Budget solution DIY NAS | too many drives? consolidate your data
Content creators like ourselves typically have too many drives sitting around. I go over the solution I chose for this problem. A DIY NAS.
Follow the serverbuilds.net forums, buy unraid, and free up some space.
If that website doesn't answer questions, I can try to answer anything.
I'm no expert in this field, but I got the job done for what I need of it.

How to use Transcription tools to edit Client Work | Davinci Resolve 18.6

I have slightly modified this workflow. I looked more into the syncbin feature of the cut page. Im documenting it here so that I don't forget. First, sync your cam angles for the sync bin. Then after trimming via transcription, I flattened (I guess you could not make a multicam in the first place?) the timeline. When you flatten it, it links back up with the synced clips. SMOOTH Transition Tutorial | Advanced Concept | Davinci Resolve Fusion

    • @joshualum
      @joshualum 3 місяці тому

      Yeah. You're not wrong. Actually what a lot of hobbyists do is 'shuck' the external drives. They take out the drive from the enclosure and put that in the server. Yeah I don't have 3 copies, but I can rebuild anything that fails. On the millennial budget, that'll do 😬

    • @joshualum
      @joshualum 3 місяці тому

      I haven't found exact ratings for mine, but from what I've seen of that line of products, is that they're enterprise grade. Apparently it's common for these to be used in servers? From what I've gathered at least. WD tends to overcharge. Their audience are general public consumers. I don't know for sure, but I dont think huge data hubs are using WD for their storage. I think I bought mine under recommendation from serverbuilds.net.

      Based on the quick screenshot it looked to be these - Seagate Constellation ES.3 Enterprise 4TB SATA - there was a seller on eBay that had at least 200+ of these, around May 14th or so, that he was just auctioning off starting at $6.99. Unless you where actively searching for 4TB drives at that time I have no clue how you would find them. I got 3 total, 6.99, 8.03, and 10.59. I wouldn't expect to find those kinds of prices regularly, but $5/TB is pretty common if you aren't too picky.

    What do you mean when you said there are no adapters for L-Mount? There are adapters that can adapt DSLR (EF in particular) and Vintage lenses. I personally own sigma MC-21 for my S5. Unless, you're looking for a specific adapter to Sony E mount? But I have not heard adapters for mirrorless to mirrorless systems before.

    • @joshualum

      You're right. Perhaps I was unclear. For my context, having E-mount glass, there are no adapters to go from E to L. And as far as my research tells me, there will never be, due to flange distance being too short.

    I have a Sony FS5 and now I changed to the FX30. I think you are right in everything you are saying, I was thinking in the BMCC 6k but at the end I bought the FX30. my major reason was the dynamics of movement and focus. I think the BMCC 6k is great with a crew, or at least a focus puller. I know that you can shoot solo with it but I feel its harder and limited in many kinds of shooting. That's why I bought the FX30, mainly because of autofocus and the freedom of movements that I can get. I only shoot solo. But if I would have a dedicated crew for focus puller, I certainly will choose the BMCC 6k. My FS5 is great for many kinds of shooting, but for moments that I needed more "speed" and freedom of movement, the FS5 it's a hassle for more dynamic shootings.

      I think you made the right choice. Cover your basis first. The value to price of that camera is amazing. With the random non-narrative work I get, I would still choose the A7iv if I owned the bmcc. Some clients don't deserve or care for the image quality of BRAW. I want the bmcc for spec work. I'm excited, and will have to try it all solo haha.

      @@joshualum where can I get something like that? I like that kind of shoot. I wanna use it for something. I thought all footage gotten from a website suppose to have a name.

      @@Gee_Metro_Art this is footage I took. There is no name for this. You can look for footage similar on any random stock footage site.

    Is this RSMB plugin free? Or can you do it without that plugin?

      You can do it without the plugin. It just helps smooth things out. It's not free.
