Any 60-130 times available on this set up?
The SMG with a tune is much faster than stock. Close to the DCT.
@@destruxandexploze2552 lol it is absolutely not even close to as fast
@@jdoggsgarage4494 Have you seen the videos of the SMG tuned?
@@destruxandexploze2552 dct requires several orders of magnitude less time to fully complete the shift than smg, smg can physically complete the shift in around 80ms, but the torque reduction required to keep the clutch in one piece is around 2-3x that long. The DCT can physically complete the shift and apply full power in less than 10ms with out damaging anything. Not to mention overall drivability is about 1000x better with dct than smg, tuned or not. I had several different tunes in my smg, none were noticeably faster or better than the standard "euro" firmware.
Honestly with an SMG tune for faster shifts it’s probably close to a DCT.
It’s so trippy hearing a DCT from an E60 M5 😂
Great video. Great inspiration 👍
Why a DCT instead of a Tremec T56 Magnum or similar?
@@philspaghet because they all feel terrible compared to the s2000 transmission, it's difficult to get one that will shift at 9500 rpm and the gearing doesn't suit the s2000 engine very well
Shame we're in different countries bro. Could have had a smooth off!
Where have you been all my life?
Nice!! From Brazil
Can the car pass the emissions test with maxxecu? I have heard somewhere that car with aftermarket ecu solutions can’t pass them thus can’t be registered.
@@Shari_Tejp it can't pass if they do an obd2 emissions test.
@@jdoggsgarage4494I’m Germany they do it here. I mean i can always call my guy to pass it regardless, but i would really like to go oem route if possible. There is a guy on youtube who’s posting shorts lately claiming he uses oem ecu and tcu, but he gives some sketchy vibes and his videos are not looking promising
Fester dct but no emotion
You can make the DCT shift like SMG if you really want to 🤣 or even if you don't
Check out my progress on stock ECU e60 shifter and stock DCT transmission 👍
@@Dan-gerous-Bikes what are you using to control it?
I had to make my own controller with 3 can bus ,Lin bus and built in accelerometer. It's working like factory now. @@jdoggsgarage4494
Did it a month ago but you are legendary 🎉
@@Dan-gerous-Bikes I've had mine running almost a year. I've put about 10k miles on it. This video was done on a customers car. 👍
@@jdoggsgarage4494I know bro. I've been watching. Someone set me the challenge 4 months ago saying it couldn't be done on stock. Original E60 shifter working perfectly too
@@Dan-gerous-Bikes I'm using the stock smg shifter as well, but what are you using to control the dct? if its easier shoot me a message on IG.. same name over there.
Never really understood why people consider the things that make the SMG a terrible gearbox “character”. Props to the guys dct swapping S85 and S54 engines and giving them the opportunity to use a gearbox that’ll bring the most performance out of them
Where did you get the adapter plates for dct?
s85 uses all s65 dct stuff, no adapter plate needed.
Vaping at the end but still glorious V10 noises ❤
@@Weihrauch88 haha yeah, old BMW problems 🤦
this deserves a subscribe man this is my kind of content
so happy for you man keeping this car closer to the present day!
Is the rumor true that smgs are harmed by using auto later on? because i know e46s owners allways slap it into manual haha great job
Im glad your dct swapping it but have you considered building the smg for more tourque and power considering this adds to the character. Btw i beleive an smg swap is the way especially if you build the trans slightly to withstand the m5s power reliably (420 hp conpared to 507 and tq m3:400 Nm m5:520 nm considering tq is what kills trans and engines
@@usernameisrequired no. It's never about the power handling of the SMG. Is that it's awful to drive
@@jdoggsgarage4494 yeah I bet it does suck after a while what did you do to the dct to make it withstand more power?
@@usernameisrequired you don't really need to do much. With custom firmware it can hold 700ft/lbs. For a standard s85 nothing special needs to be done. My s2000 makes 609hp 500ft/lbs on a stock 335 dct transmission
@@jdoggsgarage4494 oh wow 335 dct?
@@usernameisrequired the internals of all the dct transmissions are the same
Great work 😮😊
These m5 fairly reliable? Like what’s the must do’s??
they arent too bad, its just expensive because many of the parts are only used for this engine. Rod bearings and the vanos oil pump are the only common things that are beyond any other car. The throttle actuator gears wear out, but those are cheap and easy to change. It really helps if you can do some of this work yourself. It's time consuming (read.. expensive) to have all that done in a shop.
Everyone also calls this engine as BMWs most unreliable engine, and thats coming from those guys who drive 1-2km (around a mile) and then proceed to floor it right after - they forget that they have 10w60 oil as thick as honey in it and then they complain their rod bearings only lasted 10000km, its mostly the owners fault if the car has those issues :)
Great work. I know it's not easy 😮
Wow that’s super dope, what TCU did you use?
Maxxecu controlling the engine and transmission
@@jdoggsgarage4494great content man, would you bother to do a proper video brakedown of the build? Can you tell me how much does it cost, just the ecu side of things and wiring harnesses? Without the cost of a dct
The launch control, didn't make any damages ? ( Sorry for the bad englis )
No it doesn't hurt anything, but the clutch can only do 1 or 2, then it has to cool down or it will slip. I have since swapped to Dct transmission so I don't have to worry.
Hey Jdogg. Other than the the DCT. What is the parts list needed. Do you sell the MaxxECU?
Probably easier to message me on Instagram. Same name there. But you'll need the s65 dct flywheel, the driveshaft needs to be lengthened, the maxxecu and a transmission cooler. The factory SMG cooler won't work with the dct. Ideally you'd want to change to an e90 rear diff. The e60 gear is a bit short with the dct.
That’s awesome hadn’t seen a Dct retrofit on an E60 much less an M5 😮
Check my Instagram - same name - for more videos
Thats so awesome! I just finished my dct s2000 And Im looking for a push in the right direction. Would You have a basemap for the gearbox or a sreenshot of some of the gearbox fields? Thankyou in advance

Your check engine light is on.
Thanks for the heads up after 2 years I hadn't noticed.
@jdoggsgarage4494 have you managed to get a reading on the code?
@@ubiased23 it's on because the maxxecu does not communicate with the stock gauge cluster. That has long since been replaced with an Aim digital display
@@jdoggsgarage4494 nice. Keep up the good work.
Which particular maxxecu is this? Because there are a couple on there website street, pro, etc Which one would work And the ecu is for just the engine or both tranny and engine?
The pro is required for the m5. It runs the engine and transmission
Thank you so much for responding🫡🫶🏻 Finallyso many confusions are clear
What’s up guys I’m currently looking to do the day swap in my s2000 but people are trying to talk me into it being it vibrates to much and doesn’t last in the s2k! Can you tell me how your experience is ?

Just fpund your channel from your replies on seems legit. Wondering which model maxx ecu you are using to control dct? What parts are needed to swap in a dct? Im going with a bmw e92 chassis with an lsx swap and really want to use dct
Look me up on Instagram, easier to message there. It's the same name. For e92 with LS swap you can use the maxxecu race/LS kit for this swap
Does it shift mean like the smg3
I have another video that shows comparison between SMG and Dct
Can I pay you to do a swap for me I will buy all the things you need
So what ecu are you running to make this possible?
MaxxECU
@@jdoggsgarage4494 oh so it runs everything, cool. Would it work with AP1’s after being converted to FBW? And did you have to make any modifications to the transmission tunnel?
@@karry8997 yeah it'll work fine in an ap1, converting to drive by wire is pretty simple. You do have to add some clearance to the tunnel but no cutting is required. Maxxecu controls everything
Must have more. More details. More noises. More dct less granny shifting smg.
Check out my Instagram. Same name. There are a couple more there
Is that possible on the m6 e63 as well?
Yes
@@jdoggsgarage4494 what is required to get this job done ? Is it fully functional swap or still needs tweaking ?
@@Six9builds I'd say it's good to go. There are a couple aspects of the tuning side I want to improve but even if I dont, it's still 1000x better than the SMG was as far as drivability
Which DCTs would work for the swap sir? E9X M3’s or F10 M5’s or F80 M3?
E90 m3 stuff bolts right up
only e92/e90 m3 s dct can swap to s85 because of bolt places
Thank you so much for the informations Hopefully I am able to do the build this summer and share it on the youtube🤞🏻
@@IAK_M5 no problem :) but you need too much money to swap it. i know one guy from german he can fix all the problems on ecu and tcu on s85 dct swap but it cots 4-5k euro :I also dct e92 gearbox isnot cheap so you''ll need like 10-14k for it . goodluck
@@Mamasheni5858 Yes I know that guy too. I have done all the research. Money ain't the issue if its doable and thats the only way you get to make a CSL m5 10f1.

Please run a gtr i want to see how a e60 dct holds up. (Im getting a e60 and doing a dct swap) also if you have any recommendations or suggestions i would love the advice.
My suggestion with any experience is have a lot of money to make it possible lol

🤑🤑🤑
as shit as smg could be at times ive never been in a car that shifts harder than an e60 m5 in s6 the ferocity of the shifts is something that wont ever be replicated.
Do you floor it and then click the downshift to initiate kickdown? Or since its in auto D mode all needed is the wot? Pretty neet 7 to 3 And if in manual mode does kickdown work if you fully click the throttle pedal down and down shift with either paddle or shifter after? Last question if you are going 45 mph(not 60mph like this video) will it kick down 7 to 2nd? Congrats
You can do it either way. This was in full auto mode, so just floor it. We do have a "manual kickdown" activated, so in manual mode you can floor it and then hit downshift, it will go down to the lowest gear instead of one by one.
the m3 of this era (e9x platform) had lower tourque so for merging if you put your foot all the way down and hold the left (downshift) paddle it goes to the lowest possible gear with some space to not over rev e.g wont put you to the very top of 2nd it will put you high mid 3rd like where the peak touruqe is at
