All three Barrymores appeared together in only one movie, Rasputin and the Empress. While not a particularly accurate history in part due to a law suit from the assassin prince, Prince Felix Yusupov. it is an impressive movie. It was partially based on the Prince's 1928 memoir but more so on the novel by Alfred Klabund in 1927 Rasputin. The three Barrymores also were caricatured in the Mickey Mouse cartoon Mickey's Gala Premiere (1933) as they appeared in the movie.

To me, none finer has ever existed. Hugely talented; a natural-?; or, extremely extensive training-? Tragically, far too self destructive; &, unwilling to arrest his fatal ailment: severe alcoholism.

I love him and I always will! Barrymore was full of live, he was a man full of contradictions (intelligent, subtle, athletic, wise, passionate, witty, talented, handsome but irresponsible, weak, brutal, melancholic, vulgar, addicted, pitiful, untidy) and that's why he was a brilliant actor. Tempest and Don Juan - he was great in these movies too.

I couldn’t stand to watch more than 10 minutes of Twentieth Century. All they did was yell at each other at the top of their lungs. Not funny just annoying. John always seemed overrated to me while brother Lionel was underrated.

In the poster of Dr. Jekkyll & Mister Hyde it looks like John Barrymore and John Lennon....together again for the first time! Finally saw a Bill of Divorcement. They are all so over the top BUT the script is so over the top. They are all fantastic! Everyone is so good in Dinner at Eight....that Motion Picture seems so much more natural compared to Bill of Divorcement! Love this film. the poster of this video forgot the critical words "To me" - "To me - the greatest actor" - that would blunt the arrogant tone when stating that HE KNOWS who the greatest is - especially in matters of taste - but there is no objective way of rating acting - it comes down to what each of us prefers in a performance - and that will differ

Jack Barrymore was the greatest Shakespearean actor of the 20th century. He added the psychological emphasis to Hamlet and Richard III. Even today no one varies from his interpretation. I would include "Grand Hotel", "Midnight", "Topaze" and "The Great Man Votes to the list. He was incredble as an actor and a tragedy as a man.

I think it was Peter Brooks?????? that said plays are IMMEDIATELY passé because we will never know what the times truly reflected. For example we will never know exactly how Shakespeare's plays were acted. All of the Barrymores were trained when film was NOT a thing. When film came into being it was SILENT. So it was strange to stage actors but at least they were good at what we call "Playing to the back row" so they had the LOOK thing down. Then talkies came in and they are so strange because they are mostly plays and they are a bit over the top. Watch John B. in A BILL OF DIVORCEMENT with Katherine Hepburn. They are so weird and over the top but then so is the material. Katherine Hepburn had such a long career that you can see the different styles of acting. And ....I love Brando and Olivier. ua-cam.com/video/0QORFxgKri8/v-deo.html
