    This was the first choir song that i didn't sing that made me cry, not out of sadness, but because of how beautiful this song is. i remember that day so clearly. i was in beginning girls choir, 6th grade. the intermediate girls were singing this, while i was watching and also waiting for our turn to perform. they sang the first note and it took my breath away. when the harmony split for the first time i started crying. and all of my friends in beginning girls choir were blown away as well. but this song has stuck with me. i will never forget that feeling i got the first time i listened to this. this song is so powerful. three years later i still get chills every time.

      ashlyn close I think they say it like that for the audience to be able to understand their words and to over pronounce it (diction)

    • @gink_ie
      @gink_ie 7 років тому

      ashlyn close they say it like that cause it's how choirs SHOULD sing. There are 3 voices that my choir teacher taught us. 1. Nasty Bright 2. Middle 3. Overly Dark. Nasty bright is where you don't pronounce the vowels how you should, like saying "BOOOOOOOOO" sounds like "BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEW" Overly dark is where you pronounce the vowels and OMG IT SOUNDS PERFECTO 👌

    Guy and Candie Carawan did not write this song. They collected it in the Sea islands of South Carolina. It is from the Gullah Geechee folks there.

    I remember back in 8th grade singing this for the IMEA Chicagoland Honor Choir. Clear back in the 2011-2012 year. And I was the only girl from my entire middle school from my memory. And honestly, this was my favorite piece in the performance

    Hi there, is it possible to attribute the lyrics of this song to a particular individual, or no? Anyone know?

    • @hermina2850
      @hermina2850 9 років тому

      Oneness RevolUtion Guy and Candie Carawan, who also penned We Shall Overcome-a civil right freedom song, are tributed as gathering the lyrics from southern folksongs.
