Potato Salad Hill claims another victim, Moab
Way too much air in those tires.
Claims another victim? Were?
They never should have put potato salad on that rock. Made it too slippery.
How'd the taco do throughout the rest of the trail? How do you think a stock geometry suspension 3 gen w/ 3" lift, 33s, and a front & rear locker would handle Pritchett? It's got sliders, skids, and high clearance rear bumper too.
Man that thing barely even caressed that rock before it started breaking.
Worse than that: bailed from the trip drove home and tore it down to find nothing wrong. Operator error: I think a hub or the locker didn't fully engage.
@@MattPratt OMG that sucks!!!! LOL
Really boring
This was painful to listen to.
Looks like a SSC Controls pedal. It's $200 and worth every penny.
this is why china sells so much stuff a basic machine is 1200 or multi process is 4k just a bit much but is what it is .thank for video
Cool setup! Can you tell me what alternator and circuit you used?
The dog spotter knew the line to take
Good job.😉
Just stumbled on this video. Do you think the mains input board contains a PFC regulator? I'd guess so bases on the electronics...
Sad
Ouch
I don't have this model, but I have the Stel Iron Mig 221 P (Mig Welder same as the HTP Pro pulse 220 MTS) and the Stel dp Max 201 C (Stick Welder Same as the HTP Inverarc 200 TLP) Both fantastic Machines I live in Ireland, HTP do not sell in Europe probably part of the supply agreement with Stel. One thing I'm not sure of and would appreciate anyone who can provide this information, What resistance are used for the foot pedals on those machines? the Stel branded ones are pretty expensive about $485with a 4.5m lead which is a little over the top imo. They do a nice remote for the stick welder which is pretty reasonable $300 with 30 meters of cable which is pretty useful for much of the mobile work i tend to do which can be at height quite often. The pedal though wouldn't be worth it for me on that particular machine, it's more a nice to have or get a cheaper one.
Do you have any information or review on the PrimeWeld 225? I absolutely LOVE the mechanical knobs on the PrimeWeld, as I think it's one of the last "dinosaur" mechanical welders with a mechanical interface. The Vulcan by Harbor Freight is the exact opposite, with absolutely no mechanical rheostats/potentiometers/dials to adjust. I feel like it's just a matter of time before all the welders just switch to a touch screen. I want to hurry and get the PrimeWeld now before they stop making them.
I own the prime well take 225x and I've added the max cool 3000 water cooler in a water cooled torch best investment ever 2 years now been running at Non-Stop great welder and can weld anything put in front of me. I've even been trying to figure out how to TIG weld air together. LOL 😂😄
I'm back again after a year. Still love these machines. However, the UK dealer wants to charge even more than a Fronius. So I may end up getting a Fronius. I'm from Aussie - sounds like you are too. How did you get a Stel/HTP in Aus?
Hi Matt, How do you remove the top cover on these pedals. It seems the ends of the shaft must be drilled out. But then the shaft will probably have to be replaced? I need to replace the post in my pedal. I would appreciate your comments Mike in germany
Did you ever figure this out? I was wondering the same thing.
It is a spring loaded shaft, so you just press it in so the top pedal sheet metal clears , assembly in reverse.
Edit out the “and ums” and you have a 15 minute video. 34 minutes and no mention of the cheap IGBTs that several people have had blow up for no good reason, but they’re hard to see unless you take the boards out, they’re in a housing on the back side of the primary power PCB.
Totally agree, the uhms suck. Got any links to the IGBT problems?
@@MattPratt I wish I had the patience guys like you have to make a video, but I just don’t. Out of just the circle I run in I know of at least three of these machines that are less than 7 years old that the IGBTs just blew up. That’s just the people I personally know. No telling how many are out there. But in HTP’s defense, IGBTs are weak in my opinion. Almost like they’re the “good enoughs” until something better replaces them. I know other machines probably have IGBTs blow up too, but I don’t know anyone that has a name brand machine that’s crapped out on them. I’m about to replace the IGBTs in mine here in the next couple of days I hope. We’ll see if $8 worth of parts will make her weld again.
@@ryanjones9305 At 21:13, he shows what he identifies as a *large* IGBT. Might that instead be the goo-filled housing containing the four smaller IGBTs that you showed on the millerwelds forums?
@@dahut3614 it could be. That’s about the right spot for it. You’d have to look down from the top like he is or you really need to take the board out to see it clearly. It’s a plastic housing filled with the schmoo. The top of the housing is aluminum and that attaches to the main body of the machine as a heat sink.
Apparently the owner didn't upgrade the axles when he put on those meats.
Keep it up man good video, You don’t need 15 expensive cameras and 20 microphones to make good content You need information and useful insight for real people that do real stuff not camera tricks and rambling like an idiot
So did he make it?
I have seen less attention to detail in hifi gear. Someone clearly took pride in making a good machine. Nice video walking through this. Edit: 24:17 WAGO makes those. Spring loaded clamps to common wires together.
I'm here because I care what's inside 🤘 nice teardown! We want more of this!
Around the 24min mark you mentioned a cheap connector. Thats a Wago wire connector. Actually its not cheap compared to a normal wire nut. It's a modern clip in style wire (nut) connector. Good review man.
Hell yeah, thanks for taking a video.
Is she still welding good?
Yep, still a recommended buy from me.
@@MattPratt Good to hear Matt. Just bought my Invertig 221 DV 2 months ago. Still learning it. I love it.
There's no doubt, China has lowered the bar, when it comes to international standards of quality and safety. This is invaluable information. Thanks for taking the time. I just have to find a reseller for STEL in 'Rip-off Britain' now.
See if Jeff Nolan will send you one from USA. Shipping would be a lot no doubt. Don't know if the VAT would be high over there.
@@Mikael5732 I found 1 re-seller in the UK and they can't even put pictures of the ancillary equipment you get when you buy one, like earth clamps, torch, pedals. Britain is the worst when it comes to buying tools. Even though the best tool makers in the world are just across the channel in Germany, Switzerland, Italy and Austria. English welding supplies are lazy and wilfully ignorant - and then expensive.
@@freshpootube Sorry to hear that about the UK. You cannot go wrong with this welder. I had been looking at this welder for years. I have a Miller Econotig I bought used for $600 used, transformer model. Used mostly for SMAW. I had always wanted a Miller Dynasty but after extensive research, found quite a few customers with bad stories of problems and of course the price. I researched extensively on STEL (HTP in N. America) and found NO problems and nothing but great reviews from those who had owned them for years. I like the compactness of it, not a large bulky box. Bought the Dual Voltage model for portability and glad I did. Have a great week!
Outstanding walkthrough. Thorough, well-paced, and full of informed commentary. Thank you.
would have liked to see inside the other pedal too.
I WATCHED VIDEO ON,"THE FABRICATION SERIES"ON THE"HTP INVERTIG 221 AC/DC WELDER. WHAT REALLY CAUGHT MY EYE WAS THE AMPS,4-220.MOST INVERTERS GO DOWN TO 10 AMPS(I NEED A MIN OF 5 AMPS OR LESS.) WHEN I'M IN THE MARKET FOR A WELDING MACHINE I LOOK FOR CERTAIN THINGS FIRST;AMPS HOW LOW AND HIGH,IS IT AC/DC,TIG AND STICK AND WHAT COUNTRY IS IT MADE,I WON'T BUY A WELDING MACHINE MADE IN CHINA(EVERLAST)I DON'T CARE IF IT CHANGES THE WEATHER AND COMES WITH A 12 YEAR WARRANTY.
Craig: FYI... Typing in all caps means you're shouting. Not cool, unless you're mad.(At me!).
You should have ignored any legal threats. That’s all it is, threats, you’re not breaking any laws giving an opinion online. Should’ve told them to shove it. It’s common for manufacturers to issue threats to UA-camrs, and online reviewers, that’s just to scare you into backing down. You should not have taken the bait.
I bought one of these machines a couple years ago after watching this video and its been awesome!
Great review thank you for the information I was caught between a sanrex or one of these machines and I'm sold on the HTP as soon as they get them back in stock I'm going to own one.
They're in stock!!!!!!!
Why not just use Yota 8” axles?
Not strong enough.
Beautiful machine, but why even compare it to chinese anything?
Because the pricing is very similar to the Everlast Welders. Which a lot of people consider before finding out about HTP. I’ve found the actual manufacturer of Everlast Welders on Alibaba, and they only charge like $700-800 for their top of the line model, with accessories, meanwhile Everlast charges like almost $3K. I’m talking about their Multiprocess MIG/TIG/MMA line.
@@BigBear-- The everlast welders are not that bad. But I bought the HTP as I have been wanting one for over 10 years.
An Aussie accent ?
HTP was wise to give This Old Tony an HTP machine. I'm sold.
I believe the machine that HTP sent This Old Tony was the water cooler that goes with the Invertig 221. From the initial video it seems that he bought the welder himself. Then when he got the water cooler he changed it over to a set of four thermostatically-activated fans. That way the cooler is "fan on demand" like the welder. TOT mentioned that he really appreciates a quiet workshop and the HTP cooler is rather loud, like most coolers.
So how did the cheap torch work out? Not the cheap line, I know that's crap.
If you are going to replace the lead you may as well get a smaller / better torch.
@@MattPratt let me rephrase. These cheap torches are available without the line. Was just trying to get the jist if they were any good. Found the info elsewhere. thanks
What size is the torch ?
Hi, Can any body help me how can I debug stm32 with vs code on Ubuntu? Any help will be appreciated.
Hi did you had any success on this endeavor ?
@@VincentNeemie long time ago, I forgot 😁
What a pos!
I love my HTP invertig 221 and it has same settings at the dynasty 350 with independent ac adjustments, welds better than my dynasty dx. i got the water cooled option
I SWEAR DUDE... YOU SAY "NICE MACHINE BOLT OR SCREW" ONE MORE TIME AND I'LL GO THERE AND POUR ACID ON YOUR MACHINE!!!! NICE REVIEW OTHERWISE, KIND OF LONG...
It is a nice machine with no sheet meat self drilling screws, only bolts and machined screws.
Made in Italy..??!!! Who knew!!!
It is a rebranded STEL welder from Italy. Excellent, solid welders.
Will this welder or can this welder have moisture issues if in a detached garage in the Midwest ( Michigan ) I have transformer WELDERS but not an Inverter and read that Inverters don't do well in Non climatized / climate controlled buildings where moisture can build up on electronic componates and prematurely short out what is your take on this
jas van that's a good question, I live in Nebraska have an uninsulated 24x20 garage and run a propane heater in there to make it bare able and do notice moisture on tools,tv, slight rust on ways of machines but no issues with the esab inverter
Another “This Old Tony” watcher here. You did a fine job of this teardown. I just subscribed. All the guys here hopefully have also subscribed.

@Zane Malik It did the trick and I actually got access to my account again. I'm so happy! Thank you so much you really help me out !
@Ameer Joziah Glad I could help =)
With respect to the threats that you received for lawyers. First, they would have to prove malicious intent. To do this they would have to show how you receive some Financial benefit at their expense. This means showing both that you gained and that they lost. The burden of proof here would be on them. Once they accomplish that task (as if they could), they would still be subject to a vigorous defense. Which brings me to my second point. The truth is always the best defense against accusations of slander. But it would never come to that, because you have no vested interest in the rise of HTP at their expense.
Joseph DESTAUBIN well, it’s clear you aren’t a lawyer. They don’t have to prove malicious intent. It’s complex, but they just have to show possible harm. The problem with a teardown is that something that looks cheap, may actually work very well. That’s the problem with tear downs, they can be deceptive. But I’m now really curious to know which company that was. I have a suspicion, but I don’t want to state it here because I don’t want to add to any problems he may have.
You are quite correct, I am not a lawyer. But I thought I make it clear that harm that results from stating what is true is defensible as such, so long as malicious intent is not at issue.
The point I was making is that they have little to prove. This isn’t a situation where malicious intent needs to be involved, just the lack of understanding that statements that are unproven can hurt the company. I had two companies over the years, and was involved with various legal issues. Companies always have some sort of issue. I’m familiar with this sort of situation. What he may have said, and I say may, because I don’t know the specifics, could have resulted in loss of sales and damage to reputation. The problem with tear downs, as I mentioned, is that they’re not always a good indicator as to actual performance and reliability, though amateur “detectives” often think they are. It’s possible the company could take him to court. The problem here is not even whether they would win a suit, but that they could cost him time and money he can’t afford to spend. That’s the danger. It’s an iffy proposition to assume that if they lost, they would be required to pay for costs. Maybe, maybe not. All in all, some companies are very sensitive to these kinds of statements, and there is one I know of who is not only very sensitive, but one that I’ve had a run in with myself. I actually had to threaten them myself with action. But most people can’t do that, and so are vulnerable. In that case, it’s best not to mention names.
wago connector for the ground wires...interesting
Excellent review. I have the dual voltage 221, just received yesterday and am exited to get it ready to use. Your review helped me decide on this unit compared to others. Thank You.
Mike Hagins what part of the country do you live , I am looking at this welder also and I have heard that these inverters are sensitive to moisture / humidity levels since their is a lot more electronics in them compared to a transformer machines and need a climate controlled atmosphere ,i.e. Heated or cooled building , I live in the Midwest ( Michigan ) and humidity is higher where I live compared to others and I don't have a climate controlled garage ,
I am in Missouri. Never have a problem, and I use it in my earth contact home/ workshop so the humidity can get high in the summer.
@@jasvan4359 I bought the Invertig 221 2 months ago and I live in Fl. No problem with humidity at all!
I bought the DV also.
You should be comparing the Invertig to a Dynasty not a china welder. The Invertig is far superior to any chinese made welding machine, they shouldn't even be mentioned in the same sentence. great review though
Chris Miller I did a comparison on a dynasty and 221.
@@weldingjunkie Sorry you had problems with you Dynasty. Your vid about your problems was a eye opener about Millers, I have had an Miller Econotig for about 15 years, transformer based tig, and it has been solid but just used it for SMAW only.
