Love seeing all of the old railroad things like that too! I wish we had more trains like this to show off the incredible scenery the US has to offer

The Royal Gorge Route Railroad runs a couple of trains a day on this line depending on the season. I believe there is a local freight train that works a quarry a mile or two past where this train stops.

@@JustGetOnBoard Thanks for the reply. I only ask as when the train reached the point where it reverses there is another train visible inn the distance. Presumably the local freight you refer to.

@@updistant705 That was actually a hi-rail truck that showed up. It was sent earlier in the day to check out a potential downed wire

@@updistant705 I doubt it. From what I hear, the grade is too steep and there are already ways through and around the mountains to the north. But I would love it if the whole line could be opened again as a passenger/tourist route. I'm sure it would be one of the most scenic rides in the country, especially if you pair it with the route Amtrak uses on the California Zephyr. The Rocky Mountaineer would benefit from it I bet.

My guess is that it helps riders see all of the views of the cliffs and it make the trip more worth the price of the ticket. My other guess is that the line isn't well maintained since it's only used by a couple of trains every day.

Those sheds are for a winter village the railroad uses during the holiday season.

@JustGetOnBoard No doubt, I was only 14 at the time and was impressed. But now..🤩..AMAZINGLY BEAUTIFUL piece of the great untouched American landscape. My father and I took the Amtrak out to Colorado. Had are own personal two person compartment. The whole vacation was about trains and that part of America. We visited the and road the Silverton Telluride rail line how long to Colorado River, breathtaking views and the Georgetown Narrow Gauge Railroad as well. An amazing Unforgettable trip! That was my 8th grade graduation present

It's an old line that's for sure! I should've put the GoPro facing the opposite direction when it started going in reverse. Next time I'll do it!
