Cursed To Toil Woodcrafts
Приєднався 5 чер 2013
My UA-cam channel embraces the profound message of Gen 3:17-20, where humanity's toil becomes the foundation of my artistic journey. From humble beginnings, I fashion extraordinary pens and captivating treasures to satiate this curse to toil by keeping my hands busy and leaning into the fact that my body strives to not allow my hands to become idle.

You were right about that one man! That looks awesome! Great work.
Wonderful looking pens. That inlay technique is great. Other pens I saw you make you used a powder with a CA glue in guessing. I jist started making pens about 2 months ago and did one with some inlay. Turned out good for using some nail polish to fill in my groves I made. I am always looking for new ways to make them pop. Can I ask what that powder is? Maybe chat with you sometime to discuss pen techniques.
Sure, the inlay I’m using is a crushed Bello Opal. It’s a lab made opal that I produce and sell in my Etsy store. But there is nothing like it for the end result for inlay. But it is on the pricey side of inlay (about $10/gram) But it’s definitely worth the practice because their the coolest looking pens I’ve ever seen not being boastful but man they just look incredible with a good inlay and finish on them.
@cursed_to_toil awesome. I found your shop on etsy. I also looked back and noticed carbide tools for turning with the inlay. Are they needed or would traditional steel chisels work too?
Absolutely amazing
That’s really cool
Thanks!
That is beautiful!
Thank you!!
Thanks for sharing this with me! Wonderful job and explanation
Thank you kindly!
Absolutely gorgeous
What finish do you use
That is a CA finish.
Very nice
Nice
Thanks
Beautiful !
Thanks!
Amazing 🤩
Wondering where you got your tusk? Would enjoy making my own . Have a pocket knife with mammoth scales and that would be a great combination.
Well Done Jo jo, Its Nick
Thanks brother!
Beautiful work. I am a pen turner who is just getting into inlays and will be checking out your Etsy site. Can you share what type of CS glue you use?
Hey thanks!! I use mercury flex for my CA and only use thin and medium.
It amazes how much unsafe shit I see on youtube in the woodworking sect. Don't ever use a dremel the way this idiot is doing it.
Ok... listen... You just saved me! I'm a disabled single Mother and I don't make enough to live on my own yet. I'm hoping if I can make things, I can work around my disability. I'm new to wood turning and I love my WEN but I cannot turn that wheel!!! Now having been raised in a traditional family, I had to work very hard to get out of the kitchen to get into the garage and all my life being told how dangerous everything was and when men run to take over when I just hold the measuring tape has given me a healthy dose of fear and insecurity! It wasn't until recently that I realized... Men don't know what they're doing anymore than I am, they're just willing to just try methods until the solution ultimately works. Sometimes I struggle with feeling so out of my element and I wonder why I'm attempting this until this video! I didn't occur to me that men would struggle with this wheel as well! This is solution saved my business let alone my spirits. Such a simple fix, I did it myself, finally no man came to rescue me (because I kicked them all out of my garage) I didn't cry for once AND I just hollowed out my blank and it didn't even hurt! I'm liberated. Thank you for this ray of hope! More please!
My hand cramped up today drill pen blanks. Nice easy fix that I will make tomorrow. Thank you!!
Wow!!!
Awesome!
Complimenti bravo 👏 ottima idea.
stunning! Thanks for sharing the process! I make custom fishing rods and am going to try this technique in a custom turned wood grip!
Superb craftsmanship. Stunning pen.
Thank you!!
An welche hand gehört hier der Handschuh????
Es tut mir leid, ich spreche kein Deutsch und mein Übersetzer versteht diesen Kommentar nicht. Können Sie es für mich umformulieren?
@@cursed_to_toil They were asking which hand had the glove on. I forget if you wore a glove at any time lol.
What a beautiful pen
Thank you'
Very cool project! Thanks for sharing!!

Wow I love the blue so pretty and the dog is so cute ❤❤❤❤
Oh my goodness that’s sooooooo beautiful you are very talented ❤❤❤❤❤
Electrifying! Dramatic footage. Lighting is so powerful. Greg
Wow. Incredible; your pastor probably cried when you told them the story behind the pen.
Thank you for those very kind words
Funny, I turned some for my camera bag zipper pulls a while back. The burl looks great. Greg
How do you not have CA all over your hands! I would have all of my fingers stuck together!
Haha! I usually do 😂. I’m normally peeling it off before polishing but, I have gotten better.
Hey Jonathan, i just bought some of the opal from your shop. I am looking forward to its arrival... i am new to inlay so i hope i don't make your product look bad. Beautiful work and pens. Greg
Awesome! I got it and will have it out in the morning 😉👍 I look forward to seeing what you make if you can tag me in it. Quick tip is to watch your heat when sanding down and making a design of various sized dots or holes is much easier than the lines to start out. And with lines, I use a diamond cutting wheel for the lines and the control the slow burning cuts it makes
beautiful pens. Where do you get the opal "dust"? Have you ever used anything else?
I process and sell the opal in my Etsy store at CursedToToil under superior opal. But I do use other inlay materials though, nothing really compares to the brilliance that Bello opal gives. My store sells 3 sizes. 0.75mm, 1.5mm, and 2.5mm. The 0.75 and 1.5mm are great for the low profile designs. The 2.5mm, if it fits looks awesome as well!
Beautiful
Thanks!
Lovely
Where do you get your crushed opal?
I crush it and process it myself. I sell It in my Etsy store as well. The store is also called CursedToToil
Very nice
What is opal ? Could you clarify please -
Opal is a precious gemstone. Specifically, there are multiple types of Opal both natural and manufactured. What I use is called Bello opal. It is the manufactured opal and can be found in various types of jewelry. It's value varies depending on application. So, a ring made with this inside can cost $80-$150 depending on some other factors. A ring made from a solid piece of bello opal can cost $250-$400 depending on a few factors. Primarily, there is not a lot of use of this inlay outside of small jewelry applications. This opal is produced by Sanwa Pearl Company, and they are the sole manufacturer of this opal. They produce 92 color variations, and each have stunning reflective profiles. I like to embellish my wood working projects with it and it seems to be an incredible value add for a handmade, hand engraved piece like these are. I have put lot of practice into this engraving and inlaying technique and the opal just does wonders for it. I hope to extend this out into other woodworking projects to really highlight opal for other inlay applications. Natural Opal is quite a bit different than this type of opal. Both have beautiful qualities.
@@cursed_to_toil . It is indeed very nice of you for painstakingly taking time to reply. A lot of clarity after reading your detailed mail. Thank you once again . With respect from India. Mohan
Il est magnifique ce stylo 🤩 Félicitations 👍
Thank you!!
Very beautful, can you tell me what kind of powder or pigment did you use?
I used crushed bello opal. I sell it in my Etsy store. However it is closed for May. Will be open June 1
Nice! 👍👍
That looks fantastic! I bet it was tricky setting the stones. Did you CA over them or set them after the finish?
I set them with CA and then flooded with CA. However, with these stones, I had to ensure that they were set deep enough to not tear them up on refinishing them. Check out the mammoth ivory one I just posted
@@cursed_to_toil Thanks, I'll check it out.
Waw Magnifique 🤩
Très jolie Bravo 👍
Thank you
When using the dremmal tool how deep are you cutting into the blank and once you put the crystals in which turning carbide tool are you using?
I try to keep the channel 1-2mm above the brass tube. But occasionally it goes to the tube. Then the tool is a Rikon 70-800 round carbide. The stones are a crushed opal that I sell in my Etsy store CursedToToil
Looks beautiful! 👍👍👍
