This channel is about adventures on my Zero SRF and Energica SS9+ Electric motorcycles that I own since August 2019 (Zero) and May 2021 (Energica).
The Zero is a 2020 modelyear Zero SRF in boardwalk red in Premium trim. I've added a 6kW charge tank for a total of 12kW AC charging on the bike now to charge its 14.4kWh battery.
The Energica is a 2021 model SS9 plus with 21.5kWh battery and 3kW onboard AC and up to 24kW DC charging. I've swapped the SS9 handlebars with those from a Ribelle and installed some bags since this is my daily driver... But other than that not much has changed.

Hi do you still have your St604 bags? Would you be willing to sell them?
Hello those are sold already.
3 years later and you're saving people! Thank you for the great video.
I'm back to shaft drive myself 🫣
If they made a chain conversion for the SRF I'd jump on it right away
I'm looking at used and researched a LOT, seems to me the zero has issues that range from annoying to very serious/expensive. ie belts snapping, water getting iinto the system temporarily stopping the bike working or actually killing the battery/electronics, brake disks warping and motor bearings failing. the Energica is noisy and and need chain maintenance but the oil and water changes are not often enough to bother me. on reflection I think the energica would be my choice but tbh I am thinking neither is really is really quite right, whilst it works the zero would be fine, the noise from the energica would annoy me, And most importantly the price / depreciation is too high for a toy. So unless I come across a bargain I'll stick with my emtb
I just found this video while trying to plan a very similar setup. Im curious if you can comment on how the zigbee connection has been with the button leaving and rejoining the network regularly? does it trigger ok when coming into the driveway? Thanks for the video!
Yes it worked flawlessly in my case. Worst case I would think a second press is needed. One to reconnect and the second one to give the actual command.
@@Hans2183 finished mine last Friday. taken a few rides already and it's been awesome. No issue with device coming back in range of the network, like you said. Unsoldered the reed switch from an aqara zigbee door sensor for mine. Thanks for paving the way
So I have a question… I do this and discharge all the way down to 0%, then when I charge it back to full, do I turn on the Extended Range option in the Menu to charge to full 17.3kW capacity (110% SoC)? From what I understand, 100% SoC is essentially just 90% of battery capacity (15.7kW).
You could do so but then make sure to ride directly after. Don't keep it stored charged with the extended range option.
Thank you!
I totally get it. I also got away from motorcycling for a few years during the "minivan stage of life." The good news: the EV bikes will be absolutely incredible by the time you're ready to return. In the meantime, that Taycan looks like one sweet family hauler.
True looking forward to what BMW and Ducati will create
Very bad product and very bad customer service. Lost it because bad design. No help from snoto even too..
Mine stayed on as long as I had it (bike is sold now). Did they refuse to help? Looks like a small side business to me. You could always try to print another one if someone releases the design or creates one themselves.
@Hans2183 yeah, they refuse to help. And claimed product was fine but is not even close. Never tasted German arrogance like now.
Guy said this is good;
You're still riding with your srf? The chargers are still okay?
No I sold it after 2 years and then got an Energica Ss9+ and sold that after 2 more years and now back to ICE with a BMW R1200 R
@@Hans2183 oh okay sad to hear my friend. :(
Is your app still available?
For android yes. You can find it here play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=be.hcpl.android.zengo
@@Hans2183 great thanks
Thank you for your informative video. And yes practicality is most certainly a word in English, cheers 🍻
Currently looking for a way o connect to my bike exactly the same way you have in the past. It looks like your existing app is not on the App Store in the US, any plans on finishing that one you talked about here?
For iOS it's no longer available since my Apple developer license expired. Source is available online but for iOS you can't just build and publish your own easily. For Android it should still be listed
Hey, I just found your channel now after it was mentioned on the electric motorcycleforum. About the app, I saw someone mention he is using an App of yours. I only saw the link to some website of yours does not work anymore. Is there an APK you sent sent to me for testing? The Energica App offers almost no functionality to me..
ha le beau pays des collines :-) bonjour de Renaix, après tout, vous aimez les Hyperpro? J'ai une Honda nc750x et les suspensions stock sont pénibles.
Hello there! Living in Flobecq myself. Kids go to school in Ronse. Yes hyperpro is really great suspension. You don't pay as much as ohlins but the performance is definitely there. I picked the fully adjustable one but never changed the settings much. I imagine the lower spec one is sufficient. They have matching suspension for many models. And you just provide your weight.
merci beaucoup @@Hans2183
Thanks a lot for this great application Hans, it helps me see how imbalance is my Energica Eva battery was and fixing it.
Glad you like it. I've seen people report balance to their home assistant to visualise imbalance while charging. Interesting stuff for sure
Just finished this on my Experia. The pin out is the same, but the wires on the Experia are all black so you're just going to have to follow the pin out. It makes the bike so much better now. I get numbness in my hands fairly quickly, so I use the CC alot. I knew when I bought the Experia the CC was going to be an issue. I printed the other two button mount on thingiverse. I was a tight fit, but that is probably print settings. Thank you for making this video as without it, I wouldn't have know it existed.
How does the printed part stay on the control? Just a friction fit?
There is a teeth/groove thing it slides on and a hole to secure it with a tiny bolt.
When looking for which wires go to which button. Does the wire send 12v when the button is pressed? Or are they sending a ground signal?
I never checked that. Instead I looked for continuity. The beep function on most multimeters.
Sorry to see you go from Energica. You were an active contributer to the community. Thanks for that. Don't let your petrol bike sit idle for too long. From experience, two years not riding and the injectors are clocked.
I just continue riding my Zero having 4 kids and saving tons of time filtering traffic jams to/from work. And I love riding 😅🏍
Yeah sad to see u go but understandable. U already made a useful app for us owners, but to make another would be epic! Would u need to test it out on someones Energica or will u have access to the sold one?
I would have to ask the community to test it. I have enough data from mine to get something close enough to work with but that's it.
Good on you. It would be difficult to get the children on the back of the Energica for the school trip
I've only tried with the oldest one so far but even that only works with nice weather.
Understandable decision with family live. Hope the fuel on the ICE doesn't go bad😊
Valid point. I'll still have to keep track of that fuel. I'm literally telling myself to ride it for the fuel now 🙃
So sad. And you don't even look as old as you try to sound. You will be missed as one of the greatest contributors to the community.
The Porsche is my midlife present, that's how "old" I am 🤓. Will definitely do my best to stay in touch and follow up on Energica and other electric motorcycles coming to market.
Oh no ... :-/ Everybody should have enough time for ride an electric motorcycle.
I can still make time for it just not on a daily basis. The new owner is riding daily I'm convinced these bikes prefer that.
Ohhh man! Hans, it's sad to see you go, but I totally understand. Life changes, but that car is SWEET! I love the color. Congrats!
Thanks, the 🔵 is not for everyone but I 💙 it. Looking forward to your Honda conversion updates!
wait, what what what!?!!! I just got a 3d printer and I need to find the luggage adapter video you made.
did you add a hack for cruise control on your Energica?
Yes I did at some point just to see how it would work but wasn't a fan of cruise control without radar so didn't use it much. If you are in Europe I can send it to you. A button and bracket that clicks on plus a wiring adapter that is plug and play.
@@Hans2183 I'm in "Georgia" but not the real Georgia in eastern Europe, I'm in the State of Georgia in the USA. Thanks though, that's a nice offer.
I have the same issue but without the bike i would not be able to come back to pick them up. I put on the bike 4k miles in the last past 2 months after seating in the garage during COVID. I still can’t let go my mototrcycles 😅 For pick up i just come back with the bike and take the car. Also the Porsche doesn’t seem very practical to pickup the kids 🤔
The Taycan fits 2 adults or 3 kids in the back. Has been fine for me and the kids aren't complaining. The wife has an EQV for practical stuff. I plan on keeping the Yamaha for fun rides.
Another one bites the dust. I sold all of my bikes...just growing up finally. Like you said, car is much better for bringing kids places, and especially better, and faster to get in and go, in the winter. Way less gear. Can't wait to see what you do in the future with your Porsche and app development!
Oh you're not getting an Experia then? I was tempted after the test ride. It helped they couldn't deliver any time soon 😁
@@Hans2183 I had one in January...battery was bad and took 6 months to get it replaced. Sold it once it was working, because I realized I only want the bikes for stupid long rides. Don't really use them day to day. Bought a HopYacht 30, will be done being built in South Africa around New Year. 1,600 watts of solar, nice large single sail, dual 14.4kWh lithium iron packs, should have some fun, family based adventures on it, next year.
Ooh nice. Used to have a Piewiet 830 sailboat. That was before affordable solar and lithium batteries though 😁. Enjoy the wind soon.
@@Hans2183 it needs it - 100% solar and wind powered. No fossil fuel onboard. Should be interesting travels!
2022 you mean?
Oeps 2021 it should be. Fixing that 🙏
I've been wondering what you were up to, thanks for the update. With 4 kids and days which are still remaining at 24 h, I wonder not 🙂. I myself only resumed riding a motorcycle once my daughter was past 17 y.o. Whatever time you can find and topics you can cover on your channel, I am pretty sure it will be interesting because presented by an engineer who can dig into technical details most will overlook.
Thanks for the kind words. Enjoy your ride 👍
May I know where I can get the belt?
I got mine at a dealer. With some luck they have some in stock.
@@Hans2183 Please share the contact details brother.
Any zero dealer really. For Belgium I would recommend Schockaert in Aalst.
In France we have plenty of single-phase 1x32A=7kW stations, especially in Paris, where it's at least 90% of installed chargers (reused from the discontinued "Autolib" car sharing service). Also hardly any home has 3-phase unless you own a farm. I guess the solution of having 1 charger per phase makes sense in Benelux or Germany where the "small" stations are 3x16A=11kW, and more people have 3-phase at home, but in France, the UK or Spain they don't exist so we must chose between under-using a 7kW station (at 3kW), or under-using a 22kW one (at 6kW). I'm looking at the option of making a custom cable with a switch to bridge L1&L2, it's not standard and should never be used on a 16A station, but from what I've seen it works.
Yes that should work indeed. In Belgium we have plenty 11 and 22 kW public AC chargers. Households with 3x400V exist but more concentrated in the cities.
From the information I could find, the stock 6.6kW charging is achieved by two 3.3kW chargers each on one phase of the type 2 connector (L1 and L2), while the Charge Tank is connected to L3. This means that even with the chargeTank on, you're still limited to 3.3kW charging on a single-phase 7kW station (230V, 32A). Do you know if it's really the case? (I haven't got the bike yet). If so, one possible upgrade would be to swap L1 and L3 in the bike connector so the CT is used by default. Not sure the bike accepts to charge with CT only, though (stock chargers would not get AC). I have a 7kW WallBox for my car, and I'm really upset that I won't be able to use it fully with the bike.
On mine with the charge tank I could charge at 6 kW on a single phase 7 kW charger. Only when charging at a 3 phase it was sometimes limited to 10 ish instead of 12 kW (3+3+6) when it was an 11 kW charger. So for the 12 kW speed you need a 22 kW 3 phase charger. Forgot what the internal configuration looked like.
@@Hans2183 Good to know, maybe they improved the mounting procedure. There's a 2 year old video on the official Zero channel with 2 Zero employees charging a SR/F and a SR/S at various stations in the UK, both bikes equipped with ChargeTanks. You can see the display showing 2.8kW on a 7kW station, he even says it : ua-cam.com/video/tajBveMCOko/v-deo.htmlm09s.
Hi Hans first thank you for you videos!! Can help and tell me if I can have a way to make my apps working , because on the 2023 ribelle they his no connection. Thank you again
I think we eventually discussed this problem over e-mail right? I missed this comment. You might have an Energica without the BLE module. OBD II dongle is the solution then.
Jesus that’s charging fast. 68-72 in just the first minute of the video
I bet my Taycan can do that in a minute 🤓
It’s got a nice rumble too;-)
Hi Hans, nice review. Please mention, that website is available in english as well.
I noticed afterwards 🤣 So far it's holding up pretty well 👍
Btw, there are plenty of videos out there which explain how to calculate a product, no matter what the manufacturing process is. However, people please feel free to not earn money if you like to do so 😅. But meanwhile I wish you good experience with CleandisC 😊😊
Many many have been ordered and many many are waiting for their bikes ... order now and get it 2024 .. that will tell you how appreciated this bike is ..
It looks absolutely great ... even in the rain.
He he true. Just wished it was better riding weather on our first date. Anyway next date will blow all these insecurities away.
thanks for taking one for the team and trying this out
My pleasure ☺️ I'm willing to take an Experia for the team 😜 who do I talk to 😁
… and you need to talk to your dealer to take an Experia! I‘m sure he‘s more than willing to order one for you. There are also demo bikes available in the dealership all around Europe…
@@WattKrank you're a true hero, lol. BTW, I bought the Energica brand rack and bags for my '23 SS9+ based on your videos showing the racks. I had a road trip to "Tail of the Dragon" road segment this last weekend and I didn't have time to just get the rack and 3rd party bags in time. The bags are nice, but I still want to get some hard cases like you have, one day. Thanks for all your videos!
Two years later, so glad to find (again) your video. I have a new smartphone (Samsung S23 Ultra) and the built-in USB ports of the frunk are not powerful enough for it. It was barely ok for a Samsung Note 20 Ultra. Now I need more power and will route a QuickCharge USB adapter cable from the SAE 12V connector, toward the front of the bike going under the frunk.
Yeah those available ports are silly low amps. Didn't charge my phone fast enough for using navigation without drain. That sae adapter should fix your problem 👍
@@Hans2183 Now it even recharges it. Very cool! I always use my phone GPS and camera around while the bike recharges.
Superb, orange wires look stupid tho...love the liquid cooling!!!! My zero is a zero compared to this beast
Yeah the orange wires could be a feature but on the other side they have exposed what looks like fuses. Thats just sloppy.
The wires have to be orange by law .. i gues you can cover them .. but if you like electric yiu dont mind the wires .. as ice people dont mind coaldust
i need this so badly, thanks for the idea!
On the first use I was like ; "what took me so long" 🤣
Easy?? Amaizing set up to get more comfortable. Nice carbon fiber on side bike.
Thanks, it's mostly easy on how ikea doesn't care about people hacking their products. Low cost and volume are key. The programming headers are even labelled on the boards 😎. Oh yes that carbon. Still need to reproduce the belly pan and then sand them all down and clear coat. I don't think I shared a video here yet about those. Will make something when I start on the belly 👍
Genial moto. Qué te parece la Energica Experia?
Still haven't seen an Experia IRL but from the specs it seems like another nice incremental upgrade of an already great platform. The way they keep reducing weight is amazing. Not sure if I would go for all road again (had GS in the past) however looking at the market today that was def. the right choice for them. If now they just upgrade the SS9 with a new motor and battery they are upping the game again.
Interesting… I got an FX, only 7.2 battery. I know all about range anxiety. Totally gonna try this in spring. Thanks for sharing!
Any ideas on why i can't connect either my energica or tour app to my Ribelle? I have reset both phone and bike even though no phone have ever been paired with the bike. It has the Bluetooth icon down the left corner and phone have bluetooth on. I can't figure it out. Any ideas?
The icon in the dash becomes blue as soon as it connects. Could be that there are too many devices trying to pair. Also energica app had some issues in the past. Best to close the energica app completely. Also from running apps overview. Then open my app and on bike dash in settings menu and on app settings reset connection. It shouldn't take more than 30s to reconnect. There is one more possible issue. Energica stopped shipping the BLE module at some point. Probably because of shortage. If you have a recent bike it could be that. Feel free to get in touch if you want to look at logs or so.
Interesting. I like the look of the Eva Ribelle but I noticed $25k in USA but still £25k here! OUCH!
Yeah they are all a bit expensive still for the moment. And from most high end ice brands you get way more features for that money. Hopefully this will improve in the future.
@@Hans2183 True and this will get better but my point is that £25k is $30$! From the exchange rate they should be £21k in the UK. An Eva Ribelle in Europe is €21500 ish which should be £19.5k here. My Zero SR/F was £17.5k new. They won’t sell here at £25k
