I can't say that I know what an Arhoolie Award is, though I would have to guess that it's quite prestigious. I only recently discovered Tuba Skinny on UA-cam and became a dedicated fan. What a great bunch of musicians. It's so nice to see such wonderfully talented people keeping this classic music alive. Congratulations on your award. Keep up the good work!!!

10 years old walking to my uncles house after church in Hyde County NC, I had to pass the black Baptist church. That sound, the choir, the rhythm… I was mesmerized, transfixed. After just leaving the cornbread white plain Jane hymnals we were singing soullessly, I was forever attracted to the blues. To me, THAT was the spirit moving.

Truth be told, when Chris first came to San Antonio (1975), excited to share some of his Norteno recordings; he quickly found that our Tejano brethren, did not shared his enthusiasm.. I understand that he was told that, recordings of Los Alegres De Teran, Los Pinguinos, and so forth.. was music from "south of the border", not "Conjunto"!....Listening to above interview, One can tell that he remains perplexed. and rightfully so...Chris Strachwitz is a great and humble man. He has left a seminal documentary of Norteno Mexican Folklore for all of us to share. Thank you Chris!
