Hey my name is Justin, and I am here to show you cool products I buy and show you useful DIY projects you can do yourself that will save you money and give you that satisfaction of doing something on your own.
I am a former diesel mechanic turned stay at home dad. I spent the past 10 years repairing and modifying diesel trucks from general maintenance to giant turbos and built engines. I now stay home with my two girls and shoot videos of interesting things I do in my garage and around my house. From working on my own trucks to dragging old junk home to fix up and sell, I will bring you along for ride, and hopefully help you with your own project, but sorry, no lambos, yachts, or fluf. I also occasionally review products I buy for myself so be on the lookout for those.
So please subscribe as well as check out my social media to follow along as i get this ship sailing.

Amp Power Step Rehab and Motor Replacement!
Working on my Amp Research power steps today. This driver step had been giving me issues to I unplugged it and decided to let future Justin worry about it. Well, that was around two years ago! I finally ordered the motor but had a few more issues that just a weak electric motor, the pivots were seized! So I go through the process of testing the voltage to the motor, un-seizing the step with whatever means necessary, aligning the step so it works properly, and finally replacing that worn out motor. Not a lot of people will have this issue but if you do, I hope this helps. My amazon affiliate links as well as links for Amp Research are listed below and I do get a small commission when you use my links.

What Should I Do With My Square Body!?

I need your help! This is my 1982 Chevrolet Silverado K20 long Bed step side that was given to me when I was 15. @@rancewarschak6304 not dangerous at all. I’d say safer especially if you have little kids that could touch or fall into the bare stove. If you are worried about the wood burning you could do something with brick.
Old video but this just saved me a lot of frustration and time. Working on my 83 honda 3 wheeler thats been sitting. Used a mini torch in my hobby stuff... less than a minute going around the base of the outer casing... it loosened up and the barrel slid out. I tried to gently move the barrel each side with a flat tip screwdriver and would not budge. Soaked in PB blaster, etc. Will def keep this in the memory banks for next time... hopefully wont be a next time. Usually stuff like this does not work for me... but was amazed how quickly this worked, and had to come back in and make a post. Thanks for uploading this.

Great job! Like the tip about getting 2011 hydro boost.
Glad I could help!
I have abs light on it says front left wheel speed sensor. Changed wheel bearing with the wire nothing changed wires look good and everything so wtf is going on
Scanned and code is for the front left? Could be the pigtail on the truck side, or pinched, bad wire. Maybe a bad part? If you have a scan tool that reads live data, I'd check while driving and see what the reading is.
@HighPriority I spun the wheel while looking at the scanner no change stayed at 0.17 mph do you think that the ebcm is bad it's the only other thing I can think of. Other than the wires that are supposedly for the wheel bearing are orange and black but if I look at a diagram they should be blue w white stripe and tan or something. So I tried wiring it directly to the sensor from ebcm nothing happened. I need to get this truck on the road.
Shell T-6 full synthetic is a lot better oil than mobile one. And pure power oil filters are better you only buy once
@@AbelMolina-q3y I hope their better for $275 ! I’ve never heard of them or used one, you trust it? Magnets in it? I buy whatever 15/40’s on sale but yes I agree full syn is better to run than conventional.
In New York state. if you use a plastic conduit, the outside orange and yellow casing has to be removed form the #10 and #12 wire
@@RobertEdic-s9t good to know. After doing this job and reading comments here, I would have ran individual wire.
Just keep it and tinker with it here and there. Bring it back to reliable and hold on to it. You'll kill yourself if you get rid of it. That's my opinion. I had a 77, 80 and an 81. Wish I still had at least 1 of them. The running issues is for sure the Quadrajunk lol. I knew it had that carb right when you explained the issue. You can clean it up and dial it in and short time later it will need adjusted again. I fought one for years thinking I could make one work right. Went to a Demon, but that was kinda crap too. A good Holley or even and Edlebrock would be night and day. Dial the timing in too.
Thanks for the insight! I think that's what I'll do, replace wear items, clean it up really well, maybe get the interior back to stock, and make it reliable. Glad I'm not the only one saying there an issue wit this carb lol.
Get past the initial winter start [rain and ice storms] this might be just the ticket.
100% If you have to park outside and like you said, no freezing rain, this does great to keep the snow and frost off for sure!

@@Red-b1r8i yes it should fit. Just did some reading and it’s fitting h2 hummers that have a 6.0 as well as other 01/02 trucks with the 8.1 so you should be good

@Pressure.Jess575 I think so. My Stepdad got it for me as a Christmas gift. And dont buy the parts store brands. I got the autozone one 3 weeks ago and its already leaking the same. Buy the OEM part. It's more but its better.
how do i bleed the power steering system? and when do i know its bled?
@@jeffersongraham98 take off the rubber return hose off the hydro boost and plug the hose. Attach another hose where you took the return hose off and run to a bucket. Then full the power steering res and start the truck, turning the steering wheel and pumping the brakes occasionally checking the reservoir. Do this until your fluid coming out looks good. There may be a video on it, it’s called the hoot method I believe.
Trucker sound...keeping the tires on the ground...weigh my money by the pound.... make a Lotta noise with no sound...😮
I think that’s how the song goes! 😂
Can i put a baseboard thermostat instead of a switch 10:40
I imagine so, I've never done one so not sure how those would wire up. If you do it I'd love to hear how its working out.
Exactly how did you bleed the air out of the power steering system. I've heard very conflicting procedures. One says to cycle the wheel stop to stop and pump the brakes 3 time with the engine off. Repeat 90 times! The other method is start the car and turn stop to stop a few times, pump the brakes and repeat a few times. Check for bubbles in the fluid reserve tank.
When I flushed this one I did what people call the Hoot method, there should be plenty of info on it. 90 times sounds tiring! I could see doing that a couple times before start up, then starting and doing the second method you mentioned I think would suffice. Just doing the hydro boost I don't think there going to be much air that needs to come out.
I drive a. 2005 Chevrolet equinox LS and I can also prove the fact that yes the equinox’s don’t really have any get up and go even when entering the highway

Cool! I see your video is 3 years old now. What are your impressions 3 years later. Would you have done anything differently?
@@IvanLopez-dk1bw it’s been holding up pretty decent. Barrel is just fine I wouldn’t change anything with that, I think the holes drilled is adequate. The top I’d add maybe 1/2” or so of circumference to the inner circle, my top is a little charred and darkened from the heat there. Also I’d make the top out of pallet wood to keep the cost down as well, no need to spend money on nice looking boards that are going to get weathered and beat up.
In its time it i can't imagine it was looked at as cool. It's real cool now. I would go somewhat stock looking with tasteful wheels and a solid drive train. Have fun and nice find.

@@DrakesCustoms I’ve really been thinking about this! I’m not well versed in the ls world with what works best with what but that would for sure make this think more reliable.
@@DrakesCustoms and probably add a decent amount of power too.
Cool truck! Especially with it being a long bed stepside. Wood bed floor too right? It's wild that you've had it all these years and haven't cut it up or gone too wild with it. With that said and with just my own experience driving old vehicles as dailys most of my driving life, I'd say don't go too wild with it. Don't get me wrong, an Ls3 with a 4L80 or T56 would be fun. A duramax would be even more fun! But to do it right and reliable is definitely going to be some coin. I'm a strong believer that carburetors are so nice and I prefer them.... I don't know, I daily a no choke carburetored 347/T5 van as a daily and no issues when it's snowing in the mountains or when it's 115 degrees out. With your truck, I'd ditch the quadrajunk and put that holley on after you rebuild it. Also, the dieseling, that's usually timing. Timing combined with the carb that's on it, probably all that's giving you issues. As far as what else you can do to the truck, like I said, I really dig it. Seeing something done about the clear coat would be cool to watch. I wonder how a product like Poppys Patina in glossy would look on your truck? Also, just my opinion, but I'm not liking those seats or center console. I think it would be cool if you could find a bench seat. Bench seats are better anyway, you can have the missus closer. Anyway, cool truck again and I'll be looking forward to see what you do with it
Thankx 4 the help brother👊🏼💯

@@eugene1653el yea I really liked the v6. Great power not so great mileage haha.
Get ready. I just cut around that slot on my 2011 avalanche..... It was not easy. If they wanted us to cut it away they sure did make the plastic thick even though the slot is implied. You can see where it's supposed to be. At least that allows you to know where to cut but that doesn't make it any easier to cut through thick dash plastic without the blade wandering or slipping and possibly cutting yourself so be careful ias you're going to be very angry while you're doing this because you have this information and there's absolutely no reason did an AC system that has debris going through it should not have a filter I can confirm this after I ripped that thing off along with the parts of the plastic around it. Because it really isn't designed to be done easily. It's a weird angle to dig in with a box cutter or some other razor-like device. I saw another video where a guy just used a spinning disk and just melted the plastic while cutting it. It's not some secret compartment you're not going to get a free filter when you open it. What you're going to get is a good look add all the garbage that has gone up in clogged your AC system. For me that would be around 14 years creating this abstract art attached object and other crap collage it has no business being created in the first place.. this isn't just a design flaw , this is a bad decision made by designers who already had this in place and took it away. Why? If you're able to get in there and take a look. You're going to want to talk to somebody about it like how do I get this out to clean it or how can I clean it? It's already destroyed my blower motor and I think it burned out the resistor. No big deal. Now on top of diagnosing why my AC wasn't working and spending the time and the money to buy all the parts because they were probably ruined because of this ingenious design? What designer of an HVAC system thinks it doesn't need filtration. Help most cars have a pre-filter and one after. This one goes to 11 oh I'm sorry I mean zero. And when you have zero filtration? I'll probably hear your screan from where I'm at when you finally get in there and take a look. There are conflicting videos about this online period with mechanic showing them taking the filter out of a 2011 just like it was a 2001. If you go up to the auto parts store and ask if they have a filter they say yes. And when you finally determined that it's supposed to have a filter why wouldn't it have a filter? You trying to figure out how to access yeah there's nothing there except for an outline where they're supposed to be a door. Then people will tell you you get to it through the glove box and to take that off. And the final answer and I'm not kidding he said you have to cut your vehicle open with a sharp blade all right spinning Dremel disc to get to the empty space where you put your filters in. Probably about 10 to 15 years too late. I know I've written too much to say I'm speechless.
nice
Appreciate the review very much, agree with everyone else, those gaps on a custom shade are unacceptable. CoverCraft should respond or clarify exactly how they expect a custom fit to fit.
This would fail an inspection. That switch is not rated for 30 amps and you've basically put it inline with the heater load which defeats the purpose of using a contactor. The point of the contactor is to handle the load such that something like a normal light switch (or timer) can power the coil. Also it's kinda wasteful and potentially dangerous (heat) to run romex like that through PVC (nitpick). Much cleaner (and easier to pull) to use individual THHN conductors. Nice heater BTW, I have the same one.
Unless he wired it differently than the diagram, the switch isn't in line with the heater. It's in parallel; the hot at the switch is spliced from the receptacle's hot line and then it only powers the contactor coil. The current through the switch will only be as much as the contactor coil draws, plus the power for the light. Technically the switch in the diagram is labelled a bit strangely, since it's more accurate to say the line going to the contactor coil is "load", not "hot", but the circuit itself checks out. Individual conductors should have been used in the conduit though for sure.
Do you know the part number for the panel cover ???

Just swapped out one of these on the old motorhome - check into the 178-1040 - it should be identical to the 1036 and cheaper. Also for you guys that tow- a small trans cooler plumbed into the PS return line and use a TES-295 ATF fluid like Mobil one Delvac or Castrol Transynd will extend the life of your components and save your shit from boiling over in hot ambient temps while trying to back in your trailer/load. The throttle lever and fast idle cam are steel and saw a bit of corrosion on them. Ended up using Evaporust in my ultrsonic cleaner and clened right up. I'm a new believer in the Pine Sol!
the expensive one is GAPVILLE
