Hi all you lovely subscribers . In this vid I am using a 1rpm high tourque motor bought from Amazon to revolve the modded vacumn cleaner motor inside its housing , I am try to get the phase correct on the synchronous spark gap I recently built , you can see the spark lenghth increase as it get closer and hear the 200bps get louder as it gets closer to synchronisation .
I need more capacitors .
Переглядів 1072 місяці тому
Going to add some more capacitors in parallel , it should then tune on about 6 turns , hopefully less resistance equals more power , Its all a big learning curve , and good fun .

Here we go again , a complete rebuild as my last attempt looked like crap and was a bad design all over , seems like I a was going backwards and not progressing , maybe cos I stole that sewer pipe bad karma , It didnt work , damp mdf and other earthing issues I suspect , So I am re doing it with polycarbonate and other expensive stuff , like i did with my 8 inch coil that looks good and works ....

The part I dislike the most , building the torroid especially one this size 42 inch x 10 inch , It needs filling with plaster to remove the lines then covered in fibre glass more filling then some smoothing and then covered in foil , thats why i dont like making them .

I am going to go next step up , My previous Tesla coil has an 8 inch x 32 inch secondary and as you can see its easy doing 8 foot arcs , it wasn't properly tuned either , sadly that was the last time i used it . she is now a conversation piece in my living room . So I have decided I enjoy building them more than playing with them and have started one more build as its getting too costly now . A...

    Could people please stop buying technology they dont understand and if they do, at least read the fucking manual ? If the coil was just charging up, stay the fuck away from it. No, not even to turn it off or on, should you get this close when its charged.

    • @benjaminlockhart99
      @benjaminlockhart99 2 місяці тому

      @@1000000volts I think that makes sense. Higher pulse rate means more power through the coil as long as the MOTs can still charge the MMC enough.

  • @benjaminlockhart99
    @benjaminlockhart99 2 місяці тому

    I suspect that more capacitance won't really help. I think what you need is a high speed asynchronous rotary gap, maybe 300-500 bps. Spark length is proportional to sqrt(power throughput), so higher bps and the same bang energy means larger sparks.

    • @1000000volts
      @1000000volts 2 місяці тому

      Hi , I didnt want to add more capacitance , I just needed more in parellel so they can store more power . I will eventually be using a synchronous spark gap on there , thanks for your interest .

    Hey that's pretty cool! I see how the motor is wired with the capacitor but how does that make it synchronous?

    • @1000000volts
      @1000000volts 3 місяці тому

      Hi , I solderd two diodes to the commutator it now acts similar to the cutting flats in the armature mod , the capacitor is for a voltage dropper instead of using a variac , tha cap brings the voltage down to about 80volts as 240volts cooks it in a few seconds . The orange light is flashing at 50htz mains frequency .its just a standard 240v led bulb with the smoothing capacitor removed .

    • @tannersword1
      @tannersword1 3 місяці тому

      It's synchronous because it spins at a constant RPM dictated by the AC line frequency. It's intended to be used to switch high voltage from a capacitor which is also supplied by the AC line which is in phase with the spark gap motor AC line. Ideally, the spark gap will close/switch/conduct at some even harmonic of the line frequency, at/near peak voltage (unless the phase is shifted) i.e. 60Hz/2, 60Hz x 2 or 4x or x8... It allows maximum power transfer and regular discharges compared to an asynchronous spark gap, which fires whenever the electrodes happen to be close enough for whatever voltage the capacitor is at any given moment. Maximum voltage could be achieved by setting a ratio and a phase that allows a discharge and begin recharge every 180 degrees at peak + and - voltages, which would be 2 per cycle or 120Hz with 60Hz line. Alternately it could switch at every node and antinode (at 0V, max+ and max -). I think matching the line frequency would be difficult unless you wasted/shorted every other spark or half wave rectified the HV to capacitor (I could be wrong)
