7029 Clun Castle @ Kings Sutton + mini trainspotting session (Friday 10th May 2024)
Hello everyone and welcome back to another video on the channel and the first for quite some time. The main subject of this video is filming 7029 Clun Castle hauling The Great Western Railway 1Z48. This is to celebrate 60 years since Clun Castle achieved. The fastest ever non-stop run from Plymouth to Bristol in 133 minutes and 9 seconds. This tour is taking place over two days starting today (Friday, 10th May) from Birmingham travelling via Oxford on the Great Western mainline to Bristol and then onto Plymouth. The return trip will be on Saturday, 11th of May going from Plymouth via Bristol to London Paddington, where a diesel locomotive will take over for the funnel leg back up to Birmingham.
This video also includes a mini train spotting session where I also go to Kings Sutton station to film some freight trains.
If you are reading this after you watched the video, thanks for watching. I hope you enjoyed it and if you’re reading this before watching the video thank you for choosing to watch this video and I hope you enjoy it.

    Nice Video ! I decided to avoid those rubbish pantographs by purchasing the only Class 87 that has decent metal pantographs, the BR blue 87035 "Robert Burns" and have Legomanbiffo Sound installed. I travel on those quite regularly to Basingstoke / London and reversely to Salisbury and Exeter. I reckon they're the best on BR these days. Nice dude. The 87 looks great. I never thought the pantograph would be that fragile to handle. And I thought the one’s from the 80’s weren’t that fantastic, but I guess I’m wrong on that. Man, around £200 for one of those. That’s probably $300 in USD. That’s insane, but I’m probably guessing it’s the new DCC upgrade from 8 pin to 18-21 pin. Although Hornby’s coming out with a new Mallard train set where it’s Mallard in BR blue, and three Ex-LNER coaches in the cream and red. I’d love to snatch that once it’s out, but it’s over $200 USD. Thanks man. She really is a lovely loco. I also think it must be a three-pole because of the slow speed performance and the fact that Bachmann always put three-pole motors in their steam locos. They have started to put coreless motors in their new releases but that still doesn't make up for the fact that their old models had 3 pole. At least this does have metal bearings on the wheelset because I have seen models with three pole motors, not bearings and the wheel sets being placed in square slots. And considering the price, Hornby has an 0-6-0 with their J36 which, while still relatively expensive at £177, it is much better than this. So happy I got it for just under £100. £400 is worth exactly $484.39. Yes I did just search that up because why not. The last expensive one I had was the class 411 which was £420 and that has probably gone up in price as well. Bachmann just love to charge ridiculous prices for their multiple units. I don’t understand why they put two 3 pole motors though, maybe they though two instead of one 5 pole but it would have been even better if they had put two 5 pole motors. Apart from those parts though, I do love it. Sadly I never got to see this livery in real life but it is still one of my favourites.

      I didn't even know it was coming. We were on holiday in Exmouth and when we were on the train back from Plymouth, we passed this at Dawlish Warren so whilst we were waiting for our connection at Exeter St Davids to Exmouth we waited to watch it come through. I was supposed the stop but if was running rather late so I guess they decided not to. Very nice to see. Thanks for commenting, Cameron

    Very nice looking model. What a difference being Dcc ready compared the older Bachmann 58s which I bought a number of years ago and didn't realise it wasn't even dcc ready.. just for interest regarding engine noise I parchely striped down my Bachmann 108 and re oiled the gear train , motor and wheel bearings and it now runs virtually silent... I remember being told that they all sound the same !

      I know the feeling. I got an old tooled 158 a few years ago and when I found out it wasn't dcc ready I was disappointed so when I heard Bachmann announce this I thought 'I know it is gonna be expensive but I must get one'. I certainly look into what you say about the re-oiling. Thanks for commenting Cameron

    Looks a very nice model . I have a Scotrail 158 . As you found out they have a motor in each driving car . The decoration is superb it looks stunning . It also is a very smooth runner . However it sounds like a whaling banshee while running , beating some of my old Lima models when it comes to screeching . I phoned my retailer to send it back but was informed “they are all like that” he further sent me videos of him testing some and indeed they were the same . There is a theory that it’s the pulse wave modulation of some controllers that’s causing the noise . I’m not convinced . I think it’s just the motor cavitating . To fix that you would need to take the body off and I’m really a bit scared to do that for the moment . I think if you pack the motor with a bit of tape that might solve the issue . However for a £280 model that my 158 was it is really not good enough . I think Bachmann do a fantastic job of parting the enthusiast from his money . Not convinced these are worth it compared to others . Frankly my Hornby 156 which was £130 cheaper while obviously being very basic , runs much better

      Your right, the decoration is superb. It's a shame that it does make the noise and that all of them are like it but like you say, it is poor for how much it costs. Honestly I'm not too bothered with the noise because I do have some older models that make noise. The camera did also make it sound louder than it actually does. Your right with Bachmann being experts at charging big money. I don't think it is worth it but it is better detail wise and it is dcc ready compared to the old tooling but I'm glad I managed to get mine for £250. The rrp for this is absolutely pathetic. I can't see how these companies are gonna attract younger people with how much they charge these days, particularly Bachmann. Thanks for commenting Cameron

    I think all model railway equipment in the UK these days is too expensive. One retailer I saw, advertised a 00 guage class 47 for sale with dcc sound fitted just short of £300. A more realistic price would be around £60 - £80. There's a difference between making a profit and profertering.

      I completely agree with you Jonathan. Considering some of the major manufacturers want to entice young children into the hobby, with prices as they are, I can't see that happening on a big scale. Thanks for commenting Cameron

    Right then. The Southern Region used Two digit or two figure headcodes instead of the usual four character reporting codes. The two red rectangles mean the same as a tail lamp. A train running out of service would show two white ones at the front. The best couplers between coaches might be the class 101 bars as these give a good close couple unless you have seriously sharp curves on your layout. Also the two centre coaches need to go a particular way round, the first class needs to go towards the centre of the train on the TCK and the toilet needs to go towards the adjacent driving coach on the TSK

      Thanks for all the information. I don't live anywhere near the southern region which means I'm not that knowledgeable so thanks for all the information. Great video, I see Bachmann have fitted a driver figure again.. those small squares on the side are indeed steps which were used during maintenance in the early days but were removed on most in later years like the 47s . Mk1 carages had steps next to the corridor connections but removed in later years I'm guessing it was for safety reasons after electrification was introduced in the 60s

    I think I would prefer to see the full IC125 review as a one off set - locos and carriages. You really started me off making those dapol kits - 6 tankers and 6 meat vans. I have totally disregarded the D couplers and am thinking about alternatives. Still, it keeps me busy.....

      @cameronstrainsadventures Рік тому

      yeah, I think I will do the review of the HST and coaches all together in one video next year for the 5 year anniversary of the channel because I think that would make a more interesting video than doing the coaches separately. Good to hear that the kits are going well, those D couplers are absolutely useless but at the moment I don't have anything to replace them with so I'm having to stick with them. once i have finished off the final kit in the box of 4 i got, I think I'm going to venture into other kit manufacturers and also bogey wagons because i think that will be more of a challenge.

    1:50 The buffet cars like you say are hard to find ( and can be very expensive too!) The first buffet I purchased was the Intercity blue/ grey ( Eastern region) back in 2015 for £35 brand new and the other buffet I've got is the Royal train buffet car which I purchased in 2019 for £140. Super annoying how both are the ex Lima tooled models which stand out against the newer tooled Mk3s in the rakes

I’ve seen so many on eBay go for ridiculous prices so when I saw this it was like Christmas had come early and like you said the difference between the old Lima tooling and the newer tooling is huge, thankfully all of my mk3s are the old Lima tooling.
