I remember when booster boxes were $30-$50 when pokemon first came out. And you were guaranteed to get 80-90% of the set in one box

I was looking for a video like this! I think the $30 limit is a good Idea, but does that include shipping?

How does paying for shipping work? That's one thing that's always confused me. I understand factoring the cost of shipping into what the customer is being charged, but not how that correlates to when you actually have to pay for the shipping label. Also, your content has been so helpful!

Opening random packs in hope of pulling high value cards is by definition gambling and if you are selling them you are facilitating gambling. Let’s be real, tcg have eluded regulation but if we are consistent in our interpretation of the law, they should be treated like other games of chance where money is on the line

sourcing jap cards without cracking open packs and boxes seems to be my issue, finding them low enought to make a profit

well, when ppl got boster boxes from japan at 40$ and resell it at 80, japanese are not silly so they did the same

Maybe there are more hits and less bulk in the Japanese booster boxes?

Think about this another way. An English booster box msrp is $135ish I think. You can get deals and get it a little lower. But you get about the same amount of hits as a Japanese box. The Japanese cards are better quality. I personally like them better than English as not only are they more consistent but they’re overall texture and holo patterns are always better. Now that more people are aware of them I doubt we’ll ever see the old msrp prices again. The $180 Pokémon 151 boxes too me are way too high but that’s due I think to massive hype for this set and just really strong demand. I think most booster boxes will be lower going forward especially if chase card prices cool down. Vstar universe was about $110 recently. It makes sense. It’s cheaper than a crown zenith booster box and you get better pulls. It’s no wonder there is high demand.

Any tips on shipping out packs like these? 50-100 cards packs? I find that shipping cuts into profits pretty badly

Interesting video and love the analysis. The Ultra Shiny Charizard you showed went from around 65,000 to 140,000 JPY for the raw (with a peak of 235k) in the last year .. so whlst I agree with your conclusion release hype conclusion, it isnt exactly true to say you can always buy it back cheaper.

nice, yeah I was doing mystery packs that were 100% vintage cards, good way to get rid of all my old commons, I think I was selling them for 25 a pack too plus shipping.

It's very hard to start it up these day and age, as everything is so more expensive than it was just four years ago

I lived in Japan during the shutting of the borders. I could go into Pokémon centres and get booster boxes quite easily. Soon as the borders opened , everything is sold out . Remember the Japanese market is for Japan , but the demand for the Japanese cards is worldwide which the Japanese market does not cater for.

ive won multiple bids like that but they were kind enough to give it to me flipped a 39 dollar mewtwo for 200.

I’m so glad you’re back, I remember when I was first watching your video and how it got me into Japanese Pokémon cards. And with the crazy surge in Japanese popularity over the past year or so I was wishing for good content about why this was happening but all the creators were so uninformed about the Japanese market that they either answer with they don’t know enough about it or they didn’t take it seriously. And even till today most of the creators just open Japanese product cause it’s expensive but have no real insightful thoughts on why the Japanese prices are higher. I would love a video that explained the composition of a Japanese set which is usually 2 sets to 1 English set and the msrp pack price of each and why English pack price is so expensive comparatively for the same cards for worse quality.

Also if you are a player in Japan you get atleast 1 box of each set for MSRP from the pokemoncenterjapan. The only thing that sucks are the huge queues you have to wait in.

I dont know if you noticed but before the lottery system there have been drops on amazon japan shipped and sold by amazon japan that have been nuked by bots for about 3 months or so until they changed it to a lottery system. If plaza japan sold the boxes for msrp like jwc they would also lose all their inventory to some guy that set up multiple bots to buyout every box they have. As a collector that wants MSRP boxes i love that they are being sold for high prices by retailers because that means noone can really build up a postion by abusing bot accounts. I ve collected for 4 years now and i ve never missed out on a single set. I always get atleast 1 box for MSRP just because i know where to get them from. If you really just want to enjoy the hobby there are things you can do to get every set for MSRP. TLdr.: I m happy retailers mark up prices so that people can t just make thousends of dollars abusing bots.
