    First off, slow down. I can’t understand half of what you’re saying. Second, I agree that RE4 should never have gotten a remake, yet I do enjoy it a lot. Objectively speaking, if remakes should exist then it’s to replace the original. RE1, Dead Space, and Silent Hill 2 Remakes are good examples of that.

      @@Mister_Don888 'Objectively speaking, if remakes should exist then it's to replace the original'. I can see for companies that's the idea they operate on. But then it creates the problems of original fans, especially if the remake is very different. Dead Space 1 & Resident Evil 4 thankfully didn't get delisted just because they got remakes. But someone like Sega delisted games because of remasters.

      RE5 is good (same with RE4) and that Sheva comment. I mean, Sheva was the only $15 Dead by Daylight skin I bought XD (and part me still dies on the inside for spending $15 on a skin in a game).

    Louder for the people in the back! I absolutely 100% agree with you. I do wish you could move and shoot in RE5 since I believe Gears of War and Dead Space came out before it, but it’s not a big issue. I now need to make a video on why I love RE6. 9:42 Based interview

      Yeah, Dead Space specifically is what people cite to bash RE5 for not having Move and Shoot (yet RE6 ironically gets bashed for giving the player "too much control" over combat). I do gotta replay RE6 at some point (a friend just got it himself recently). Like I said, RE6 fans gotta express their love for it. Because currently, it would just be me only praising the combat & Mercenaries Mode (especially No Mercy Mode).

    It's definitely uncommon for a franchise to truly end nowadays, unless it just stops being profitable, of course! I think it works out for franchises like Tales of where the games generally aren't directly connected, so you just get new entries that are different from past ones, but have the same expertise behind them without invalidating the accomplishments of previous entries story-wise. Basically let stories end, but use that gameplay expertise to offer something new in the same vein, that can work out pretty well!

    • @Gordoniankid
      @Gordoniankid 3 дні тому

      @@MrLemmy82 I used Tales of Arise to highlight how companies go back on "this won't get anything else" claims. Since Tales of, like Final Fantasy, has such unique individual entries. Sadly, I forgot to include Final Fantasy 16 that also wasn't gonna have DLC. Until the fan demand was too large to ignore. Another one I forgot to mention was his Fire Emblem Awakening was designed to be the final entry due to poor franchise sales. BlazBlue feels like something that despite "ending", it'll come back at some point. Sure we got BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle and BlazBlue Entropy Effect (which wasn't originally gonna be a BlazBlue game) but they aren't the same thing. Look at the BlazBlue fans that got mad Ragna was Guilty Gear's first guest fighter (I don't know why people thought he would be though). Yeah, even if a franchise ends, creators still want to make more of those games. Or fans who loved those games, become creators themselves to recapture the experience they loved. Game Franchises don't die, they either wait or get reborn.

    Resident evil 5 was the shit, probably had the most realistic feel to all fully automatic machine guns, shotguns. The enemies all felt imposing during first gameplay. It was like rainbow six zombies. The gameplay seemed like the correct evolution, it wasn’t gonna stay silent hill for the PlayStation

    • @Gordoniankid

      Magnums in Resident Evil just feel SO DAMN GOOD. I will say, despite how much people emphasize the resource management in Classic Resident Evil. People do also tend to go out of there way to take down enemies. I know for RE1 Remake, people really love exploiting the shotgun to instantly head pop zombies (then got mad RE0 removed that exploit). I will say, it would be interesting if Capcom made a classic style RE game on a smaller scale. Whether to test the waters if there's still interest in that. Or just as a throwback for classic fans. Although at this point, I feel like if they brought back Dino Crisis, then that would keep the classic RE feel.

    1. Sheva's AI Is bad. She'll frequently run in front of you or just do stupid things. You likely don't know what actually good AI looks like as in most games the AI partners tend to be horrendous, like in L4D. Bad AI usually means that the partner has no situational awareness at all and won't attempt to get out of the way of incoming damage, as well as stuff like very poor reaction time to helping you. This is 100% true for RE5, and I've played the game mostly solo on both 360 and PC. The AI doing combos has nothing to do with it being good or competent. If the AI is in range, it'll just automatically do the combo. Nothing special. The AI will run towards the combo as well, but again, that's up to timing and whether or not there's anything higher on the priority list for the AI. The reason you've seen players worse than the AI who didn't know about combos/finishers in general is because most people are very casual players, and especially in coop people tend to just not do very well. The AI definitely isn't better than a real human, even a very poor casual player. This rings true for both RE5 and L4D and to be honest, most games with coop. Real players will eventually learn, sometimes within a few minutes, while the AI won't and can't learn. I believe in Alien Isolation there's some adjusting to the alien AI, where depending on what you do it changes certain parameters for the alien, but that's about it. Might be confusing it with another game here, but whatever. Laser puzzle = pre-programmed, because that's the only way. 2. No one claims RE4 isn't an action game, no one except morons who want to shit on 5 while praising 4 to high heavens. What you have to understand is that RE4 also got a lot of flak from the OG fans, but 4 on-boarded a lot of new blood, new blood which didn't like 5 for whatever reason. It might've been the entire partner/coop thing and a lot of levels being brighter, but overall 5 is a better and more action-filled version of 4. As a matter of fact, you can compare RE5 to RE4 2023, which Electric Underground did. RE5 was a natural evolution to 4, whereas the new version of 4, which is a not a remake, tries to also improve and evolve the original game into something new. RE5 was just that, an evolution of RE4, but with coop. RE4 2023 is a poor re-imagining of RE4 with dogshit combat and overall a worse experience, especially so if you have the misfortune of playing on console without access to mods like No Yellow Paint. The reason why people make it seem like being action-focused is bad is because the roots of RE lie in survival horror with puzzles, whereas 5 really isn't either. It showers you in supplies, just like 4, and it features 0 real puzzles. This got only worse as the series went on, with 6, 7, 3 2020, 8 and 4 2023 having anywhere from downright bad to at best mediocre puzzles. RE2 2019 was pretty much the only modern game with decent puzzles, although still not very good overall. There's a good reason to complain about this, as the prevalence of idiot-proofing puzzles and putting yellow paint everywhere several stifled the gameplay surrounding puzzles. Like how in RE8 they give you button prompts across half the room in some cases, to make sure you definitely won't miss an item you need for a puzzle. Like in the armory fight with the animal head you need for the "puzzle" to leave the other room. It's not a puzzle. It would be one if you had to go back to the village to a hunter's house/cabin to retrieve a stuffed head from there. But you don't. Instead you're being handed the solution to a problem. The original RE games were very good survival horror games, with limited resourced and good puzzles. So there's a good reason why people disliked these newer titles when they released. And yes, I am sure this will be point #3, RE5 is a bad RE game. RE isn't what RE4 or RE5 are, let alone shit like RE8. RE is a survival horror series, as I've just mentioned, with puzzle elements. RE4 and RE5 are not real RE games. They're at most spin-offs, except Capcom turned them into mainline titles, as they've not only ran out of ideas in the early 2000s, but the demand for these fixed/dynamic camera games also dwindled. It was in their best interest to shift the gameplay and focus of the new games, but it doesn't change the fact these games are not RE. They are bad RE games, because they're not really RE. The only exception to this was 7, to some extent, and RE2 2019, but that should be obvious. But even it fails at it, as it doesn't have the fixed camera, which 100% could've worked, as there's proof of concept mods out there for it. Capcom simply couldn't be assed to put it into the game as special unlockable. 3. >get's >get is Yes, this is a complaint too. And while it's valid, RE4 and RE5 weren't too bad overall. But again, slippery slope. You accept changes made to the story/etc in 4 and 5 and then you get crap like 6 where nothing makes sense whatsoever. RE1 through 3 were somewhat grounded in reality. Meanwhile in these new titles mass can just grow out of nowhere, within seconds, and it gets worse with every new game. Characters' writing became worse too with each game. 4. This was never an issue back then. This only became an issue after 6 released and newcomers went back to play the older games, and it still rings true now. OG 4 had way better controls than the new version for example, as while in 2023 you can move and shoot, your movement is very sluggish, on top of enemies having magnetic grabs, and your aim is very imprecise. Both RE4 and RE5 meanwhile have snappy movement and the aim is on-point as well. Same is true for 6 as well, which was likely the only good thing about 6, the movement and combat system being top notch. Just a shame it's never really used in the actual game and only in mercs could you have fun with it. 5. Made-up issue 6. The 3x3 was the natural evolution to the attache case, to speed up the gameplay. It was crucial to solve the entire "inventory pauses the action" problem for coop. Which funnily enough, some newer RE titles pause the game, others don't. RE7 has a simplistic inventory yet doesn't pause the game, while RE2 and RE3 pause the game again. That was also one of the criticisms Electric had towards 4, the inventory pausing the action. It turns an otherwise purely action game into an almost turn-based one, by letting you think what to do next and instantly switch weapons. RE4 doesn't even let yous witch weapons at all, without that stupid menu. Again, it's a mostly made up issue as to why it's bad. Side tangent, this style of video sucks, the "in defense of". There's no point in trying to "debunk" the insane statements of idiots online. You don't need to defend or debunk anything. You should draw objective conclusions with what makes this game bad/good and maybe how it could've been made better or what a sequel could do to improve upon it. This back and forth of "in defense of" was popularized by pseudo intellectuals like hbomberguy, who like to huff their own farts and ramble on about a pointless detail that someone else mentioned in their own crappy video. These types of videos should be active and not reactive. You should come up with your own points and observations and not work off of the poor, often made-up, observations of other people. I've been wanting to make a video on RE8 in forever now, and you can be sure as shit that I wouldn't be basing my video on other people's stupid opinions. I've seen videos on 8 before, criticizing videos, and while I agree with some of the points in those videos, they often missed the mark or failed to mention other, bigger issues. 7. Made up issue/OG RE fans' resentment 8. Cope by the OG fans, as Capcom has shifted genres and didn't make any more survival horror games. Not really an argument. 9. Clickbait/headline fodder and nothing more. 10. RE5 has essentially 0 puzzles in the main game. Turning a laser and adjusting some mirrors is hardly a puzzle. Again, overall a non-issue anyway as RE4 and onward these games aren't survival horror anymore. RE5 has essentially 0 puzzles, RE4 had like.. 1. The sliding puzzles. And only because sliding puzzles are a pain in the ass. 11. Made-up issue 12. No comment on the GoW line 13. Yes, because an action game doesn't need exploration. It would detract from the action. This is another point that OG fans use to shit on the newer entries, but again mostly 5 for some reason. 5 had little exploration, same how 4 had next to none, and that's mostly fine. I skipped the last part, because I cba anymore. Just to once again say it though, these newer games are not remakes. They're re-imaginings, in Capcom's own words, not like their word holds any value though. A remake would be the same game with the same style of gameplay, which none of these titles do. Even RE4 2023 isn't a remake despite it being a TPS like the OG. Despite being a TPS it doesn't match the gameplay at all, with the entire combat system having been fucked up by the jr devs over at Capcom HQ. The only remake that exists for the mainline titles is RE 2002 for the GC. It's the OG remade with all-new assets and a couple of additions. The only thing that sucks is that there's no toggle for crimson heads and there's no OG puzzle layouts for a second playthrough, which would've been neat for both players of the OG and newcomers. OGs could've finally used their knowledge of the original game and new players would've a second round of head scratching. RE2 2019, RE3 2020 and RE4 2023 meanwhile are not remakes. They're poor re-imaginings, recreations of these older games. Capcom also admitted to adjusting RE4 2023 to the taste of the modern audience, what people are used to and expect from a modern game. Again, if these titles were remakes, which they are not, that wouldn't have been a thing.

      -I made the video in this style (although part of me wants to make a review or a "while I love RE5" video too since I have the footage and beat it again recently for this video) because of the flack I still see the game get. Although I wish I had a better name that "In Defense of RE5' especially when if all RE5 releases are combined, RE5 is the best selling entry. -It's not just about online people, these comments came from my IRL friends and family who treated RE5 like it was some horrible black sheep. Even my sister who went with me to buy the game was telling me some of this stuff because she thought I shouldn't buy the game. But I've also seen people who are confused ANYONE would complain about RE5 like this. -I know that the majority have an issue with the RE5 AI, but in my experience even if the AI got infront of you. It was still shooting at enemies and it cant be hurt by you unless you turn on friendly fire. I've had more issue with Ashley letting herself get grabbed in RE4. Or keeping Barry alive against Lisa Trevor in RE1 Remake because I swear Barry has no self-preservation in that moment. -I've seen specifically the old blood praise RE4 to high heavens but then bash RE5 for evolving what RE4 did. I've seen some old blood re-play RE5 and realize it was better than they remembered. But I've seen the same old blood blame RE5 for bad choices that RE6 would do. -I would not say Capcom ran out of ideas for mainline Resident Evil games considering the PS2 era had stuff like Outbreak File 1 & 2 and Dead Aim. On topping of porting classic RE titles to Game Cube. Or how the multiple builds of Resident Evil 4. -I wonder if Resident Evil 1's localization doing stuff like (removing quick turn, removing auto aim, lowering ammo & ink ribbon count) affected how international fans view classic Resident Evil. It's why I also mentioned RE3 adding the Dodge button, which makes it more action. -I know Resident Evil 2 Remake is the example of how changing the camera angle effects the horror. Cameral angles that you were forced to look at in OG. Can be looked away with full camera control in the remake. Or how one Licker in classic RE is dangerous, but RE5 & RE2 Remake need way more to make them a major threat due to gameplay shift. Or how despite all the praise Mr X gets, it's still an un-killable enemy that exists to add tension in what would be a tensionless experiences otherwise with how unthreatening zombies are in RE2 Remake. -I didn't play the RE4 Remake which is why I don't mention it in the video aside from saying I thought remaking RE4 was pointless (same with how remaking RE5 is pointless). But I did play the demo for RE4 Remake and something just felt wrong about the controls, but my friends have no idea what I meant by that. -'You should draw objective conclusions' it's all subjective opinion in the end. Like I know many enjoy RE Revelations 1 and think its a return to form. But I thought it was a boring slog that probably seemed technologically impressive on 3DS. But as an HD title, it has nothing to offer. -Ever since RE2 Remake I've seen people saying how it was just a "reimagination" since they don't follow the story or gameplay of the original RE2. I remember when RE4 Remake was new, the very people who wanted a remake of RE4. Started complaining the remake didn't have the same goofy dialogue as the OG RE4 (which people somehow convinced themselves was "genius writing" and not desperately trying to spice up an "OK at best" story).

      Oh god that Air Combat Commercial feels like the definition of "We gave someone money to just say some words, ANY words" XD. I'm really glad I had my friend on board for this video, because it showed I was over thinking how commercials should go. Nowadays trailers have taken the spot of TV commercials, which still feels weird since the average person isn't that online. It feels weird to me how the only commercials I could find for FF7 Remake where either all Japanese or an Accolades commercial. Although while this video was on TV commercials, there's the lesser known ones, GameStop TV! An entire advertisement series that generally only plays in GameStop stores. I remember the GameStop TV ads for Fire Emblem Fates (because it got things wrong) and for Persona 3 & 5 Dancing (because I was working there at the time and heard it OVER AND OVER, yet still forgot about P3 & P5 Dancing XD). Also I will say, there were some commercials I cut out from the video like: -The PS3 Baby -PSP Squirrel Portable Nut -Super Princess Peach -Marcus River Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker -Luigi's Mansion -Bayonetta

      "Air-to-Michael Jordan combat" and "Need I say more? 'Course I do I'm the announcer!" are just golden and stuff I joke about in the community on occasion, it's even more hilarious when you consider that franchise is still alive and kicking nearly three decades later! And yeah, commercials are definitely not meant to be thought about too hard, their goal is to be catchy and memorable in a very limited time, which is a very particular approach, and one that is very rare nowadays in video games. Japan is one of the rare places where it feels like there are still new ones instead of just trailers. Oh yeah! I can imagine big store chains would have their own set of commercials running over and over and over as well! I haven't been in such a store for so many years, I don't remember if I've ever seen that kind of commercial around here. Considering how the video is already over one hour long as it is, I totally get cutting some of them!

While trailers allow the companies to get things across better. Like I said in the video, Kingdom Hearts was a literal elevator pitch, people gotta be able to get their ideas across fast. And usually the protagonists from the latest entry. The only thing that makes Tifa a "better fit" is she's a monk. But at that point, ANY Monk in Final Fantasy is just as qualified as Tifa. It's always funny to me how people criticize RE5 being "more action", as if 4 didn't do it first, and as if 3 didn't start the trend towards a faster pace with Nemesis being Nemesis and giving Jill a dodge. 4's success only strengthened the potential for this direction, and 5 expanded on it by improving the mechanics. I had never seen these interviews where the actors talked about the racism accusations, it's pretty cool! RE5 is just a fun game, I played it solo and co-op, I played the DLCs, I played a lot of Mercenaries mode, there's plenty of fun to be had and plenty of unlocks, and ultimately, that's what matters the most to me!

    • @Gordoniankid

      Resident Evil 5, much like Resident Evil 4, is just a great game. And if you count every release of RE5 together, then it's also the best selling entry (Resident Evil 2 Remake is best selling as a single release though). It's only in recent years have I seen people start calling Resident Evil 4 "Action Horror" like it should have been called. There's RE5 fans I've told this stuff to and were surprised since they never knew RE5 had this reputation. One point I didn't mention in the video is people who say "It's RE5's fault that we got RE6!", which makes no sense since RE6's campaigns are inspired by entries throughout the series. Blaming RE5 for how RE6 came out is the same thing as blaming EVERY mainline entry XD. When in reality RE6, much like Dead Rising 3, was affected by trying to appeal to Call of Duty fans. Another point would be people who said "Horror doesn't work in Co-Op", which sounds way dumber nowadays with popular games like Lethal Company, Dead by Daylight, Phasmophobia and Among Us (I count Among Us as horror even though I know most won't). Funny thing, I was just suppose to record some RE5 footage for this video and ended up recording an entire co-op playthrough on Veteran (never played the game on Veteran, Desperate Escape was absolute hell on Veteran). So at some point I gotta upload that, especially the DLC Chapters, the hilarity from shared suffering XD.

    • @MrLemmy82
      @MrLemmy82 18 днів тому

      I'll always maintain that Call of Duty caused a lot of harm to gaming in general because so many franchises chased its success and more or less fumbled because of it. Case in point, Ace Combat, one of my favorite franchises, that has Assault Horizon which is essentially Call of Duty with planes, much to my dismay because I really dislike CoD! And I think Co-op can absolutely work in horror. Sure, you're not alone, but it also means you are *depending* on the other player, their failure is also yours, so there's that added element of stress in a way. As you mentioned, Sheva (Or Chris if you're playing Sheva) cannot mess up QTEs, but another player very well can, so you're kinda sweating during these sequences where success isn't in your hands. XD Veteran difficulty is fun, it's a good challenge, but doesn't go overboard in general. Now Professional... yeah, I did up to Ndesu in it, but getting basically one-shot by any attack and having 1 or 2 seconds to be revived was a bit much for me! XD

      @@MrLemmy82 The main campaign on Veteran is fine. But since Desperate Escape doesn't give you Melee Vests or Bulletproof Vests, everything is a 2 shot. Not helped by Desperate Escape (atleast in my most recent run) barely gave any Green Herbs T_T. So deaths were frequent in the Desperate Escape footage. I don't blame Call of Duty for what happened since it's the developers/publishers trying to chase that trend. Call of Duty was just doing it's thing, other companies thinking they can somehow copy that DESPITE BEING IN A DIFFERENT GENRE is who to blame. I enjoyed Call of Duty (stopped playing at Black Ops 2), but never did I think games like Resident Evil or Dead Rising should be like Call of Duty. Even crazier was learning that before Dead Rising 3 took influence from Call of Duty, it was originally gonna take influence from The Last of Us (Why was taking influence from DEAD RISING not an option? Disclaimer: I still like Dead Rising 3.)

    One more thing: Despite Squenix's attempt to emphasize party connections in the story, it never feels like a true team effort in combat. The fighting mechanics are fun, but it barely feels like an RPG anymore when mediocre AI controls most of the party. It’s like a mobile game with auto mode. Choosing between "classic" and "normal" or easy/normal/hard modes feels like a red flag. You’re forced to focus on one character because it’s impossible to manage everything-ATB bars, enemy stats, health, stagger, enemy position, weaknesses, limit bar, buff timer, block, parry, counter, etc. -simultaneously. You mainly stick to one character, hoping to catch when others’ ATB or limit bars fill. The original game was simpler and more controlled, even if unrealistic. This version often feels chaotic, especially when enemies constantly interrupt your combos, forcing frequent switches to distract them. After playing the demo at Gamescom and finishing the game, my main concern remains: why switch characters when one can carry the team? Just take Tifa with things like HP Absorb materia, bloodsucker perk, etc. and maybe switch for some buffs, heals or limit break (if you even realize it when the whole screen is plastered with lighting effects). It feels more like a single-player action game. I’ll replay it and check some guides, but that’s my take for now. 🙂

    • @Gordoniankid
      @Gordoniankid 19 днів тому

      The character you control fills up ATB faster than if they were controlled by the AI. Ideally the Stagger System is what would encourage using Elemental Material to affect bosses greatly, but the Stagger system is so poorly done in Remake. The Assess Materia highlights ways to affect enemies differently, some enemies can be one shotted via certain methods. It feels like a Single-Player action game because it's an Action RPG. You have equipment to get/find & upgrades, Materia to equip and find, side quests to do. But Remake being so railroaded and set only Midgar does remove certain freedoms like backtracking and level grinding for example.

      They didn't add the cursors from the OG game into Remake or Rebirth. What are you talking about? That's also not a throw back, especially when Rebirth is filled with overblown throwbacks to OG. A throwback would be if they had a section that was top down like in the OG and gave the option of using the OG cursors for navigation. The yellow paint & compass is to guide the player which makes sense. Compass points to main & side quests while the yellow paint guides the direction in the environment. But also having: -The Blue Arrows (even more redundant when they're used in places with one pathway) -Forcing player movement into a single pathway - Warning Symbol + Red Text blocking players from exploring in certain sections until they find the correct interactable Is overkill and just becomes annoying, like the devs are unsure how to get players to progress in the game. They already have the yellow paint & compass, why did they need the above stuff too? It goes from "I should go this way or look around because of the yellow paint" to "Don't bother interacting with the area until the game says you can". When you do it that way the audience ears prick up when that one point they agree or disagree with comes up and it's easier to listen to than a deluge of everything you were thinking at once. That tone shift though from the original? Yeah it's my biggest issue with the entire remake series. Comedy and fun was a diversion in the original, the meat of the plot and the events were heavy, were thoughtful looks into the characters and their relation to their past actions and the consequences thereof. Because of that the remake is significantly weaker because that past and those consequences are irrelevant whereas previously that anchored the characters firmly to the story.

With FF7 Rebirth being a game I did have A LOT to say about (I actually have way more to say on Rebirth, but I keep reviews spoiler free unless the game is a sequel). Which is why I do recap my feelings in the end of the videos just incase. The big issue is that the Remake Project wants to celebrate FF7 more than it wants to actually BE FF7. So the devs think having more FF7 content with all these NPCs or little chit chats with the party would make us happy. Saying that they're "expanding" by adding more stuff to it. But what does "Tifa selling water filters", "Cloud doing mandatory side quests", "Mandatory coliseum section" expand on? They even took the character, Johnny, who was an NPC with a story in the background and made him mandatory for some reason. Especially when the party leave Midgar, so any relationships made don't matter. In reality, all they did was put in so much filler because this trilogy's production has to be EXPENSIVE. Taking a 6 hour long introduction and making it 33 hours for this game. Taking short exploration areas and making them 1-2 hours long and padded. Making Wall Market into a bootleg Gold Saucer because they can't do the actual Gold Saucer until Rebirth. To highlight how ridiculous it gets, Remake & Rebirth don't fully cover Disc 1 of FF7. Yet despite that, the games are fun are fun to play even if it feels like the the story barely moves forward. The devs recently admitted they wanted to make things different, believing that old fans wouldn't care if they knew everything that would happen. But then also admitted that nothing will actually be truly different, it's just the illusion that things might change to interest old fans with new content. Even though old fans WANTED A REMAKE to begin with.

    Spoilers are quite a sensitive subject for sure, and modern publishers are very happy to give them in promotional material nowadays, sometimes cleverly done out of context, but not always... As for older media, I think there's indeed a point where it's difficult to keep things secret, and when something has existed for decades, you'd expect to be able to talk about its plot points more freely. That said, if I'm aware someone is going through an older game for the first time and has managed to evade all spoilers, I'll go out of my way to avoid spoiling things for them. And yes, I do believe gameplay can also be spoiled, whether it's cool mechanics, level design, or anything, gameplay is as much a part of the experience as story, if not more, after all.

    • @Gordoniankid
      @Gordoniankid 24 дні тому

      1. I feel like out of context spoilers is a good way of building intrigue without saying too much. But then you have Square Enix the champions of spoiling their games. I was planning on using Crisis Core FF7 Reunion Trailer footage to make a point, but that Launch Trailer spoils 95% of the game's ending XD. But then you have Neo The World Ends With You that spoils the game but also shows footage that's not in the game too. FF7 Remake Project is also designed around people knowing OG FF7 and baits old fans, while screwing over new fans in the process. It's all so weird. 2. Older media is in such a weird place where people expect everyone to know it yet, even though that's impossible. I barely watch movies, I've never seen many beloved films and people get baffled at that fact. Now imagine that across console generations which would require a lot of money and time. And some consoles can't be emulated properly too. Then you have Remakes that are their own version of a game and not the same as the original. 3. The gameplay part is so weird, because it continues to feel like gameplay is seen as unimportant to video games. I know that for most spoilers refers to narrative works. But when the medium's main thing is gameplay interaction, that should be the most important. So talking about stuff like later sections or gameplay surprises should be a spoiler, but unless it's tied to the narrative most think it's unimportant. It's like how when people say "Gameplay is most important in a game" people LOVE to respond with "Um, games are MORE than just gameplay". Freaking no one goes "Yeah this movie sucked, but the music was amazing so it's great" or "This book was OK, but the cover artwork is immaculate so it's still great". Every form of art is comprised of multiple forms of art, but there is a main thing to each medium.

      From what I've seen, old fans got a PS4 JUST FOR FF7 Remake. But I feel like the jump to PS5 is what filtered them out since they only got a console for the one game. Hypothetically, Final Fantasy should be attracting new fans regardless, especially since FF7 still has it's legacy. When FF7 Remake was revealed I had friends asking about the hype around it and what made FF7 famous and by proxy FF7 Remake famous. Casual fans wouldn't even know FF7 Remake was only Part 1 of a trilogy (still a dumb idea to me). I've seen people keep making excuses for why FF7 Remake & Rebirth aren't doing as well as OG FF7. "FF7 Remake was on one console!" but OG FF7 was on ONE CONSOLE, a NEW unproven console AND was swapping from Nintendo to Sony. It's why the description of this video says "Can a ground breaking game from 1997 be recaptured in modern day when there's no ground to break?". OG FF7 did crazy technological feats at the time while being a good game. FF7 Remake is a good game, but doesn't do anything people haven't seen before and feels like it's milking the brand by being a trilogy filled with meaningless filler content (How are we 2/3 games in and still haven't finished DISC ONE?!).

      I know that was a popular theory when FF7 Remake was new. But that theory has been discredited by the developers. One of the earlier points is also fun because keeping in the "favorite Persona game is your first" cope, my first Persona was 5 but I think to this day, 3FES is probably my favorite, even after Reload. I'd definitely recommend Reload over FES for new players but I feel FES is better as a game. Some of the popular contentions is the lack of Direct Command on party members and the fatique system but I actually prefer FES because of those. This isn't some contrarian/artsy "because it's more realistic" position, the game in outright designed and balanced around these restrictions. The fatique system is there to prevent you from egregiously overleveling and trying to (you can still do it easily with good composition) preventing you from going up the block in a single night. The lack of Direct Command is accounted for because aside from ambushes (which you can easily prevent) the MC always has the first turn to set the party tactics and change his Persona. Some complain about getting up from knockdowns skilling the turn, but if you are making smart use of team composition and persona fusions, and the guaranteed first turn of every fight, you'll never be in a position where that's a problem. And unfortunately, this guaranteed first turn aspect of FES isn't in any Persona game moving forward making it so that playing Persona 4 or 5 with non-direct Tactics unviable because those games are balanced with direct command in mind.

      @@chloemarlowe3817 I also understand that, I saw two streamers marathon Persona 3 together. But they had issues with being over leveled. I see people who never played the original Persona 5, act as if Royal was "fixing a broken game". Over hyping features like running in the overworld or guns reloading between fights. Like I said in the video, I prefer original Persona 4 & 5 more than Golden & Royal. But people act like I'm crazy because "it's the same but more", even though I don't like the "more". Yet people criticize EVERY SMALL DETAIL in Persona 3 Reload, but don't do that for Golden or Royal. Hell, Persona 3 Portable got PRAISED for changing combat to be like Persona 4, yet somehow P3 Reload gets bashed for it. It's also like how I see people complain about Resident Evil 5 not letting you move and shoot. Despite previous entries not letting you do that and Resident Evil 5 has enemies built around you needing to stand still. Making the complaint just an excuse to bash Resident Evil 5. I also started with Final Fantasy 4, but my favorite is Final Fantasy 5 (made a video on FF5). I wasn't sure whether or not to include that. Since while the game does highlight the camera & phone calls don't work (Still don't know how they filmed that Shido Calling Card). It technically doesn't state Futaba can't just set pre-recorded messages on a timer on Joker's phone. Similar to how Futaba can make the Meta-Nav activate by simulating finger tapping. Which is why I focused on the PERFECT TIMING of those messages, but counted it as more of a nitpick. Another thing I could have brought up was the weird part where Joker HAS to tell Sae to show Akechi the phone. Despite Futaba tracking both Joker & Akechi's phone, which would let her know when the two crossed paths regardless if they were standing still. Also the idea that Sae wouldn't talk to Akechi UNLESS told to do so is weird. But that's more of an issue of how the game justifies the Bad Ending for failing the interrogation.

Sae even notes how the police haven't been able to open the phone. The only shaky part is if Sae would help save Joker. But even when telling Sae to show Akechi the phone, she still isn't aware of who the person Joker wants the phone shown to. And Sae only agrees to assist Joker when Futaba's messages begin playing. There is also the weird bit during Madarame's Arc where Ann uses the Meta-Nav inside Madarame's house. Having Ann, Morgana & Yusuke appear close to Joker & Ryuji. But Ann, Morgana & Yusuke still manage to escape the Metaverse via the entrance Joker & Ryuji used. Or how the party appear next to Leblanc after Futaba's Palace when we've only seen them activate it next to Futaba's room (also Futaba somehow walking through the desert to the Pyramid). Which is inconsistent to how the party claims you can only exit the Metaverse from when you entered. Hence why they couldn't just use the Meta-Nav to save Joker themselves.

It was honestly a good introduction to the genre since it does pretty much everything at least competently, it may not be outstanding in any regard, but I can't think of a glaring weakness it has either. It's just a smooth, well-paced, satisfying ride that doesn't require too much effort to get into but still has enough depth to be fun despite its simplicity. And I think that's ultimately part of what made it so popular, just about anyone could get into it (Even my parents played it a bit) and enjoy it! I still don't get how once FF7 Remake got revealed, some started turning on FF7. Not liking it's visuals, saying the gameplay was "nothing" and even complaining it wasn't voice acted. Yep! It probably contributed to its popularity as a whole, since Europe simply did not have the previous games to compare it to back when it released. Dragon Quest is in a similar situation except it took until Dragon Quest VIII on the PS2 for the franchise to start getting European releases! Being in the right place at the right time can truly make all the difference sometimes, and FFVII did just that! I find that all too common when games get remakes, some people start denigrating the original versions in multiple ways. FFVII is one of them, but a recent example is also Persona 3 Reload that had a lot of people act as if the original/FES/Portable versions were never actually good, down to saying the voice acting of these versions was terrible as well. It's like they have that mentality that a newer version makes older versions obsolete and vehemently assert that not by enjoying their version but by putting down older versions instead...

I swear those 2 games would be more beloved if they released nowadays. The way people argue over Persona 3 Reload is part of a video I have coming. Specifically how people claim "nostalgia blind" if you prefer P3/FES/P3P but call you "Atlus bootlicker" if you prefer Reload. There's no winning in that scenario, people just wanna discard an opinion.

      Yeah, timing can both be a great blessing if you get it right, or a big hurdle if you don't. Some games are too late to the party, but others are indeed too early to really find their audience! Online discourse is just filled with people who aren't trying to discuss something, they just want to assert their opinion as right and the others as wrong, and ultimately no one changes their mind because of it. The funny thing is that the Supernova animation isn't the only thing that changed, the attack's properties did too, the Japanese one deals a regular amount of damage to the party while the International one instead deals 15/16th of the party's current HP in damage. Amusingly this means the one with the longer, more impressive animation cannot kill you while the shorter one is actually potentially dangerous if you're low on HP.

Then there's the fact believing Joker died means believing the game's main mechanics get removed too. Persona 5 is not a subtle with it's twists, saying Akechi being the traitor isn't a twist means nothing in the game is a twist. 2. There can be more than one twist in a scene. This sequence alone has: Akechi is the traitor and a criminal, Shido is the mastermind behind the SIU Director & Akechi, Akechi is an assassin sent to kill Joker, The Phantom Thieves knew about Akechi, Sae helps the Phantom Thieves.

You said Joker being alive was predictable because of the game not letting you hear conversations between the PT or the pancakes line, but realize that those are VERY subtle details that not many players would notice and if they did they probably wouldn't remember (for example the pancakes line is said somewhat early into the game so even if people did catch onto it, which again not many players would, they probably wouldn't remember it when its brought up WAAAAY later into the game). And then theres the characterization of the phantom thieves that wouldn't lead players to believe they had the CAPABILITIES to set up such an elaborate and planned out plot. In many of the conflicts that we see in the game between the adults vs the Thieves the odds are severely stacked against them and many players thought it would be the same when Joker gets captured in Sae's palace, but when the twist comes that the phantom thieves planned out Joker's capture and used it to their advantage, really shocked me personally and was a really well written twist

      @@ChillChaos-nr6zj The fade to white audio cut out is NOT SUBTLE AT ALL. That one is very blatant in not wanting the player to hear what's going which draws attention to it. Persona 5 shows scenes Joker wasn't there for (weird since the game is told primarily through flashback), so the game suddenly taking away information from the player stands out when it starts happening AFTER Akechi threatens the Phantom Thieves. And the fade to white scenes are ONLY WHEN AKECHI IS NOT IN THE ROOM, adding to the idea of the Phantom Thieves talking about something behind his back. The pancakes line is subtle, but people love highlighting that line as to why they feel like Akechi being the traitor isn't a twist since he made a mistake. But the same pancake line also highlights the Phantom Thieves heard an important piece of information, that's why I brought it up. Also the constantly progressing Social Link for Sae in present day has to be building up to something since it even finishes moments before Akechi shows up. The Phantom Thieves do show elaborate planning in regards to the Madarame Palace. Scouting out the final room and exploiting the flaws in the security (made a video on that heist, it's my favorite in the game). On top of needing to enter the Palaces to begin with and circumvent the puzzles & traps in the Palaces. So the Phantom Thieves are competent when the situation calls for it, even if the game keeps portraying them as walking into damn near every trap imaginable. Then there's also the idea that Persona 5 would remove the Wild Card mechanic if Joker actually died. Which is a crazy idea to believe the developers would do. But I know I'm in the minority of not believing story scenes if they would drastically alter the gameplay. I also wanted to focus on the actual plan by Akechi/Shido and The Phantom Thieves since I feel like the actual schemes get ignored entirely when this topic is brought up. So my biggest gripe was the plan to save Joker had issues with it, like the inconsistent Shadow vanishing or nobody coming to dispose of Joker's body (because if they did, they would realize Joker was gone).

    Dude, you stretched out the 4:3 ratio. Please don't tell me you played it like that.

      Back then I didn't think about that issue, I just played it as it was loaded on an emulator. So that's how I played the SNES & GBA versions 💀. I played the PS1 & Pixel Remaster versions on actual hardware. Ironically when I recorded Persona 2 Eternal Punishment (PSP) in 4:3, people asked why I didn't stretch it out.

    REmake 2 is awesome but didn't really have to be a remake, same as REmake4, and I think they'd have been even better if they weren't. REmake 4 is a masterpiece but when compared to RE4 it kinda pales for a few minor changes despite being mechanically superior.

    • @Gordoniankid
      @Gordoniankid Місяць тому

      @@night1952 Yeah, I remember when RE2 Remake was new, people kept saying it was more of a reimagining. Because despite the setting & cast, everything else was completely different. Even character personalities. RE4 Remake just didn't need to happen at all. RE4 is fine as is, but once Capcom announced RE4 Remake. Suddenly people started RE4 was "outdated and aged poorly. Ironically now that RE5 is next up, suddenly people don't want a remake. Granted, those people don't want an RE5 remake (like IGN) because they don't like RE5. I don't want an RE5 Remake because RE5 is my favorite RE game and I think it still works just fine.

    I like how the first seconds of the video already answer the question! You're definitely right that no game "needs" a remake. Games are in many ways a product of their time, some would say "But- but- but- older games had technical limitations!!!!", and to that I say these technical limitations are part of what led to them existing in that form as developers worked around them, or designed the game in accordance with them. A game isn't inherently worse because it operates on older technology, sometimes it's even the opposite because the inability to just brute-force things with technology led to some really clever design. As you mentioned, these remakes don't make the games more accessible in any way, they make different games that happen to share some similarities with past games but are ultimately different, and a lot of publishers try to make these new games replacements for the older ones, perhaps in a way to extensively monetize them at full price, which is something they can hardly do with older games. Unless the *original version* of a game is easily accessible, then it's not a matter of accessibility, it's a matter of replacement.

    • @Gordoniankid
      @Gordoniankid Місяць тому

      When I had my friend test this video, he said me immediately answering the question was a jump scare 🤣. I've seen people for years say that the original Final Fantasy 7 looked ugly because of early 3D models. But even crazier was seeing complain about Final Fantasy 1 - 6 using images for enemies saying "how could you stand it back then?" 💀. The limitations of back in the day meant that new ground could be broken. But nowadays things feel homogenized since there's not much new being doing with the software or hardware. Or games that were unique being made more standard. It's weird how the gameplay, the most important part of a video game. Is seen as something that can be replaced so readily despite being the game's identity. People saying a game needs to change genre to be "good". When in reality the person just doesn't like that genre. Or the naive idea that certain genres have "universal appeal" when that's not true. Then the weird repulsion people have to emulation. Despite console companies using emulation all the time for ports of classic games. But people act as if emulation doesn't make games more accessible.

      I disagree. If the developers have the opportunity to fully utilize their vision with newer hardware, then they should do it. Too bad FF7 isn’t the original story.

      @@Mister_Don888 If better hardware allows developers to truly complete their vision then good for them. But they better hope their original vision was a good idea. Because sometimes a compromise works better than what the developers actually wanted. FF7 Remake Project reintroduces some cool scrapped ideas, but also a lot of stuff that was scrapped for good reason.

    They're making these remakes to appeal to younger gamers and older ones. I think these older titles are perfect as is, but 1 issue I see is accessibility to them. Sure you can emulate these older titles but you know these average Joes won't want to go through that hassle, they're like Caveman. I like the approach Resident Evil has taken, remaking the older titles but also releasing new ones. I don't mind the remakes having played them all, og and remake. Sorry for yapping too long. 😂

    • @Gordoniankid
      @Gordoniankid Місяць тому

      No need to apologize for yapping I'm guilty of the same thing XD. I've seen many say remakes help make older games accessible, but they don't. Resident Evil 2 Remake isn't Resident Evil 2, RE2 Remake changes almost the whole thing. Both are great games, but Resident Evil 2 only became more accessible when GOG started porting the OG RE1, RE2 and RE3 to PC recently. I've seen someone use Silent Hill 2 Remake saying that it's a great Remake, but OG Silent Hill 2 is no more accessible than it was before. I brought up in the video how Persona 3 Reload got criticism for removing mechanics and not including the P3FES (prior to the DLC anyway) or P3P content. P3P got a remaster at least, but P3 FES isn't any more accessible. I'm glad you mentioned emulation, I wish I included emulation talk in the video since it's weird how people treat it. Many like you said cant be bothered to emulate or prefer a more "authentic experience". But many ports of classic games (like the PS1 games on PS4/PS5 or Nintendo Switch Online games) are emulated. But emulation on console is a topic not many ever bring up when emulation gets bashed. Emulation makes games more accessible since you don't need the original hardware or if the game never released in your country. I played Final Fantasy V as a kid because of emulation and the fan-translation for example.

    Enjoyed your review, thank you! Unsurprisingly, V also gets way less love from the romhacking community. IV has long had Ultima. VI just got A Soldier's Contingency 2.0 like two days ago. What about V? But we are trying to turn things around with a hit lineup of V hacks this year. My channel has clips if you're interested. We also have beta builds in our V Discord. Cheers!

      The other worlds and the Airship being able to turn into a submarine. Or the crazy fact that you can navigate the whole world map on Chocobo and it's step one to getting the Eggman summon. The stuff FF5 has is crazy.
