Shop Talk With Dan The Man
Canada
Приєднався 11 сер 2017
The goal of this channel is not to overwhelm anyone with Facts on tools or benchmarks in performances between tool brands. The idea with setting up my channel is to show different types of tools in a shop and the uses they would have. Starting off in Carpentry can be overwhelming to anyone. What to buy and what you're doing for a project. Ridgid is the brand I use mostly, so most all my videos will be hands on reviews. I'm not a professional by any means in this area. All I would like to do is help anyone thats looking into a tool to see how it works and how it would make your shop function better. No matter the size of your shop you can always enjoy woodworking.

RENOVATIONS- STRUCTURAL (PART 3 OF 3) #woodworking #renovation #rennovation
#woodworking #renovation #rennovation During this video me and a special guest chat about structural renovations. What are "Structural Renovations"? Watch this video to find out more. About Me:
Hello, my name is Dan Shannon. I grew up in a small town in New Brunswick, Canada. At a young age, I started working with tools. One of my favourite projects was using a scroll saw to make an old fashioned sleigh ornament in grade 8. As an adult I dove back into my love for woodworking. I’m married with two precious little girls, and I do my own renovations on the house. Also, I like to build my daughters and my wife useful keepsakes out of wood in the shop. I started this UA-cam channel in March of 2023 because I wanted to share the knowledge I had over the years working with tools, as well as sharing the quality of rigid pro grade tools and their service agreement. I’m not a professional by any stretch and I don’t claim to be. I would just like to help those who want to start a shop like I did. I really enjoy helping people especially with shop related topics. so whether you’re a professional or beginner we can all learn from each other out in the shop. Thanks for watching my videos and your support. I greatly appreciate it.

Did they stop making this? These don't seem to be widely available.
@@doctorbear4505 At my local Home Depot they still stock a fair amount. I know I had to order in tools in the past because of low or no stock inventory. Maybe check your local store to see if they can order it in. Hope that helps. 😊Dan
Been looking for brush cutter attachments for this model. Any idea which if any can be used with this for light brush cut use? Thanks!
@AstroBay, no attachments that I know of. The users manual says, no blade attachments are to be used with this trimmer! I think it’s powerful enough, but long term, it may burn out the motor prematurely. I’ve only used gas trimmers in the past for this type of application. Just my thoughts. 😊Dan
Looks like you guys were having a fun conversation.
Talking Shop is always fun ☺. Hope things are well RidgidRon. 🙂Dan
@@ShopTalkWithDanTheMan all is good my friend
Got a question about the Rigid weedeater! This has happened a few times after using my weedeater for an hour or so. It will quit like for 5 seconds and then it I can restart it and it will run for about 10 seconds and quit again. Grrrr... Batteries check out fine. I am wondering if it is due to the weedeater getting too hot! Have you ever had any problems with your rigid weedeater? . Aggravating.... IT has LSA but unless it's ran for awhile it won't do it.
I have not encountered that issue on my weedeater whatsoever. Are you using speed one or speed two? Either way it shouldn’t matter. Check the base of the weedeater There could be grass buildup on the head which would turn would cause stress to your motor. If there is a bunch of grass buildup, it could be a safety thing for the weed eater not to keep running to burn the motor out. Let me know how you make out with your issue. 😊Dan

The new one is a downgrade. It has a 8.5 amp motor. The one you have is better because it has the 10 amp motor. More powerful than the new one.

Great video... have you ever thought about putting a block from like a 4x4 post or something to take up that gap/space between the log and the hydralic? You will be splitting waaay faster and it will completely split the wood.

I own 2 of these and its almost impossible to remove the spool from the outer drum with lock, unlock markings, if one side of twine breaks inside. If you manage to get it off with massive amounts of wrestling, its a lot harder trying to get it back on and locked. Anyone have a solution...
@@carterlucyk1971 mines never given any issue, however, mines still in the “Newer stage”. Maybe after a few years of use it will be harder to manage. If this is a defective product hopefully Ridgid will address it. Did you bring it to a repair shop under the LSA warranty? I’d be interested in hearing more on Ridgids help for you. 😊Dan
I will be soon. The 2 I have are brand new and maybe 15 to 20 minutes use on them.
Great video Dan. One of the best reviews of this saw I have found!
Thanks!! 😊 Dan
Looks like a lot of bang for the buck in that green brand for the home owner/DIYer if they don’t overdrive them. Have you found any capability limitations for typical shop/house stuff vs a Ridgid or Milwaukee or is it mostly power/speed and vibrations? That saw looks like it borrowed a few pieces from the Gen 5X Ridgid I had years ago. Nice video. Oh…what bar is on the chainsaw in the background?
@@kenc9162 I’ve found that Ryobi is perfect price/tool for the average homeowner doing basic DIYer stuff. Long term if you push them they don’t last long. You can tell based on price/build quality Ridgid and Milwaukee are built better, but that comes with price! Every tool has its place depending on your budget or job you’re doing. If you hang a shelf once a year, Ridgid and Milwaukee are over kill. At the end of the day I always say, no matter the tool brand just get out in your shop and have fun!! As for the bar, it’s a 16” Oregon with an Oregon chain. Thanks for watching. Check out my video interview on what tool brand is best. How long did it take you to build the shelves

Dan, Do you have the older model Ridgid Radio of the same size? It so. How does it compare to the older model radio of that same size?
Ron, I do not have the older Gen radio, but my dad does. The sound quality is better on this one and I believe my dad’s radio doesn’t have the USB charging port. 😊Dan
@@ShopTalkWithDanTheMan I was more concerned about sound quality. The sound quality on the older is mediocre at badt but it works
@@RidgidRon according to Ridgid at six times the performance in base and clarity! It’s definitely better. I guess look at it this way, worst case you can bring it back to the store if it doesn’t suit your needs in quality. Hope that helps. 😊Dan
@@ShopTalkWithDanTheMan the one I have will be good
I just bought the Ridgid 175w inverter and it works great

Hi Can use these with DeWalt impact or drill machines
It says on the back of the case, “Do not use with POWER TOOLS”. Thats their recommendation. Maybe a high impact driver is too much torque for the build quality of these sockets, who knows. I’m guessing a standard drill would be fine but as stated by Stanley themselves, No Power tools! Hope that helps. 😊Dan
Thank you, my friend. This made things very simple.

What happens if the string breaks off inside the head, how do you get it out so you can respool the thing?
@@miamicyclist01 that’s no problem to fix. Just twist the head off from the lock position to the unlock position. The head unit will come apart. There’s a spring in the center. Just remove your twine and reassemble the head. If you’re not sure how it came apart you can check the users manual or online for a diagram. Once reassembled, you can follow the video to re-spool your head. Hope that helps answer your question. 😊Dan
@@ShopTalkWithDanTheMan what do you do is the string broke off inside and it won’t let you turn it to the unlocked position?
@@gray395 i’ve never had that happen before. Try pushing the head down and twisting at the same time see if that works. Also try pushing a small nail in the holes on either side incase there’s debris. Good luck! 😊Dan

FYI. This does not have the LSA that Ridgid offers with their power tools. This only carries 5Yrs of warranty.
Thanks Pete for your comment. I have personally registered this tool for the LSA online and Ridgid approved it. There website also says this tool has an LSA in the description for this saw. Here is the online description:RIDGID introduces the 10 -inch Pro Jobsite Table Saw with Stand. This heavy duty saw is equipped with a 5000 RPM motor. It features an updated portable folding stand that provides a single-point release for simple 1-step setup and great jobsite portability. Users can easily complete jobs wit this saw's easy-to-use onboard storage for the miter gauge, etra blades, rip fence, and other accessories. Backed by the Industry's Only Lifetime Service Agreement, this saw includes a 10 -inch blade, a blade guard assembly, a portable folding stand, and an operator's manual. So as you can see it has the LSA. Thanks 😊 Dan.
