When i went to uic the south loop was just being built and pilsen was still sketchy and west loop didn’t exist. Oh and there was protect housing right in the middle. We had to travel for fun. It’s crazy how it’s surrounded by such amazing things now.

It’s a great area built by central and Eastern Europeans. Became Hispanic, and now becoming gentrified. Boo hoo. That’s the market at work. Somehow it was ok when the neighborhood went to crap and the European settlers left, but now, it’s not. Seems a bit…..what’s that word….oh yea, hypocritical.

There are parks inside the loop as well. Dearborn park. Roosevelt park. DeAngelo park. Printers square. The cute River walk from Polk to Harrison. Pritzker park. Plus the amazing river walk, that’s a park in my book.

This is a racist community. If you’re not latino, you’re labeled as gratification resident and harassed by locals to leave. It’s not a welcoming community if you are not latino. Communities such as Pilsen continue to create the racial segregation that plagues the city.

Excellent video. I am a Lakeview East resident and I absolutely love it. it feels like two completely different worlds though Lakeview East and West. Once you get about a block west of the stadium feels much more residential and suburban. Lakeview East feels like more of a vibrant city neighborhood. that stretch of Broadway from Addison to Diversy is probably my favorite street in Chicago. it’s also kind of jarring how desolate it gets on Clark and Halsted between Belmont and Diversy. Hopefully they can livin it up a bit more.

I have come to the realization that the opening bit erroneously states that author L. Frank Baum lived in Lincoln Park when in fact he lived in Humboldt Park. However, because of Oz Park, which was built in 1976, you can say he technically lives in Lincoln Park in spirit. Yeah, you know what, I definitely meant that when writing this and it totally wasn’t just an error. -Oliver

I appreciate the comment, but Chicago was actually home to the Ojibwe, Odawa, and Potawatomi nations, among many other tribes! The Aztec (and Mayan) influence in a lot of the the murals in Pilsen honor the original occupants of the land that is now Mexico. Hope this clears it up :)
