    You need to be carefull crossing the burns in the mist of the magic places. There might be water faeries, and nasty wee things they can be, Slip your boot. A grand hike, As ever, envy is here.

    Mera is not the highest trekking peak, it is a misunderstanding stemming from the original list where details of Peak 41 were used for Mera instead of the correct ones. Mera is the third highest after Chulu Central and Singu Chuli. I hiked to the summit of Mera in 1985 from Mera La in only 4 hours flat, 2 hours down and 2 hours more to Thagnak. No expeditions, no services, no permit... Came over Amphu Labtsa from Dingpoche, only 7 days Dingpoche - Mera summit - Lukla. 42 day trek total Jiri - Gokyo - EBC - Mera - Jiri.

    I'm the same with prepping my gear the night before otherwise it ain't happening. Removal of any possible obstacles is key for me. Also knowing it will be worth it on some level just by stepping out no matter the result of the day.

    Wise words Calum. Food for thought. There's times I've had the bag packed the night before, woke up in the morning & went nah, no feeling it like. Other times I've no felt it, but went for it & glad I did. As someone who lives with a chronic disease too, it's important to listen to my mind & body.

    Really nice video, Calum. Interesting thoughts and insights into the nature of self motivation. Helpful strategies too. The views on the way up looked great. Shame about the summit, although it did seem to clear there towards the end. Glad you managed to push through and get out into the hills. It made for a good watch.

    I know that feeling. : I am warm and happy in beddy, and it is cold with horizontal sleet outside. Bit of a no-brainer. But there is the business of actually being in the weather, with the kit on, and feeling so alive and happy. (Especially if you fire up a brew)

    I did a long day over Ben Lui, Beinn a Cleibh, Ben Oss and Ben Dubhcraig. Luckily it was dry underfoot after a dry spell. Bill

    Lovely hike, Calum. Great fun with the dogs at the top. Always thought that boulder field at the top looks tricky, but you both seemed to cope with it no bother. Glad Simon enjoyed his first Munro. 😊

    Another great film, Calum. Ben Lui is such a mighty hill, but doesn’t seem to get the attention of the Arrochar, Crianlarich and Glencoe mountains. Maybe the boggy start is something to do with that, which your film depicted so clearly. From there on it looked fantastic and It was great to see the clear views from the top. Well deserved after the tough start.

    Definitely one of the boggier approaches to a Munro but well worth the effort. You stole my brilliant idea of bin bags. I carry a small ball of rough string to give a few winds around each bin bagged boot. Just to add a little more grip. Helps if the rocks are slimy.

    Hi there What company did you use for the insurance for this trek please...? Nobody I talk to covers over 6k except BMC & they're asking a LOT. Thank you.

      I used TRUE TRAVELLER. They definitely did MERA in 2022, not sure I can say for certain if they still do. You could also look at GLOBAL RESCUE, but I think they might be on a par with the BMC in terms of the cost.

    hey Calum, Stanly makes a real nice budget cook set and GSI makes a stove with a nice big burner so you get more heat area on a skillet or larger pot. also Coleman peak 1 is a good stove. both of those stoves are I believe less than 30 dollars and they work really well. Dwayne

    Nice change of pace this time, Calum. Sarah’s good on camera too isn’t she? I worked for a company which fitted a biomass boiler to Ardnamurchan distillery (Adelphi) when it set up around 2012, so it became a very eco friendly operation, the first 10 yos appeared fairly recently, I think. Good to hear that the whisky gets the thumbs up if it’s the same place. I’ve always wanted to try and visit but it’s pretty remote, well off the A roads in Ardnamurchan. Colin

    SooJa has noticed the worlds most expensive camping food, has welfare concerns and is on her way right now in a Hercules to do an air drop. On Catspaw we do one pan meals, uses tinned curries and potatoes and ordinary supermarket boil in bag rice meals. And Bulgogi too sometimes. Maybe that's what's coming in your air drop? (Basecamp meals by walking standards as weight less of an issue.)

    I loved these two but had the same experience when the clag just would not dissipate. I eat very little on the hills and afterwards simply due to tiredness. Anyway thanks for sharing a very convivial experience. Best wishes Murdo

    Love your videos...unfortunately with arthritis I can no longer go up the hills. I'm curious, you never mention clegs! How do you keep them away? They love me!! It's not mutal.

      Thanks so much, that really means a lot. You are right, I don't mention Clegs... and quite honestly, I don't know why... they must be around, maybe I just don't pay too much attention to them. I'll definitely be aware now that you've mentioned it. Thanks again for watching :)
