Originally these trains were planed for non-electrified curvy lines in the mountains-areas of middle and south germany with tilting technology. But this was not so successfull as maintenance costs increased. So they were used in the northern part with deactivated tilting devices.

No real innovations needed to make high speed Steam Engines. Thats easy - just use bigger Wheels. But you trade sped versus acceleration, so travel time from a to b may benfit more from acceleration, if you have more stops. More important is the most restricitng factor - the track itself. Its build for a specific speed, a faster loko has no impact at all.

uk has a ton of high speed diesel such as class 180 class 220/221 class 222 class 800 and class 43 however all are being replaced but the 800 series because they bi mode💔

Australia has significant non electrified track and has very few intercity train services (tourist “cruise ship” services like the ghan are not practical as a commute mechanism) Australia would do well to learn about the diesel ice services in Germany and what worked and what didn’t.

Germans and transmissions 2 things that don’t match

Like otehrs have said they were initially built for other routes before getting put on the routes to Denmark. Before then and since then, convenrional rolling stock, namely IC3 DMUs have been used instead and more recently old DB IC1 carriages as a stopgap ahead of the new trains for the route. DSB has ordered 16 Talgo trainsets thatll run at 200km/h via the tunnel (not a bridge) when its done in hopefully 2029 and redudes travel time from Copenhagen to Hamburg to just 2½ hours. Apart from being pulled by Siemens Vectron locomotives with a lower 200km/h top speeds, these new Talgo trains will be extremely similar to the new 230km/h ICE-L trains that Deutsche Bahn have bought 83 sets of from Talgo. DSB's sets will mainly be used going bsck and forth between Hamburg and Copenhagen but DSB are also planning some new routes. Namely Copenhagen to Amsterdam and Copenhagen to Oslo utilising the trains. As well as partnering up with other operators like Ceske Drahy to extend their ComfortJet service to Copenhagen. We'll likely also see ICE-L's head to Copenhagen the same way for routes like Copenhagen to Berlin, Frankfurt, or Munich.
