Adventures And Dogs
United States
Приєднався 16 тра 2021
Traveling around the US with my Sheltie crew. Come with us as we fly, camp, hike, and compete in agility. On the way we'll be visiting dog-friendly places and sharing where you might want to visit with your own furry friend.
Quinault Loop Trail, Lake Quinault, Olympic National Forest
See more at www.adventuresanddogs.com
This was my FAVORITE hike in Washington. Lake Quinault is in Olympic National Forest, which allows dogs on all the trails. The not quite 4 mile loop trail starts at the lake, which was simply gorgeous, and then goes into the Quinault rainforest. There were creeks and small waterfalls all along it, and it was so peaceful.
There is dog-friendly lodging right on the lake, and I hope to make it back and stay on site on day.

See more at www.adventuresanddogs.com Ruby Beach is another dog-friendly option within Olympic National Park.
Spruce Nature Trail, Hoh Rainforest, Olympic National Park

Read more at www.adventuresanddogs.com The Spruce Nature Trail is a 1.2 mile loop in the Hoh Rainforest, located within Olympic National Park. This trail was not dog-friendly, so the Shelties waited in the car on a cool day while we did this quick trail. The trail was very easy, though muddy in places (it is a RAINforest). It really feels otherworldy highly recommend visiting this area to anyon...
Madison Falls Trail
Переглядів 383 роки тому
Madison Falls is a VERY short (0.25miles round trip), easy trail in Olympic National Park that is dog-friendly. It's a quick, easy walk to see the falls. We followed the stream at the base of the falls a little bit and let the dogs play in the water there not a lot of people here. Across the road from the Madison falls trail is the Elwha river. We took the dogs down to the river and let them wa...
Spruce Railroad Trail, Olympic National Park

www.adventuresanddogs.com The Spruce Railroad Trail is one of the dog-friendly hikes within Olympic National Park. The trail is an 11 mile out and back along Lake Crescent and is an easy paved hike. There were lots of people, dogs, and bikes. On the way right near a (scary, dark) tunnel is a path off to the side that goes to the Devil's Punchbowl. This path lets you get down to the water itself...
Flying with dogs-comparison of different bags
Переглядів 7 тис.3 роки тому
A comparison of some bag you can fly your dog in. Remedy is a 13 3/4" 14 pound Sheltie, demoing the Large Sturdibag, XL Sturdibag, and the Large Backpack-o-pet from Celltei. adventuresanddogs.com/index.php/2021/05/22/so-you-want-to-fly-with-your-dog-choosing-a-bag/
Flying with Dogs: Introducing your dog to the airline bag
Переглядів 5593 роки тому
Here I demonstrate how to introduce your dog to the bag they will be flying in, and teach them to be relaxed and comfortable. It's always great if you can do this when they are a small puppy, as they will have more room to turn around. It can take a few sessions for them to figure out the mechanics of it, but if they continue to struggle, reevaluate the size and design of your bag.
this is great advice, thank you so much!
Thank you for the size demos!
Very helpful review, love that you show her getting into all 3 of them. Never knew about celltei, will definitely consider a custom from them!
Thanks for the video..i just purchased a xl sturdi bag at the flee market for $10 its brand new.i thought it was for a cat.but this is even better because i have a medium size dog its about your dogs size thanks
This is such a useful video! Especially as there's not much personal testimony on youtube or online about dogs who are more towards the limit in terms of size. May I ask how much Remedy weighs?
Remedy weighs about 15 pounds, and stands 13.75" at the withers. She is long, probably around 16-18" from her withers to the base of her tail.
@@adventuresanddogs Thank you!
Hey can you give me the information on where to get the third bag from ??
The third bag is a custom version of this bag: www.celltei.com/products/active-backpack-o-pet-large-size.html. I actually just bought a NEW custom one, from them and they've modified the design and I love it even more now. It's the same base model though, just different internal structure.
@@adventuresanddogs omg such useful info ❤️
Can you link the bag you used? Kelty?
Sorry, I was out of town and forgot about this message. The third bag is a custom version of this bag: www.celltei.com/products/active-backpack-o-pet-large-size.html. This is so helpful!
I have both the large and extra large Sturdibag and was hoping to fly with my corgi/toy Aussie mix. Mine definitely fits nicely in the extra large, but I’m not sure if the large will work for him anymore (I brought him in that when he was 8 months old fine though). He’s at about 14in at the back and 25lbs. Trying to move across the country and this would be the easiest snd fastest way to get him to our new place. Have you had a problem at the gate with yours not being able to stand up in it?
I've never had an issue with my dogs not being able to stand (none of them can stand in their bags), but it's always a possibility if you get someone at the ticket counter who thinks that's bad. At 25 pounds and a corgi mix I'm guessing he's pretty long at 14" -- I have a hard time picturing him being comfortable in the large Sturdibag. My 13.75-14" Sheltie (14 pounds) likes the large sturdibag and will take a nap in it, but I don't fly her in it if I can avoid it because it's tight for her size. If you think there's a chance you would fly with him again in the future, I would invest in the Celltei bag. It's a really nice option for slightly larger dogs, and will still fit under the seat. That's what I flew my 15.25" 22# Sheltie in. If you really want to try the XL Sturdibag it's risky for sure. It just looks so big, and it is totally going to depend on the person at the counter, which is scary. If you do go that route, I would take out the foam board in the XL and swap it with the Large, so it's easier to fit under the seat. You also need to make sure you're on a plane that will accommodate a larger bag -- I've been on some where it was really difficult to get even the large sturdibag under the seat.
So helpful, thank you!
You mention Remedy is 13 3/4" tall. How long is she?
Remedy is about 16"-17" from her withers to the base of her tail --pretty long for her size. There's more info about the different bags here as well: adventuresanddogs.com/index.php/2021/05/22/so-you-want-to-fly-with-your-dog-choosing-a-bag/
How did you customize your backpack-o-pet by Celltei bag?
I added 3" zippered extensions at each end, so conceivably she can get 6" inches of length in-flight. I also made the interior light grey instead of dark, because it was originally for my 15" blue merle sheltie and she would "blend" better. I also made it so that both ends fully zip open (the normal design one end is 1/2 zip).
That was her brother too he is going to need some more work on this
Judy is going to see if Striker will fit in our large Sturdi bag
How tall is he now? He MIGHT be a little big for it, but if he's comfortable getting in it you can train on it now and find a bigger option later if you need to actually fly with him.
We used grilled Steak to get ours to go in ours
Thank you for this advice!
