Exploring the world of fishing in roadside ditches and small ponds, mostly on ultralight tackle.
Occasionally I have been known to venture forth into the world of inshore saltwater fishing as well.
It is all about having fun and learning.
Basically my game is using google maps to locate fishing spots, going to them and seeing if I can lift some fish out of their depths by invoking elemental energies and of course a plethora of plastic lures.
Catch and release... this is the way.

Panzilla...the Bluegill that ate Tokyo
An unsuspecting spot to find a hawg bluegill like Panzilla! Fished there for a few hours and really got surprised at the end of the day by this beauty of a bluegill. Much respect to this old fish. Party on Panzilla.

Fishing the Forbidden Zone...Kistler Hunt Series BFS rod
Переглядів 2039 годин тому
Got kicked out of this place a while back. It`s such a cool spot I couldn`t stand it and had to go back for a stealth recon mission. Made it in and out in one piece! Fished the Kistler 7 ft BFS rod with a Tsurinoya Genius reel and a 3/32 oz Storm 360 gt paddle tail. Effective setup!
Flyrod on the pond, late evening
Переглядів 589 годин тому
I was out fishing a roadside pond with some senkos and wasn`t getting bit at all. I noticed some fish hitting something on the surface repeatedly so I broke out the 3 wt flyrod and hooked a few before the sun went down.
Field Test...Yum Swimm`n Dinger...bonus Snapper siting
Переглядів 10214 годин тому
Yum Swimm`n Dinger is a nice alternative to the Senko. The thing that makes it unique is that big floppy donkey tail. It`s really great in shallow water where you can twitch it along slowly and that tail action gets the attention of bass. Also works like a Senko with a slow wobbly drop weightless on wacky or Texas rig.

Fun day cruising around town fishing some ponds I found on Google maps.
Sunday afternoon with special guest Luke Tailwalker

Sunday afternoon and I hit a couple of local ponds looking for bass. Found a couple of nice ones and got to meet Luke Tailwalker up close and personal lol.
Pickerel Party...a compilation video
Переглядів 69День тому
Rounded up some old footage of the glorious chain pickerel in action. Pickerel get a lot of hate in the world of fishing for various reasons, but I think they are wicked cool and absolutely beautiful!
Scooby snacks for bass?...bonus pizza pickup
Переглядів 10714 днів тому
Yeah I`m pretty sure the Yamamoto senko is just a Scooby Snack for bass. I was fishing for 2 hours with a Nikko craw and spinner bait and not one single bite! I switched to a 5 inch Senko and blammo on the first cast. Green pumpkin magic is no joke.
Sweet 16...A honker compilation
Переглядів 32421 день тому
Pieced together some random footage of some of the honkers that I caught locally. A few different species, including a crappie and a catfish but mostly bass. 16 total hence the name lol
Panfish Party Pond Sept 2024
Переглядів 11921 день тому
Found this little pond on Google maps and was hoping for some bass action. I was pleased to find some hefty little panfish instead. So I switched gears and broke out the ultralight and hooked into some nice little fighters.
September Pond hopping...bonus snake encounter
Переглядів 26221 день тому
This is just a combo of 2 days pond hopping around town. A variety of rigs were used including the ultralight and the baitcaster. Even ran into a beautiful kingsnake that wasn`t too happy about being woken up from his nap lol.
New Rod virgin stink removal...bonus drainpipe bass
Переглядів 5921 день тому
Picked up a new rod and reel on sale and had to get that virgin stink removed as quickly as possible. 7 ft St. Croix Triumph med action with a Shimano Miravel 2500 reel. I really like the Triumph series of rods from St. Croix. You can find them on sale from about 80 to 100 bux. Anyway, the virgin stink removal was a success!

Bass Pro `Micro Lite glass` casting rod field test
Переглядів 776Місяць тому
Since the 3 foot baitcaster bit the dust I was looking for another short midget sized rod to keep handy for brush covered pond banks. Enter the Bass pro micro lite glass. A 4 ft 10 glass rod with a short pistol grip and a floppy noodle action. Only $24.99! It`s considered an ultralight but I put a standard sized reel on it. A Quantum Throttle 100. 10 lb mono and a 1/8th jig, So far I`m very ple...

I`m not in the habit of naming my rods except in special cases like the 3 foot baitcaster. It was unique enough to warrant a name of epic proportions. Enter Dr. Loveless! Anyone that remembers Dr. Loveless the evil mastermind villain from the Wild Wild West tv series in real time, congrats, you are old! lol (1965-1969) He had a good run as a fishing rod for a few weeks, caught multiple bass ove...

World`s smallest bluegill challenge
Wow nice catches ! Great video
Doc, you should buy one of those big houses as a spare so you can just sit outside and fish that pond all day. Some good looking bass in there and a beautiful spot. “ The Forbidden Zone” aka “”The Honker Hole”. Great outing. Glad to see the backlash doesn’t even slow you down now. Lunker at the end was awesome. Great peaceful and productive outing.👍
Nice one!
Wow, look at you, whipping out the fly rod, so proud of you!! Beautiful pond too, looks like a wonderful evening for top water action. Leave the popper on the water for a split second longer and then strip set the hook instead of lifting the rod. Hopefully that will get you more fish on the fly. :D
Thanks man! I appreciate any advice! Totally self taught and I think I developed some bad habits. I have a few fly fishing rigs this is a 3 wt 7 ft. I have a 2 wt a 4wt and a 5 wt. The 3 is my favorite. I need more practice and to learn that bow and arrow cast
@@DrDitchpickle I'm always happy to help!! I don't think it's bad habits, I could be wrong since I don't know how to fish that way, but I believe the slack in the line comes from fishing conventional lures where you probably want to keep that slack. Fly fishing with poppers is different enough that it doesn't translate and when you fish the poppers you want little to no slack. Same with fishing streamers. There are of course exceptions.
@@DrDitchpickle Also, that's a nice selection of rods you have. Awesome!!! I personally prefer the lighter weights but when throwing large flies, sometimes my 2wt is overpowered. Yes, practice is the key and they actually sell practice rod with a fake line to practice at home. Honestly, you can make one of those yourself or practice in a grass patch.
@@DrDitchpickle Lastly, when you get hung up in the grass behind you, that may be because of your back-cast is being too low. Instead of the 10 to 2, try to lift the rod. That may be difficult to explain via comment, but on the face of a clock, try to connect 7 or 8 with 1 o'clock in a straight line. So the rod tip moves in a straight diagonally upward line. This will lead the fly to clear any grass behind you. Use the tension of the fly line on the water to load the rod, so you eliminate the need for a false cast. You are fishing so many beautiful ponds near you, hopefully you can take your fly rods for another spin, totally make a killing with plenty of top-water action, and then make another awesome video from that footage!!
And yet…. You gonna get a ticket one day, Dr.D😂😂Have fun fishing 🦯😊
Awesome title bro! I love it, always enjoy some BFS fishing, well done out there! 😂😂😂 the forbidden spots are always the best ones, awesome fishing bro!
Thanks bro. Bfs is so much fun but it can be a backlash nightmare if you lose focus for a second lol
6:40 was a nice bass. I think the last was the best
Yeah. Definitely was!
Heck yah man. What lure was that?
Storm 360 gt 3/32 oz. Killer little swim bait. Works great on ultralight
Nice catches Doc! It never gets old!
Some really nice bass. Im heading out today to try my luck. Great video
Nice action with the flyrod. I was really rooting for ya' on that last one. I wanted to see it.
Me too! Problem was knots in my leader from bad casting technique. I gotta remember to check the leaders more often. So weird how if your casting is off the line will self tie little knots on the back cast
@@DrDitchpickle That is wierd
👀👍
Nice video my friend. I’ve forgotten how much fun it is to fish with a fly rod. That bluegill was really nice.
It really is alot of fun! I need some serious practice to get better with it. Fly fishing has its own laws of physics that take time to acclimate to
Wow nice catches ! Great video too!
sup doc?🙂
Just editing some videos. I need a new laptop bad. This one is so slow
Good morning...🎉🤗👍👍
Good morning to you!
Very strange, swear i posted a comment a day ago when i watched this but i dont see it. Youre gettin 'er done again. Shouldve wiped those bass turds on the cork 😂. That was beyond a backlash, wasnt a birdnest, was a buzzard nest 😅. Possibly qualifies for Guiness book of records.
Lmao! Yeah the cork needs bass turds! Dude I ended up cutting that like off and re-spooling. The worst ones are when you snag on the back swing. Total line chaos!
Reminded of the saying "There are old mushroomers and bold mushroomers, but there are no old, bold mushroomers"
Lol. True that!😅
Those small ponds sure have some nice bass in them. I'm never lucky enough to get "come back" fish. Those buggers were hungry. Another great video
Thanks buddy! I try to seek out the ponds that kinda look like the nobody would there kinda ponds. Sometimes I have to work to get access but its usually worth it. Last few times I went to the popular spots it was skunkville ..so I go scope on Google maps. I'll tell ya some of These shopping center retention ponds are loaded
Pterodactyl. 😆Too funny, Doc. Some very nice catches on the Yum worm there. I tried the Yum Ned Dingers once and had a great day with them. The black and blue flake with the floating tail is so good bouncing along the bottom for bass and rock bass here in my local creek. That looks like a great combo for under $100. Nice! Great outing, my friend!
Thanks bro. You're right on the worms. It amazes me how effective such a simple lure can be! Yeah the bass pro rig is holding up good so far. The cork feels a bit cheap and spongey but for a beater rig its great
Dr. Ditchpickle doing what he does! Nicely done sir!
Thank you kindly!
Hit a river Doc.
I need to! Northwest river isn't too far but you kinda need a boat which i don't have
@@DrDitchpickle Ok. It would definitely been awesome to see. Keep it real brother 👍🏻
I been seeing those at Walmart but keep on passing them up. I guess I need to grab a bag or two ! Great video and catches ! I was waiting for a snapper and broken line ..lol Be safe Doc !
Givem a try! Pretty much like a regular dinger just with a floppy paddle tail. Probably work great on a Jighead
That come back bite is awesome. You caught so many nice LMB’s. I like using the yum dinger, but I haven’t tried the swim dinger. I will now. 👍👍 awesome video.
Thanks bro! Actually it works pretty well as topwater too. That tail makes a nice commotion in the water
Nice job. 💥👍
The Z man minnowZ in purple death and purple demon work really good too.
I'll check that out! I have some slam shady and electric chicken ready to go soon
@@DrDitchpickle electric chicken is hard to beat man.
Dude those diesel minnows work very good around here.
And they're super tuff! I had one last for 13 fish on the same Jighead
Man it’s hard to beat the ole tfo trout and panfish rods.
Right on. I broke 2 Dobyns sierra panfish rods during normal use! The only tfo I broke was in my electric car window. Tfo ftw!
@@DrDitchpickle heck yah
Oh no, That looks like one of my backlashes
Lol. That's why I always try to bring 2 rigs. Most backlashes I can fix but this one had to be cut out lol
Great video with nice hawgs ! A tail walker and an acrobat !! Be safe Doc !
Nothing like a good tailwalker!
A lot of that chigger shit over there. That fountain came out of no where. If you like Luke, you need to fish for some smallmouth up north. They reach for the moon.
Oh I'd love to catch some small mouth. We have them here on va but the closest is about 3 to 4 hour drive from my area.
By the look of those access points, I'd say people fish that pond. Those 2 bass were both tanks. The 5"worms are my favorite. They'll take 11" & 12" bass, but they'll also take hawgs. Nice catches & video
Thanks man! Yeah those 5 inch senkos are killer. My favorite color is green pumpkin magic.
That first area was gorgeous brother! Man those fish seem pretty aggressive, I’d love to target them, absolutely a species on my bucket list. Are they pretty common in your area?? Do you have Pike as well?
I have yet to catch one of those here in Louisiana. We have them, but only in a few waterways.
Man I know absolutely nothing about Pickerel, looks like fun though. Great video !
Wow, I've watched many of your videos but didn't realize you caught so many pickerel. They are so aggressive. Used to catch them on a simple gold rapala floater diver about 4" long. They would hit it like a torpedo. Great video
Great compilation video. Pickerel are pretty aggressive. Man you have some beautiful area to fish too. Enjoyed this video very much. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks bro! I hear pickerel are good eating but I always let them go 😊
@@DrDitchpickle I don’t keep any fish no one in my family will eat them
Great compilation video. I think those pickerel are neat, and they seem to put up a decent fight.
Right on. Thanks. Yeah they are pretty awesome but they have big sharp teeth so you do not try to lip them lol
I liked this compilation video. How big do those pickerel get? I’m surprised that was your first carp. Hook a 10 pounder and the fight is awesome. Great video Doc!!
I think the world record chain pickerel is just shy of 10 lbs. Not super huge. There's 2 other smaller pickerel species, the grass pickerel and the red fin pickerel which i have not seen in my area
What a monster!!! Man, the fishing machine delivered!! Awesome catfish too; I love catching them, even the small ones put up a great fight! Even brought the fly rod out, good job!! And congrats on the PB! :D
Lots of ponds around there. The first one looked like one of those tiny roadside ponds that's regularly overlooked and is loaded with big fish. Nice job, great video!!
I don’t fish much Texas rig, but I love the wacky rig. Some beautiful fish and some awesome ponds. Don’t see many first cast catches, but you did it at 2 ponds 👍👍
Those were some good bass man. That dang pizza looks so good right now. I’d destroy that thing if it was in front of me right now. Dang it. I guess I’m having pizza for lunch now. 😂
Dang Doc, as many fish as I've seen you catch, I didn't think the word "skunk" was in your vocabulary 😅. No 1st cast jinx for you. He $h!t on you...his last act of defiance 🤣. Catching bass, eating pizza & ice cream... you livin the life my man.
Lol. Too many fish pooping on me lately. Thanks buddy
You had me at panfish!😊 What a beauty of a spot. The green sunfish hybrids are massive there!🤯
Was that a “bleep” i heard? 😂 when you finish a day of fishing with a pizza it doesn’t get any better. Nice video!
Enjoyed watching! Man you caught a fish first cast at two different ponds, landed several other nice ones and finished with pizza and ice cream! That ain’t bad at all
Thanks 👍
Can't go wrong with those T-Rigged senkos. Nice first cast fish brother, got to love when that happens. A couple really nice locations there brother! Nice fishing
Thanks bro! Dang senkos are the deal lately for sure.
Big fan of the Crush City stuff. I don't even buy any other softbaits any more lol
