counter arcing is done the first 6 to 8 months with a snaffle bit,when a horse is in the bridle it shouldn't be necessary.bumping his mouth is to the horse,agitation.it looks like these people are serving their horses tails,or putting weights on them.also,spurs are not necessary for a good horseman to get the job done.these reining horses these days are strictly mechanical,and don't seem to be mentally developed.and when you see one you've seen them all.horses necks have different angles from horse to horse,so what's with making them all work with their heads on the ground?the western pleasure crowd has contaminated everything.c.f.

I think he can do both for a while.. He has a year of basic foundational dressage training. He spent 4 months with a saddle bred trainer who uses dressage techniques. He just came home to continue dressage training. He wiil be shown 3-gaited show pleasure for 1 season and then remain a dressage horse. I think they can compliment each other. He can trot with his head up when asked and then walk/trot long and low with the best of them. Dressage is his main career. His tail is natural.

why did you take him out of dressage training to go into Saddleseat training?? are you trying to sell him and think he'll sell better as a show horse?? that is sad..I am looking for an ASB that could be a REAL dressage horse. ...

Thanks for the comments. Sam is being trained for Saddleseat riding discipline where horses are to pick their feet up like fancy carriage horses. He has loose, fur covered (for comfort) leather straps around each front ankle. They are connected by a rubber band (tubbing) like gym class bands. (No chains). The bans give him some resistance to warm up with and help build his shoulder & leg muscle mass so he has the ability to pick his feet up more. He is only warmed up in them.

Hi...I'm afraid I don't know much about Saddlebreds and found your stream thanks to your Totilas video. But, I am curious if you could tell me why Sammy has a chain connecting his front hooves in the beginning parts of the video? What is it supposed to encourage (or discourage)? Thank you!

the horses belonged to Clay Maier, from the KY Park, Clay has performed his own show with theses awesome horses for a number of yrs. It was a pleasure have the use of these two great horses. Dan James p/s thank you for posting the video
