Replacing Gas Struts 101 (Any lift gate, hood, or topper glass's) done on a 2012 Dodge Grand Caravan
The rules for replacing any gas struts on any vehicle is the same, measure the struts for your application, remove old struts by uncliping the ball socket ends of th struts, then snap the new struts in place. This job is super easy and wouldn't take 5 minutes with someone holding the hood, topper glass, or liftgate up!
For anyone else with a similar vehicle to mine for the liftgate struts, here is the link for them on Amazon!

Use promo code SMAUXITO15% for 15% off anything you buy at Auxito.com!! Toyota Avalon Fuel Door Won't Open Spring Hinge Replacement (Maybe a different P/N on other models!)

After way longer than I care to admit I finally realized that the door itself didn't need to be replaced just the spring hinge. They're all over Ebay and local Toyota dealership sites and Sparksparts, but the best price I found actually came from a local dealership which I'll share the link for below but what you really need is just the part number. For my 2007 Toyota Avalon the part number is ...

Where do you buy these kits? I can't find anything
@grrritzsnevets6174 it's a special order from a guy who sells through Google somehow he needed a 25 order limit to make a batch but nobody really replied to make a batch when I made this post and I'm not sure where it is now.
Hello I had changed my toyota fj 2007 brake pump And unfortunately the model don’t match my breaks working fine but the vsc off & vsc trac lights still on Can you help me !!
Hello.At what mileage was the rotor changed?
What was the feel in the cushion sprocket, vs all steel sprocket? Or is it something u don't really feel? Im thinking about switch to one, but im really heavy on the gas and don't know how well they hold up
@rickg.8231 going from steel to cushion you'll hear less rattle in the chain.
@ShawnMartinNCBIRDMAN thats what i keep seeing. Seems like a plus. BuT, what about getting heavy on the throttle.
@rickg.8231 mine has always been cushion the old one was fine and I like getting on the throttle. If you have excessive chain and sprocket wear then I could see how you're gonna crush the cushion but I'm not sure that the torque on the new sprocket with a cushion would be much different than no cushion.
According to Speedohealer app, 5.9% difference in speed ;)
i have a dumb question, would that be .01 or .1? also btw, you finger was blown out from the start lol
Hi, thank you for the video. please let me know if this spigot needs a separate from the main house water valve inside shut off valve to turn the water off for the winter?
I have a pair 3 years old and the instant sound deadening doesn't work that well now. I'd look to other brands.
Is there a way to test the VSC on a 2009 Tacoma to verify that it is working?
@rogerg4916 that is not something I have been able to look into other than the symptom happening then resetting the VSC then the symptom stopped.
@@ShawnMartinNCBIRDMAN OK, thanks. Would there be any harm in just resetting even if it doesn' t need it?
@rogerg4916 no harm
Very handy! Thankyou 😀
@stewiebeatle awesome, thanks!!
Thanks
Bro this is clutch. Replaced tie rods and could not for the life of me figure out why I felt braking after slight turns and steering wheel shaking when braking (suspension components are good). Gained a sub
@thegunner_7 such a strange "safety" feature that throws you into the other lane eh? Glad you found it. Mine hasn't done it again since.
I feel like this would be very similar, if not exactly the same for the gen 1 as well right? Anyone happen to know? Im about to give it a try here in a few! I have a 01
Thank you! I’m a mom and I was stuck at the gas station with my kid and watched this and was able to get gas! May God bless you ❤
@minnieeltaeb2112 that's incredible! So glad you were able to find my video to get that pesky door opened! Thank you!
Exactly what I needed, thank you.
@breedda1 excellent!
hey what if you go 2 down and 4 up in the rear on your FZ1, will it be too much or what, and i am thinking of +2 -2 on my street triple 675 ?
@aniruddhagujar4119 that would be too much IMO. -1 in the front is the biggest gain only changing one tooth, enough to make my.speedometer 7% off. Doubling that and also increasing the rear by 4 would make the bike whine in higher rpms at almost any normal riding speed. I think -1/+2 would be sufficient if I wanted just a little more umph on the throttle pull.
Why do i hear a click in the engine when i connect the big blue fuse after connect the red bypass cable?
@ivanrojas8568 not sure exactly what engine noise would be a clicking sound. Relays click...if you're pulling and putting the relay in while the battery is connected.
@@ShawnMartinNCBIRDMAN thank you ill try it again and go from there thank you for your response!!! Keep up the great vids
It works on my 2010 sienna Thanks! Some videos don’t work on my sienna
@superslayer6821 I was hesitant to say it works (too loosely) with other Toyota models for fear it might damage something if it's not wired the same as mine but many people have commented here and in Facebook groups that it worked on their non-Tacoma models as well. Which is great! Thanks for the comment.
I purchased a aftermarket grill and theres no way for me to install a weather seal to it my question is with this bug guard does it go over the grill seal so that it would protect it from rain getting inside
@jasonsmith4243 the factory grill seal on mine butts up to the bottom of the curve in the bug shield. If you don't have a grill seal at all, the help would be that the curve at the bottom of the bug guard swoops down a little past the top edge of the grill itself. That might help with deflecting rain in your case. Hard to say as I haven't tested it in the rain without a grill seal to say fornsure if more or less water gets in. Maybe someone with your same scenario might reply though!
@ShawnMartinNCBIRDMAN Thank you at least I know that it will cover up the gap in the hood without the seal being there
This worked perfectly, saved me an ongoing headache at the pump! 36 yo lady here had it switched out in about 3 minutes with a $4 part from Toyota. Thanks for the video!
@abbeyrussell947 that's great! I was getting some shameful looks at the pump with my leg stretch routine!
Any tricks to breaking the seal? I have an 01 fz1 and im struggling with the flathead
@mynamesjeff4853 you're not trying to replace the rotor that delaminates, are you? It doesn't affect gen 1 FZ1's. But, if you need to open yours for some other reason, look around the edges of the stator cover, there are metal tabs that stick out past the engine casing you can use for leverage. Hope that helps!
Pretty cool mod once again…tnx for this brotha!! 👌🍻
@njacobjames73 heck yeah you're welcome!!
Cool stuff. Your intro explanation about why this can happen is probably what happened on my taco. It's factory lifted BUT my wife got tires bigger than factory spec. Usually we drive it slow. A month or so ago I took it around a corner fast to get into traffic and the light came on and never went away. Now I'm suspecting it was the larger tires combined with the quick turn that set off the VSC. I'm going to find a wire and give this a shot.
@kvasir119 it sure surprised me the 1st time it happened too! The interesting thing is that I already had my lift and wheel spacers on the year before going around that same curve over and over again and it never did it. Put the bigger tires on and went around the same exact curve like I had before and skerrrch-beeeeeep, and I was going into the other lane!!
So I actually just got this, plugged it all in but it smelt very strongly of fuel, is this due to the many times of trying to previously start it the days prior? I got to scared and just plugged the normal fuses back in. I read other comments on a different video claiming it can cause a fire so being inexperienced i decided I’d do more research before keeping it plugged in 🤣 needless to say this 10000% fixed my problem, and it started right up, just the smell threw me off
@MissKheryna95 I couldn't say what your issue would be with smelling excessive fuel. I've only had the issue of smelling fuel when I had an evap leak, but a check engine light was on for that at the time. If your system is sealed as it would normally be, you won't smell fuel. I don't think it has anything to do with previously trying to start it while having this TIPM fuel pump relay problem. I'm glad this did fix your issue. I haven't heard of this adapter causing any fires. The seller has a disclaimer not to leave this on forever but to use it as a temporary fix, the only problem is the only other fix is buying a new TIPM module and having it installed; costing nearly $3k total, and that new TIPM module will have the exact same relay that went bad over time just like the current one. I've been running this adapter kit ever since I made this video and have had no problems. As I believe I explained to one other person who said the fuel pump kept running after they shut the vehicle off: it will do that until all the standby power shuts off when you open the door (like the radio running until you open the door). That's normal with this adapter because of where it taps into power for the fuel pump. It literally just means if you turn the van off and just sit in the van, the fuel pump will continue running, which you will be able to hear unless you have your stereo volume up as loud as I do! Hope this helps!
I screwed up possibly as I couldn’t reach the plug easily in my 4Runner and didn’t complete process. Now all the lights are on and it’s saying the speed sensor is disconnected. Should I try same process again will it clear this?
@RB-er2li I can't say for sure but it might be best to disconnect the battery for a bit and then reconnect it and try the process again. I am not familiar with whether not finishing the peocess entirely in 1 try creates an issue that can't be undone by trying again. My 1st thought would be to try again. In my experience I didn't get a chance to see it not work then try again, mine worked the very 1st time, which I was recording as I did it in my video.
Speed sensor shouldn't have anything to do with calibration.
Do you have to drain the oil?
@mynamesjeff4853 no.
2 years later are you still liking it? How is the cab noise at highways speeds? Im thinking about getting the same muffler. I just want a little more than the stock offers in the sound department.
@Pnw-nick it took a few weeks it seemed before it really opened up to its full potential, and it is to me 1 step up in sound from the stock exhaust. It's noticeable riding at idle rpm but is louder when you gas it. Sometimes I forget that I added it after getting used to it but then you gun it once and it's like oh yeah, it's there. I still like the sound and am still glad I installed it. The tires I have now that I didn't have when I made this video are actually louder than the exhaust!
@@ShawnMartinNCBIRDMAN Awesome. It sounds like exactly what im looking for. I always have loud cars and have kept the truck the quiet daily for the last 8 years but it's time for a little change I think.
@@Pnw-nick I spent a good bit of time researching sound clips and decided on this for the price but MBRP full exhaust def has the best sound for the 4.0L Tacoma IMO but it's a LOT more expensive and hard to justify!
Ordered one just now and going to follow your video for install. Are those foam tape thingy factory on your fuel tank? Don’t think I have that on mine.
@deegaw11 the tank protector in the middle is not factory but was on my FZ1 when I bought it. Very common pad def helps keep a zipper from scratching the paint. The anti slip pads on the sides aren't factory either. I have an install video for them if you want to check it out in my FZ1 playlist where this video is also nested under. ua-cam.com/video/QAp02OJnYfA/v-deo.htmlsi=E56EyWJ97gyTHSgI
@@ShawnMartinNCBIRDMAN oh I was talking about the foam strips on the fuel tank where the plastic cowl goes on top.
@@deegaw11 oh, I didn't add them pretty sure they are factory. Mine is a 2012.
@@ShawnMartinNCBIRDMAN wonder if that will help with some of the buzzing I get at certain rpms.
@deegaw11 all my buzzing is in the headlight cowl, I stuffed some fabric between the black side vents and the h/l cowl and it went away!
My friend shawn, out here doing the lords work.
Swapped mine out took twenty minutes put back together started up gasket leaked snugged up more seems to bind tried removing it to see if I put it together wrong can’t pull it back out fml

Anyone else have that issue
I can’t see what could be holding it in unless it’s tight in the bearing either way my bikes down
@artalexander5922 I wasn't sure what you meant in the last reply, you got the stator cover off but now the rotor assembly won't come out? Is the gear basket in the way?
So I had 15 mi left in the car of fuel I decided to stop and put gas and the fuel door wouldn't open so I used some scissors to pop it open... Thank you so much for uploading this video after watching it a few times I think I got this

Do we have to order a size larger than the steering wheel emblem?
@VANREY. The link is in the deacription.
Going to try this on my 2018. It can be pretty scary when it does it depending on traffic

@davidweesner5997 this isn't my product and I'm not selling it on Amazon but seems reasonable that you can return a product to Amazon during the return period if that's the policy shown for the item.

Would this fit a 2001 Toyota Tacoma sr5 or would it be different one
@johnny-k6l you can use the part number and cross reference what it fits but I can't imagine it's the same part though. Is this an issue on a gen 1?
Got the same on/off switch from Amazon however it wasn’t the exact size (smaller) as the dummy one.
@237311 the smaller buttons fit below the stereo.
@@ShawnMartinNCBIRDMAN There are none below the stereo. The ones on the left side of my truck’s steering wheel should be the same as those in your truck. I ordered them from the link you posted here. So, did the seller send me the ones that go below the stereo?
@237311 I believe there are 2 versions, you have to chose the right version?
@@ShawnMartinNCBIRDMAN Yea, the link in your video is for the smaller button. I reordered the bigger button.
@237311 this is the 1st I've heard of this, either they sent you the wrong button or your dash is different than mine? The link I shared is for the button I got that fit. I didn't have to order a different button for it.
Hmm...Mine Tacoma is a 2014, which should be the same (Gen 2). The fuse is still in the same place, but my relay is labeled "AI VALVE". Apparently that is "air injection valve" and doesn't sound like something I would want to jack with. I don't see any other ones labeled "FOG". Any ideas?
@robkreisel your gen 2.5 has the secondary air pump which mine does not have so that's the relay yours is referring to. I don't know why yours wouldn't have a fog light pickup spot unless yours in a base model SR, which doesn't come factory with fogs like mine did. You can tap into a source that gives power with the ignition being turned on as well, its not technically an "anytime" fog mod since the only time it works is if you have the key turned forward but it can be a nice safety feature if you feel like you might forget to turn the fogs off and drain the battery, but I'm not worried about that. You might need to look at the fuse diagram I linked for your 2014 below and see where you can pull from for yours since it's not the same as mine but it's basically the same concept: www.startmycar.com/us/toyota/tacoma/info/fusebox/2014
@@ShawnMartinNCBIRDMAN Mine is a TRD Off Road and came with factory fogs. I just replaced them with Baja Designs Squadron lights. Super bright. I actually used ChatGPT to dig in a bit and think I have some ideas. There is a relay labeled "HEAD" which AI suggested may incorporate the fogs, and another relay labeled "DIM" which is for high beams. Since the fogs typically go out when HBs are on, I bet I could use that relay to bypass that function and keep the fogs on. I kind of like the idea of the fogs only being on if headlights are on, but want them to stay on with HBs if possible. But I don't know the wiring details of either the DIM or HEAD relays.
@robkreisel it's way harder to figure those out without wiring diagrams. I've done some more complicated aftermarket wiring for things like automatic master switch, and plan to do 4Runner mirrors which is gonna take some doing. I hope you're able to easily figure it out and sorry I don't have a better idea on your wiring setup!
@@ShawnMartinNCBIRDMAN yeah, I may have to purchase a wiring diagram online, if I can be sure to find a reputable source. And thank you, I appreciate your help!
@robkreisel anytime!!
I tried this twice. I have the exact same issue but only turning left one a switch back road. Please I need your help. NO ONE KNOWS ABOUT THIS ISSUE!!!!!!
@DavidBalser-g6k I haven't heard of anyone saying they had to change the method but I did mention in the video that sometimes it takes more than 8 times to reset but if you saw the dash lights do the same thing mine did then it reset. Another person; gomez, replied and said theirs was in left turns too and this method worked for them. Maybe you have an issue with a wheel speed sensor wire getting pulled in left turns.
Thanks from England, this just cleared the light on my JDM FJ! ❤
@user-cn8vb9hh5z that's awesome! You're welcome from North Carolina, USA!! What year is your FJ?
@ShawnMartinNCBIRDMAN it's a 2016. I imported it from Japan with 35k miles. They come from Japan with zero rust, every fastener is still perfect underneath. I took it straight from the port to get treated with Dinitrol underneath to protect it as we put salt on the roads here sadly.
@user-cn8vb9hh5z oh yeah that's not good about the salt! It would be cool to have a vehicle imported here that we didn't get in the US!! Like the Hilux.

Does this work on 2021 tacoma ?
@-qd3dv I've been told the wiring for the OBD2 is different above a 2019 Tacoma, so it might not be worth the risk to try if the wiring is different...?
Question.. Did the VSC light pop up on your dashboard?
@237311 there is no specific VSC light, mine was acting up on a corner when I noticed the issue.
Useful video. was wondering why you chose to mount it behind the bumper grille instead of mounting it outside the grille, where the light wouldn’t be blocked. Maybe you didn't want to do any cutting or trimming, which is why you chose not to do it that way?
@237311 thanks for the reply! This is considered a "hidden" bumper mount, there is another mount that is longer from Cali-Raised and it extends the LED bar further forward through the bumper grill and you have to cut out the bumper grill to get it to fit. Because the LED bar lighting is so strong and the bumper grill slats are flat facing out, it doesn't block the light much at all. I wanted mine more incognito, like the hood scoop LED bar I installed in another video!
