Bangkok's Secret Bars and Speakeasies
What if we told you Bangkok has a secret nightlife scene hidden behind lockers, inside photo booths, and tucked away in unassuming storefronts? No, this isn’t an elaborate prank-this is the world of Bangkok’s speakeasies, where craft cocktails and hidden entrances turn a night out into a full-fledged adventure.
In this video, we take you on a hunt for Bangkok’s best speakeasies, starting with a quick history lesson on these elusive bars. Born from the Prohibition era when alcohol had to be hidden from authorities (spoiler: it didn’t stay hidden for long), speakeasies have since evolved into an art form, blending creativity, secrecy, and mixology magic. And because we love a good treasure hunt-especially one that ends with a cocktail-we set out to track down four of Bangkok’s most intriguing hidden bars:
First up is The Locker Room, where you have to literally walk through a wall of lockers to reach your well-earned drink. Then, we slip into The Rabbit Hole, an award-winning cocktail bar that proves Alice might’ve been onto something when she tumbled into Wonderland. Next, we uncover Blessing Shophouse, a speakeasy infused with traditional Chinese heritage, blending the aesthetics of an old-world Chinese shophouse with modern mixology. The intricate décor features plum blossom patterns and motifs symbolizing happiness, longevity, and good fortune, making it one of the most unique and visually stunning speakeasies in Bangkok. Finally, we finish the night at Find the Photo Booth, which is, you guessed it, hidden behind a vintage photo booth. If you ever wanted to feel like a secret agent ordering a craft cocktail, this is your place.
Along the way, we sample some of the most mind-blowing signature drinks these bars have to offer, watching the mixologists work their magic and confirming that, yes, Bangkok really is one of the best cocktail cities in the world. If you’re looking for unique things to do in Bangkok, a night of speakeasy-hopping is one adventure you won’t want to miss.
Join us as we navigate the twists, turns, and hidden doors of Bangkok’s secret bars, proving that sometimes, the best nights out start with a little detective work.

Fun video! I've now enjoyed both yours and Chris & Shayna's take on the same nights out. I can hardly wait to see what the next hidden spots are like!
Thanks Bill! Glad you enjoyed it! Talk about the best scavenger hunt ever!
Hola. That was really fun to watch, even though it’s really late here I couldn’t stop watching. What a fascinating idea, and each one has such a interesting theme. Anyone could just sit in the one they like the most and get smashed. 😜 The editing and photography is really good, mixed in with the music. The 4 of you together it really added to the adventure. 👍👍
We’re glad you liked it Don, and thanks for staying up to watch! It was a fun one to make. It would be hard to choose just one, and there’s many, many more to choose from in Bangkok!
@ I heard there might be an Episode 2? 😏
@donmorrow1923 🤔 possibly.
@ No vegetarian requirements on the cocktails I assume Kathy? 🤭
@donmorrow1923 haha, I don’t have to be too concerned about that! There are so many yummy options to choose from that easily fall into that category. In my mind anyway 🤣
I am heading to Mexico next March and was having a hard time deciding between seeing Chitchen Itza or Uxmal; unfortunately, 22:47 I will not have the opportunity to see both ruins but this video convinced me that I need to see Uxmal!! Thanks so much!!
Awesome! Glad it could help! We really loved Uxmal, and pretty sure you will too. Let us know your thoughts after you visit. Have the best time on your adventure!
I'll have the sherbert drink! Por favour! Fun video of you all!
Gracias Sandra, it was a fun one to make! 🤣 And yeah, that sherbet was delicioso!!
This was a great video! I hope you do another one with speakeasies soon!
Oh there will be more, you can count on that! Such a cool experience. Each place has thought of every detail, all so intentional, and connected to a theme. Kinda reminiscent of birthday parties in years gone by - but with alcohol 🤣
@@KNowWhat_KathyandScott You went to some boring birthday parties!
Oh you have no idea! They were the best kids parties ever!!

That Airbnb review had me in stitches!!! 😂
🤣🤣🤣 One of a kind place for sure!
Nice video guys.
Thanks!
Real title of the video: Eating food from anywhere in the world except from Nicaragua, in Nicaragua.
You make an excellent point. In fact we’ve felt the same way about some of our past videos like this one, and we’ve made the decision to highlight local food more often. Thanks for your feedback we truly appreciate your comment.
Ayutthawa...Ayutthawee, Ayutthaya.....that's ok kid, I can't say Chevoray! (Play on the old Isuzu ads) 😂😂😂 Great video guys!
Hahahaha! You should see when we try to order food in a restaurant. We ask for one thing (we think) and something entirely different gets placed in front of us!
That old city is so beautiful and amazing, as Kathy said to walk through a city where hundreds of years ago people lived and worshiped. When I visited Greece and took a boat ride to Delos from Mykonos and walked amongst the ruins uninhibited by anyone to enter and touch statues and see the tool marks, the small homes and religious site, a site of ancient mythology the birthplace of the twin Gods Apollo and Artimis, it was fascinating to know so many thousands of people once lived there around 700 BC. or earlier. Being in a place like you walked through it’s almost a feeling I got anyway, the spirts of those long gone are still there. I’ve always found history very fascinating and Kathy did a wonderful lecture in a way of explaining what the history and significance of each structure or Buddha was. Nice video as always. 👍👍
Thanks Don, isn’t it amazing to wander through ancient areas and lose yourself in the thought of the lives there long ago? It’s always incredibly impactful for us. We’ll have to do the trek you mentioned in Greece someday too!
@ I does have that effect on you. I sat in one little house in the ancient Delos village for a while and just contemplated what life would have been back then. So many ancient sites to visit but that one amazed me. As have the ones you’ve visited as well. Yes you should go see Greece, wonderful people. The Acropolis have long been under a restoration process for quite some time. There is a museum in Athens that holds some of the original pieces and sculptures, but since a explosion caused by munitions stored there in the late 1600’s caused a lot of damage, it’s still a beautiful place to visit, and the view from up there is spectacular.
@donmorrow1923 That’s definitely on the list now, Don, thanks for sharing. Greece has long been a place we want to visit, we have a strong draw to go there. Thing is, we might just want to stay so we’ve got to explore a few other areas of the globe first. 🤣
@ 😂
Thanks for the trip down memory lane. It seems so long ago I was there, but it wasn't. :-)
Hahaha! A lot has changed eh? 😂
It must've been so beautiful in it's original form!
We know! Can you imagine! It would have been fantastic!

In 2024 Thailand had 32 million people visited not 22 million and buddist is 543 year before greorion calendar.Hope u hv a nice trip in Thailand.
Oh you saw that!! 🤣 We’re aware of the current year and how many years difference there are between the two calendars, but unfortunately said it wrong! We were hoping no one would notice. 😉 Thanks also for the update on number of visitors in 2024. At the time of filming our research showed that was the total to date. Amazing how many more people visited since we recorded that. Just another confirmation of how popular a city Bangkok is! 🙏
now it's 38 millions tourists
Wow! That number climbs fast!

Hi, is Torio a good location when you don't have a car? It looks beautiful and we consider to go there, but the area seems far stretched. What are your thoughts?
Good question! The village itself is pretty compact and easily walkable, but it’s a bit of a hike to the beach - downhill, which means you’d have to hike back uphill. Our accommodation was about a five minute drive from the village but that would be walkable as well depending on fitness levels as it was also a bit hilly. There are likely places closer to the village (as well as farther away) And the hike we took in our video was also about a five minute drive from the village. All in all we would say it’s feasible to stay in Torino without a vehicle but we think it would add to the experience if you had a vehicle especially if you like to explore the coastline, beaches and jungle.
Oh yeah! And thanks for your question! Torio is really a beautiful hidden spot worth exploring
@@KNowWhat_KathyandScott Many thanks!! 😁
haha i hate Phra Aphai Mani a lot, he is a REAL Casanova (he has a Tons of wives and bed partners), he said he can't love the Giant because she's not a Human (he slept with her and they have 1 child together) BUT Meanwhile he fall in love with Mermaid (she's not a human too but more beautiful and he has a child with her haha)
Wow! What a guy that Phra Aphai Mani was! It sounds like there might be more surprises in that garden than we imagined! 😂
@ i used to studied about this poem when i was a kid (like primary school) i didn't think anything much but when i grew up i thought "wow~ that's sh*t" haha 😂

Thanks Bill! It really is amazing, and such a great start to our Thailand adventures. Certainly gave us inspiration for places we want to visit. We’re grateful to be a welcomed part of your week! 🙏
Amazing museum and park. So peaceful to be in amongst this testament to their beliefs in a higher power. What a beautiful legacy to leave the people of Thailand. The effort to recreate the Palaces and structures of their history of the culture, and literally disassemble and move actual buildings they lived in. Unlike today modern Bangkok with the glass and steel, these many unique buildings and religious places to assemble and pray, are unequal to many of those built in many areas of the world. You’re very fortunate to have visited this rare beauty, and thanks for bringing as much as you could in a short video, to me and others. 😊
Thanks Don! We certainly are grateful to have the opportunity to visit the ancient city. Know we have a better idea of areas in the country we want to visit for real! Definitely an incredible legacy for Thailand
@ it does give you that inspiration to see where all of these stunning structures are in Thailand. By the way…”Happy Birthday Scott” 🎉 I did watch the video of the cycle ride around another beautiful park. I’m sure you have some video of that as well.

สวัสดีครับคุณแม่คุณพ่อยินดีต้อนรับจาก❤ครับ😍

The Christian Era is counted from the birth of Jesus. The Buddhist Era is counted from the day the Lord Buddha passed away. In general, countries that count the Buddhist Era will count 1 day after the Lord Buddha passed away. But Thailand is different from other countries by counting almost 1 year after the Lord Buddha passed away. It starts from January 1st because it is easier to contact with Western countries for trade in ancient times. Buddhism came about 543 years before Christianity, which is why Thailand uses the Buddhist Era. We did not come from the future.😊😂
This is fantastic! One of the many things we love about travel is all the information we learn about cultures around the world. Thank you for sharing! …but are you sure this isn’t the future? Parts of Bangkok look pretty futuristic 😉😊
@@KNowWhat_KathyandScott We also have another way of counting called Rattanakosin Era. It is counted from the day that Bangkok was established as the capital and the beginning of the new dynasty and country after the old kingdom, Ayutthaya, was burned and destroyed by the Burmese. This year will be the 244th year of Rattanakosin Era. In ancient times, we called the era of the capital of this new kingdom Rattanakosin. But when the country reformed to be modern to avoid colonization from the western nations, this year of year counting was abolished and the New Year's Day was changed to the international one. The traditional Thai New Year is in April or Songkran Day.😊🇹🇭
@@KNowWhat_KathyandScott Not that much. Then Singapore, Japan, South Korea, China must have come from another multiverse. Thailand is just trying to develop as best as it can.😂😂
Also great information but we don’t know how you keep track! Most of the time we forget what day of the week it is! 😂
Don’t believe everything you see on the internet especially the content that written by foreigners. You will easily be mistaken the truth. I am a Thai woman I also talk to the monk. That’s no harm to do that just don’t touch them. Enjoy your trip 😊
Thank you for your comment and advice. You are correct that the Internet has a lot of incorrect information and we try to be careful but this piece of information slipped past us. Maybe you can help us with a question. We understood that it’s OK for a woman to talk to a monk, but she can’t start the conversation. Is that true?
@ In ancient times, women were often bound by strict rules that placed men in leadership roles for all activities. However, times have changed. Women can now speak with monks or engage in conversations with them, provided the dialogue is appropriate and conducted with respect. It’s important to avoid a playful or overly casual tone. As long as these guidelines are followed, such interactions are entirely acceptable.
Thank you so much. This is very helpful 🙏
@@KNowWhat_KathyandScott You are always welcome ♥️

Hola otra vez. 😏 I entirely forgot to congratulate you on reaching 1000 subscribers. 🎉 I’m so happy for the both of you as I know how much that must mean. You work very hard to put out such good content, with humour, on your many travel and life videos. It just seems so relaxing to watch. Speaking of that. If all the people watching your videos, for whatever reason would just hit the Like button, that would fantastic. Can’t wait until the next one!! 👍
Thank Don! Your support has been unwavering as we’ve been learning the ropes of this UA-cam thing, and we can’t express enough how much we appreciate you!
@Well, let me say honestly, your videos always make me smile and chuckle. You need to laugh everyday and you both help with that rule, no doubt about it. 😅

The women are allowed to talk or interact with the Thai monk except the physical contacts according to the Buddhist Vows. And do not stand or sit close to the monk as well. Please don't trust all those info you have. Asking Thai people is the best way for the correct information about Thai culture. Just enjoy your stay and don't worry too much, Thai people are kind and willing to help you. Hope you have a great time in Thailand.😊
Thank you for the information, we are always open to learning more! 🙏 We are really enjoying our time here in Thailand, and agree people are so friendly and helpful. 💕
