British defamation laws do not have the "public figure" defense that US does. As Katherine said, she doesn't want to put her mortgage on the line, especially as it is not her story to tell. Hopefully soon the victims will be in a secure enough position to collectively make their voices heard.

This seems pretty common with people who rise up in the right-wing space. "The left is trying to cancel me! Free speech! Libertarianism! RAH RAH!", in reality, to them these things mean "I should be able to do what I want even if it's harmful, fuck you", so they're drawn to it. Same reason Musk has been going down the same pipeline.

When you see this formula, it becomes quite obvious. Start talking about cancel culture well before these things happen, start disputing what the media says, so when the ball drops, you dive even harder into blaming cancel culture/wokeness. Just waiting for things to start coming out about Musk.

@@MrIAgreeToDisagree There have been little things here and there over the years about Musk already, which would continue to trigger him on Twitter (likely part of the reason he wanted to buy Twitter). There was also that article from a year and a half ago about SpaceX paying a flight attendant $250k to drop a sexual misconduct claim against Musk... But I think his anger is mostly at people criticizing his business practices and the worse and worse things he'd been saying over the years. Says bad things, gets criticized, moves further right, says worse shit, cycle continues.

She literally did nothing to actually help the situation! If you publicly accuse someone at a comedy show, do you really think people are going to take it seriously?! That is not an appropriate place for such announcements. And do you really think Russell would have been like “OMg! She’s right! I gotta work on my issues! Thanks lady for pointing it out!” And given how serious these accusations are, it is important to verify these claims before spreading them. Rumors are not the same as established facts backed by evidence .

it's difficult when it's public personas involved. If he did something that she can't conclusively prove happened, mentioning it has legal implications that can end up hurting her (even if it's something she knows happened), hence why she's being cagey.
