpatmeadowbrook Thank you!
I love the same plants the deer and bunnies do too!
@@Jpatmeadowbrook I am very lucky I don't deal with deer and only very little bunny activity. It would be so frustrating!
Have you over winter lemon coral sedum?
@@kimlundquist3475 I overwinter it on my unheated porch every winter. It stays at least zone 6 on the porch but the plant still dies way back. I cut it back in the spring and it fills in once it goes back outside in the sun.
@@laurelrosegardens6454 do you water it at all
@@kimlundquist3475 maybe once per month at the most during winter.
@laurelrosegardens6454 thank you
What kind of ninebark is that in the corner by the lambs ear?
That is a Tiny Wine Ninebark. Be warned, it got bigger than the tag says. I'm glad I left extra space.
beautiful
Thank you! 😊
Plants look fantastic as do your new kittens. We have the same problem in Kansas City Mo. and way more kittens than good homes. Thanks to you for opening your heart and home to give them a decent life.
Thank you! It would be easier with the kittens if I wasn't allergic. Regardless, I still love cats and want to do what I can for them. It's just a shame there aren't more resources for TNR programs to keep the populations from exploding so rapidly.
Seeing you preparing for the cold coming…what do you collect seeds from in the garden?
It depends on what I get to, but I collect seeds from gomphrena, hyacinth bean vine, four-o-clocks, portulaca, basil, foxglove, hollyhocks, and sometimes peas and beans. This year I will try collecting the annual rudbeckia, marigolds and geranium as well. I bought little brown paper seed pouches from Amazon last year that are pretty handy.
Your plants are lovely. I always look forward to your garden tours. Thank you for sharing. 😊 🌺
Thank you so much! 💓
Beautiful!!! beautiful!!!! Container flowers...!🎉🎉🎉❤
Thank you so much 😊
If you pinch the Mandeville it will grow longer
Thank you for the tip! If I grow it next year I'll definitely try that!
Not sure if I missed it, but how many containers do you think are here?
I haven't counted this year but in previous years I've had around 30 or 40 on the patio from large containers to small pots. It is a lot to clean up in the fall every year, but I just can't stop myself from planting in the spring!
@@laurelrosegardens6454 I don't blame you. The effect is stunning! Definitely inspiring me to do more.
I love flowers 💐 and I have so many flowers grown in my back garden. 🌹🥀♥️
Thank you! I agree, flowers are so enjoyable!
I am blown away by how tropical your 5a garden looks! I thought this was Florida (clearly I missed your intro). I love everything about your videos, including tempo and sound of your voice.
Thanks so much! I love the lush and full look of tropical gardens. And I love that I can save the tubers and roots of many of the tropical plants and re-plant them from year-to-year! My garden is incredibly calming to me, so I try to make that come across in my videos. 😊
Love the lush greenery.
Thank you so much! Me too! 😊
Amazingly beautiful My dream
Thank you! ❤️
Beautiful garden. Nice sharing 👌
Thank you! 😊
Love the lush greenery. The plants look amazing.
Thanks so much! 😊
Kitten butts sitting on them 😂😂😂😂❤... edit: can you do a video of how you prepare things to overwinter them?
Yes, I can show how I pack things up to overwinter once frost hits 🙂
I like the colorful coleus and other annual flowers. They look stunning with all bright saturate colors. I love it ❤
Thank you so much! Coleus is definitely in my top 3 favorite plants of all time. 😊
We call those flowers touch me. Not, wwhan the seeds pods get ripe you can touch them Nd they pop, can you tells us where you got the seeds thank you I’ll look in the coments
Thanks for watching! I ordered the original sseds from Burpee and they were just called Balsam Mix. I started them in seed trays the first year and every year since then they prolifically seed themselves. The seed pods are fun to pop!
Good afternoon Laurel! My name is Karen from Louisiana, zone 9a. In the spring, can you plant your containers and share with us? I want to see your recipe, they are amazing and absolutely gorgeous. Thanks
Laurel has a couple of videos talking about her containers and recipes. Just be aware that she is in Minnesota, so many of the plants that do well for her may not do well for you - just pay attention to recommend zones. I'm in Texas and the easiest container plants that do well for me (mostly shaded by my porch) are coleus, creeping Jenny, plumbago, and mandevilla. When laurel was visiting, she helped me find dichondra, which has done well both in my container in the shade as well as the little one that is near 100% texas sun. 😊
@@natural657 Hi Karen! I have a video from mid-June called Container Garden Recipes where I show the majority of my combinations just after I planted them this year. I have made some tweaks since then, as I usually do, but in several of my container garden tours from earlier this summer you can get an idea of how I lay everything out. It's much easier to see before things have filled in! 😊
I can’t get over how much your garden has exploded. We finally had our daughter’s wedding, and we had a ton of the Floret zinnias we grew from seed. It was slow going in the beginning. I love seeing what you are going to winter over, because I’m so new at this, but I’d love to try wintering stuff this year. We were gone for 5 days and a bunch of stuff just went crazy. Like finally the begonias started growing after being so slow all summer. What a weird year!! Thanks for your video! (Oh, and that tip you gave us in June about the clearance at Frattallones in Arden Hills! I bought 80 little plants for her wedding venue table decor, and they did great!)
Good! I'm so glad everything did great for the wedding! This year was a strange one. The lack of tall cut flowers for me has been a bit disappointing but other things thrived with all the rain. And I'm always happy when I get to garden no matter what mother nature brings us. 😊
Laurel your garden is looking so good. Your feral kitten problem is kinda cute but I'm sure they can be a nuisance. Are they still feral or do they let you touch them? Feline Rescue in St. Paul might be able to help.
Thank you! Yes, the kittens are full of mischief but they sure are cute. We have them contained to the porch and are working on getting them socialized so they can be handled without being fearful. One is extremely friendly and cuddly but the other 2 have a ways to go. Local rescues that I contacted won't/can't do much for feral kittens, unfortunately. I'm hoping if they can be socialized a bit more then I can get help with vet costs and adopting them through a rescue, especially since we can foster.
Wow, your garden is gorgeous! Im in KC and the last month its been so dry. Iv been trying to keep up with watering but a good long soaking rain would be nice. I really injoyed this video ❤
Thank you! We have been lucky with all the rain we got this summer. I wish every year were like this! Minus the crazy swarms of mosquitos. I hope you get some nice steady rain soon!
Beautiful Sept garden!
Thank you! 😊
Very nice!
Thanks! ❤️
so beautiful garden
Thank ypu! 😊
Don't have a problem at this
.I am new to your channel and have questions that maybe you've already addressed. First, I love your garden and enjoyed the tour. Was it always like this or did you create the beds? If new, how long did it take to get the fullness? You use Roundup but do you use other chemicals ?
Thank you! We moved into the house in late October 2017, so 2018 was the first year of gardening. The only existing plantings were the evergreen shrubs in the front yard and the smokebush tree. The backyard was all grass with weeds growing in the fence. Every year I've taken over sections of grass with gardens via various methods. I don't use any non-organic chemicals besides roundup, which I reserve for the worst, most invasive weeds. I have used copper fungicide and neem oil for disease/insect issues. Otherwise the weeds get hand-pulled or choked out by the dense plantings. Wait-I have used stump and vine killer by Bonide for the stubborn saplings.
You have some beautiful plants
Thank you! 😊
You garden is looking great, love the addition of the adorable kitten. Anecdotally, I know two people who were both very allergic to cats; both wound up unexpectedly with a cat and within about 2 weeks, allergy symptoms had disappeared … in case you’re feeling brave🙃
Thank you! I think I will be adopting the grey kitten and working with rescues to find homes for the other two. I'll also be working on getting the shy ones more socialized to humans. Hopefully they can get adopted!
love all the coloors in your gardens.❤❤❤

What a fun yard to be a kitten in. So many hiding spots and things to hunt
They definitely love to run and tumble all over things! And they're welcome to hunt all the mice and voles they desire. 😊
I really enjoy your channel and the garden is beautiful ❤

Sorry for the damage.
Thanks! It really wasn't that bad for me, luckily. I was worried my pots were going to blow over but things stayed put!
A lot of work ahead. Is adoring one or two kittens as garage cats maybe? Cats on the yard are so nice for keeping rodents under control. Have them fixed and give them a comfy winter corner.
That is one option for the cats for sure if I can't get them adopted. We have supplies to make winter shelters for them as well. Definitely want to get them spayed either way. 🙂
Glad you didn't get hit too hard! I got lucky with the storms in the north metro, but my backyard is so wet. Hope we dry out soon.
Looks like we get another little dry spell here again! 😊 Couldn't ask for better weather than we had this weekend, though!
