    The 70-180 looked a little less contrast-y. But it’s hard to judge from UA-cam. But for $1000 less, I’ll fix in post.

    180-600 is not too light compared to 600 mm F4. 600mm F6.3 is not great in low light situations. Although it is light and could be hand held for much longer 180-600mm offers flexibility as it is a zoom. Price is a huge plus. It’s not light and cannot be handheld for long 600mm F4 is not PF and that’s why it is not light

    Amazing lens, I went through two vI versions before finally finding a vII at a very good price so couldn’t resist and don’t think I’ll ever resell this, especially mid distance shots have such an unique look, almost brenizer like. And to all Z fellas, just snatch one used (even the vI which now goes for very low prices and is basically identical optically), it works really well with the FTZ 😊

    I used the 200mm on many ocassions and loved it. Nikon even offered it too me at nearly 50% off however by then I could already see they would be closing down in my country so I was shifting from Nikon. An affordable alternative is to get a 135mm F1.8. Sharp, faster focus and great Bokeh. However this lens will always have a sweet spot in my heart.

    The problem I've found with the cheaper gimbals is that they drill and thread the aluminum, then use steel bolts. Second, the drag adjustments are made by friction, a bolt rubbing against something inside of the mount rather than ball bearings and a clamp.

    I agree with your opinion on depth of field. Some people are quick to assume F6.3 apertures are going to have no subject separation because they compare them to kit lenses. In my opinion, once you get over 200mm there is lots of background compression and subject separation even at F8. A 600mm F4 lens just allows you to get ideal depth of field when the subject is a little further away, depth of field is fully mostly impacted by distance to subject over focal length or aperture.

    Z 600/4 TC VR S doesn’t have a phase fresnel (PF) element. Only the Z 600/6.3, Z 800/6.3 and F 500/5.6 have the PF element to reduce their weight.

It cannot be that the price difference between both lenses is almost 11.000 Euro's in the Netherlands , and this is the only reason why I have bought the Nikon Z 800 mm F6.3 I am very happy with this lens on the Nikon Z 9.The Nikon Z 800 F6.3 is light , hand holdable and the images are amazing.

    Seriously it’s down to your wants . I use the 180-600 z I find a zoom of this range will give more depending on the user abilities take home keeps and if course the camera body it’s mounted to a good result. Many people don’t accept their skill level abilities and seek to improve their photography by purchases. This is a myth that many fall into. Composition and interest are both important. A crisp photo with a sharp image is not the be all and end all. View your skill factors via the interest your photography to others ,(at this present time.)I will be honest understanding iso will help the appearance . The beauty for a new would be professional is to learn the focal length iso and the camera bodies functions. The 180-600 z is quite usable on a mono pod. I know this one tip will be ignored by many photographers. Learn your equipment and techniques. The image you take home will only be as good as the skill value of the taker .

    Thanks for the video. The problem with the z600 f63 is the price. Why buy that and not the 180-600mm f5.6~6.3? is far more flexible and equally fast. The zoom focus closer, has better magnification, and costs half. It also zooms if your subject gets closer. The advantage of the 600mm pf is just weight 1.47KG vs 1.95 KG and maybe, just maybe a little more IQ

    • @mornekombrink

    • @KurtisPape
      @KurtisPape 17 днів тому

      @@mornekombrink From the test charts I have seen it is a bit soft at 600mm. People have showed good real world results with the lens, but the examples are images with good detail, there is a difference between a detailed image and a sharp image. You can capture good bird feather detail with any lens as long as your really close and filling the frame.

    • @mornekombrink
      @mornekombrink 17 днів тому

      @KurtisPape Exactly. The lens has excellent sharpness to 400mm but after that it gets softer. To be honest it’s a very good lens for the price but it’s definitely not comparable to the 600mm PF or other professional primes.

    Interesting stuff. I guess the elephant in the room has to be the Z 180 to 600 where you get the same max f6.3 at half the price of the Z600 f6.3. I don't doubt the Z600 f6.3 will produce optically better images than the 180 to 600 set to 600 but of course you loose the flexibility that the zoom can give. Money no object I'd love to own the Z600 f4 despite its extra heft. Oh, and I prefer the longer format videos by the way 😉

      I do, nowadays the Zooms has progressed so much. It's a shame that DXO Mark is just a shadow of what it used to be. Stupid, lazy people did what they normally do and used the Mark as a be-all instead of carefully reading the review, and better rain of then, based on that, because they held them accountable and show when their offering was crap. Today we need them more than ever and they are basically out.

    • @jfphotography69
      @jfphotography69 17 днів тому

      Flexibility is what people use to justify their purchase of the 150-600mm. I have owned the Nikon 200-500mm f5.6 and 95 percent of the time have only used the 500mm long end of the lens, have used it since it was first introduced. I have also been shooting the fantastic Sigma 500mm f4 sports for five years now, with the D500, D850 and the Z9, will continue to use it for many more years to come. I have recently bought the Z 600mm f/6.3 vr s lens which was on sale for $3,800 and B&H also threw in a Nikon Arcrest II 95mm filter. The lens is fantastic, small, fast AF, tack sharp and extremely light. Photography life has done a review of the 600mm PF, and also has an MTF comparison between the Z 150-600mm and the Z 600mm PF, the Z 600mm PF is much sharper than the Z 150-600mm. There is a reason why the Z 600mm PF is more expensive. I have uploaded samples on Flickr. Since it's December/January there is not much to photograph except migratory waterfowl. All captures are hand held. flic.kr/p/2qFj4mn flic.kr/p/2qEVd1f flic.kr/p/2qGE9hc flic.kr/p/2qENTVy flic.kr/p/2qD62cr

      I have both of these lenses, and the difference between the Z 600 PF and the Z 180-600 is enormous. If money was no object, I would still buy the Z 600 PF first over both the Z 180-600 and Z 600 f4 TC. There is no doubt the Z 600 f4 TC will produce the best IQ at 600mm, and with the internal TC engaged it is better than the Z 800 PF. But, it is quite a heavy, cumbersome, difficult lens to travel/carry/use compared to the Z 600 PF (and Z 800 PF). If you can monetize, well, you get what you have to get to make money. But for the non-monetize crowd, the Z 600 f4 TC is a hard pill to swallow in every regard even on sale for $1500 off. IMHO, super tele zooms are good learning tools but overrated in the long run. Yes, you do have more flexibility, and will get more shots per outing. But I don't want to come back with any old shots; I got hard drives full of those. I want to come back with great shots, and I am sorry but the Z 180-600 is not often going to get you great shots let alone exceptional shots. That is who the PF lenses are for. I want to increase my chances for great and exceptional shots, but I don't monetize my hobby and I am unwilling to sell my kidneys to get the pro lenses. I have all the PF's (300, 500, 600, 800), and I am still in possession of both of my kidneys.

    Did you find the 70-200 to be noise or scratchy sounding when you turned the zoom ring? That was my only issue with the lens and I returned my lens thinking it was an error for “S” line lens. Hopefully, the exchanged lens will be better in this area for a $2K Pro lens. My other “S” lenses don’t have this issue. In your photos I found the 70-200 to have much richer color and better detail as you pointed out.

    Great Video....Thank you for posting. Nikon Shooter for many years, making the switch to Mirrorless recently......My DSLR bodies were D4's with lot's of life left in them so I dipped my toes into the Z system with Z6ii and FTZ converter....Essentially trying to determine if I wanted to go Z or stay D4......The Z6ii was ok and to be fair, not a fair comparison to D Pro body. However, when I brought home my first native Z lens (14-24mm f2.8), it really brought the Z6ii to life and was measurably better than my F14-24mm with a FTZ. At that moment, I decided to commit to the Z eco system..I added the Z8 and was thrilled when paired with the Z Holy Trinity lenses. But I found that the Z6ii now felt inferior to the Z8 "No Surprise" So I just kept grabbing my Z8....The menu's, button placements etc were very different not to mention the focus system. It became difficult to shoot the pair in tandem with how different they were to shoot. When the Z6iii launched, it wasn't even on my radar....However, after seeing it close up, looking at the menu's and combined with the AF, I decided that I both wanted and needed the Z6iii. It's Not a Z8, but it pairs well with the Z8 and the shooting experience is similar..... Now I can choose the body based on need rather than just ignoring the Z6ii. If you shoot them in tandem, you can dial them in fairly close so the differences are much less apparent. Had I owned only the Z6ii, the decision to upgrade would have been more difficult. After spending time with the Z6iii, the upgrade of the sensor, AFS, control buttons and menu system have confirmed my post purchase decision was the right one. If you have aspirations and a budget beyond casual shooting the Z6iii should be on your shopping list.

    I had to turn off image review on my Z6ii to cure the black out. No problems since so that may solve that problem for you. Nikon can and does design its' own sensors but can't find if they took a bog standard Sony sensor or cooked their own. The Sony fab is a separate company from the camera division so I wouldn't assume sensors are shared (at least with the Z bodies - exception being the Z50 series)

    The 70 to 180 is made by Tamron, its the first version whereas the Sony version is a second version and far superior to the Nikon one, Nikon won't allow Tamron to produce the second version as it would kill sales of the 70 to 200. The Tamron is a stunning lens on the Sony and the 20mm shortage really is not making a large difference but the weight difference is very handy. I would use the sony to Nikon adapter but it still hunts a little and need another firmware up date, at that point I would buy the Sony Tamron version two then as its half weight and half price.

      Very good point. I think it was compared to the D5 & D6, which as you'll know are, 20.8mp. I feel another short video coming. Thank you

      @seancameronphotographic3740 I suspect that a sensor having a pixel density less than half that of the Z8/9 will likely yield less noise at equivalent ISO's. Having said that they are also comparing it against the Z8/9's fully stacked sensor for which the general consensus is that dynamic range is likely to be slightly inferior. Perhaps the more advanced Expeed 7 processor in the Z8/9 negates that to a point but even if the D5 & D6 produced less noise the noise that is present would be more obvious after cropping in on that lower resolution sensor too. It's like comparing apples to oranges ultimately.

      Having 20 MP is not half the resolution in comparison to 40 MP. 40 MP is about 40% more resolution. This is related to the geometry. Horizontal pixels x 1,4 times vertical pixels x 1,4 eqals two times the pixels, achieved through 40% more resolution. A sensor with half the resolution would have 10 MP.

      The D850 would be the logical comparison
