Hey there! My name is Kait and I help people take their productivity and organization to the next level with expert-level educational content.
I cover mostly different time management systems, productivity books, software and other products.
I'll also get into business and freelance topics. The more autonomy you have in your work, the more important having some knowledge in productivity becomes. So I think these two areas are related.
You may also find some vlogs and home organization videos among my older videos.
I'm a mother-of-two and software founder. My company, Simply Digital, makes Simply Goals & Tasks a task management Android app. I've recently moved to the Swiss Alps. But before then I was in Rome Italy, San Francisco California, Boston, and New Jersey.
Thanks for visiting my channel :)

We're moving...again! We moved into this beautiful apartment 1.5 years ago. And now we're moving again! I wanted to capture our home before packing it up, so we could always remember it. And I wanted to share :)

I appreciate the information you have provided - its valuable. Having just bought some besta cabinets to be fitted as a sideboard, I was unimpressed by the quality of the 'fit'. As you quite rightly said, we may need a third party option to 'jazz-up' or improve this... I'm fitting this in the living room 😭 Your video/upload is quality and very relevant when someone could require help for this type of thing. Thank you
I'm pretty happy with this level of Christmasyness. And particularly happy with how good it looks considering we moved into this place 1 month ago ::self high five::
I removed once the roof of the bottom frame
Hope you have a good move!
Thanks 💜
So that it would look like this: TASK DURATION SCHEDULE
A great tip is to write also the estimated or actual duration of the time it takes to complete each task or activity.
So it looks like this: Task | Duration | Schedule
Oh that would be a nice addition! Duration is a key part of our planner app (www.simply.digital). It's cool because an app can add up times and tell the user where their time is going and how full their day is. But we didn't think to include it in the Paper version. Maybe for version 2 ☺️
@kait-hanrahan ohhhh! That is so awesome! I NEED it!
Thank you so much! I so need this!👍👍
Great video answering questions I didn't even know I had! Can't wait to try out the Besta planner. And the sound -- not a big deal to me. People can be so picky...
so what are those special pegs called or whats the item # to look on ikea?
Pronounce words correctly. Thanks
What did you say? Can you pls say it again, that also a native English speaker can understand, what you were saying?!?!?!
I said 52 people had signed up for the wait list at paper.simply.digital and I was excited about it. That's all 🤷🏻♀️
thank you for this. I used to use FP in the mid to late 90's. But then I forgot about it. Listening to you, I was surprised how much I had been subconsciously recreating in every planner I have purchase sense. I recently uncovered my old FP stuff and had just decided to use it as a home management binder. Interesting to see how much of this system still works for me....oh the money and time I could have saved from running down the planner community rabbit hole. 🤦🏿♀
Haha loved this comment! I think there is a lot of good ideas coming from smaller planners (like mine wink wink, haha). But FP 101 feels like Planning 101. They get the fundamentals right on. Thanks for watching and commenting 💜
These videos are EXTREMELY HELPFUL Thank you!
Thaaaaaaank you!!!! This comment means a lot 💜
OMG you just blew my mind with your comment being like "it's flexible you could bind it from the top". I am left handed and could not figure out a better solution with my discs and I am going to try this! It would also give me more room and easier to print for my Animal Crossing journal!
Yay! And yeah, I'm a righty but I print two-sided so same/similar issue when writing close to the disk-side edge. Hardest thing is going to be finding covers with the mushroom holes on top. But if this isn't going in your bag everyday, I think you could get away with card stock or thin plastic punched yourself. Good luck 😊
Audio is not good at all. Echoes. Sounds like you in a tunnel
Hi. Thank you for sharing all of these tools. Question on your Amazon Affiliate link, should it take me to my home page to shop as normal or take me to your recommended page so I shop your recommendations? Thanks!
Thank you so much for using my link ❤️ I'm not big enough for Amazon to let me make a storefront yet. But I hope to get there 🤞🏻 So yes, it will just look like your normal Amazon, but if you make a purchase after clicking my link I'll get credit and closer to making a storefront.
@@kait-hanrahan Lame, Amazon! Give her her page.
We used to have FRANKLIN PLANNERS in the Army when I was a young officer in the 1980s. You ordered them from the Supply Room and they worked great. They were simple and effective. Then Steven Covey came along with his "7 Principles" BS and the CULT known as Franklin-Covey was born. The method is great for bored older ladies who own many cats . . . bored young ladies who spend their time "journaling" about whatever nonsense happened to them that day . . . and effete, highly neurotic people who love pastels. FOR THE REST OF US . . . it's much too broad, too foo-foo, too me-me-me and overly complicated. BTW . . . the hardy Franklin Planner is gone and the Franklin-Covey Planner/System was ubiquitous in the Army at around ten times the cost when I retired. Overall improvement? None. We used to throw out BOXES of unused planners every year. What a scam. Not a single successful leader that I know used it. (I certainly didn't.) So what works? 3x5 cards. If you can't contain your "goal setting" and "time management" in a simple stack of 3x5 cards that you can carry in a pocket . . . you're grossly over-thinking it and you're wasting time. Your 3x5 cards are backed up by a simple calendar so you don't forget birthdays and important meetings. You maintain files for the paperwork that accompanies most projects in our "digital information age" and you toss out the files as soon as the project is complete. Finally, you should maintain a simple diary of daily events so you know who's been naughty and nice and who to send Christmas cards to that year. K.I.S.S.
I really enjoy your video. Thank you for sharing it. For me, it was the push that I needed to make a decision in favor of Ikea. So, thanks again!
Glad it was helpful!
Please pronounce Covey correctly. It’s not a long O. Think Dove-y but with a C
CORRECT . It’s pronounced KUH-VEE
Thanks for watching! I am (and was as soon as I heard the recording) aware of the audio issues. In this case, the Audio Rec Level on my Sony camera wasn't set to an ideal level for my Rode mic. And, yeah, I was lazy and didn't record a sample, take the card out, and check it in computer before starting the real recording that day. I guess I could have done it all over again once I heard it, but I didn't know at the time this video would do so well! I have plenty of videos with like 40 views, so perhaps my decision is understandable there. Also, as one might guess by the fact that I just put in this furniture, the room was still somewhat empty but I don't think that made much difference. Even now, I record in a medium sized home office, with decent equipment, a mic boomed in as close as possible out of frame (or even in frame), have added carpet, curtains, and some sound panels, and throw bedding on the other side of the room when I record, too. I've exchanged audio samples with Ali Abdaal's lead editor and equipment expert (who advised me on most my equipment). And my audio is still not great! Though better than this Ikea video, which again I had a setting set wrong. So. If anyone has advice beyond these things, please, I'm all ears! But if you're just saying "your audio is bad"... I know dude, I know.
Really great tips and tricks that are very helpful in making these difficult and time consuming decisions. Unfortunately I did miss some things that were said. In part it was the echo- but for me it was more speech which at times was fast with a fading volume. i.e ~minute 8.50. Replayed several times and could not be understood. I am mentioning this, not to criticize, but so you are aware and can be improve because your video and information is very good. Also it would be helpful to see more demonstration of the thing which you are describing. Thank you for this and I look forward to other videos.
Thank you, great info.
Shame she recorded in a room with echo. Most off putting 😮
I'm considering ordering and customizing one of these and you give here very good tips that I didn't even think about when using the planner. Don't worry about the audio, it could be better but I'm not even native and I can understand you perfectly.
Thanks for that comment about the audio 💜
Loved this video. Covey is actually pronounced Cuvey. He is an Utah native and that is how we pronounce his name.
Thank you so much!

Buy an external microphone and place it close to your mouth when recording videos. Pity, the audio spoils the good information.
The audio is not great, kind of an echo, annoying.
I love your characterization of the FC system as “mature.” That is the perfect description, as it’s so time-tested. Also, there are spiral bound and now even traveler’s notebook binding options on the Franklin Planner website - not just ringbound.
Great video! I’m considering getting back into the FC method. I used it in the late 80s/early 90s when I discovered it through one of their time management books called First Things First. btw, Covey is pronounced KUH-vee. 😉
The Franklin Covey 'system' isn't really a system but a bastardized combination of the FranklinQuest system (stolen from Charles Hobbs' 'Time Power') with its daily A-B-C prioritization and the Covey '7 Habits' weekly planning system from when the two companies merged (word is that Covey's business didn't run too great). They shoehorned some elements of Covey's system into the Franklin Planner (that is itself a copy of the Day-Planner), making up for a really weird combination.
Thanks for this! It’s nice to hear
Really enjoyed this video. I subscribed and look forward to watching others. Thanks.
Thank you so much for this comment 💜
So what I don’t get is how tasks that must be done (housework, meal planning, lesson planning, etc) are related to my values?? I mean, values or not, some things have to get done to stay afloat or to not lose one’s job,mor to not end up as a train wreck, right?
Sure! So a lot of those sound like the underlying value is providing for your family. You might go to a job you enjoy because Career is a value. Or a job you don't enjoy for Responsibility, or Financial Stability. The meal planning could be for Health/Nutrition or for Parenting/Family. Personally, I always do the bare minimum housework because providing a safe home for my children is a top ranked Value for me (Family). And then I do more and try to make our home pretty because having a home I'm proud of is also a value for me, just a lower ranked one (Beauty). Here's more info on values: blog.franklinplanner.com/ben-franklins-planning-method/ You could connect this also to the Hierarchy of Needs -- you know, first we have to make sure we have basic needs like food and shelter, then things like relationships, and at the top is meaning and creativity. That hierarchy lines up pretty well with how I order my Values. I mention the Hierarchy of Needs in my next video (will be up Friday) which is about switching back and forth between survival mode and growth mode. Hope to see you there :)
@@kait-hanrahan thank you!
Some of us do not care to do those necessary and chaos ensues but they still don’t care. I think if you do them, you don’t realize how much it is valued many you because it just that much a pare of what you value.
That’s so cute
Oh the sound what a shame
I know... I've really struggled with audio quality since moving into my home office. This video I tried some different settings and it was actually much worse. But, what can ya do? I didn't realize until it was too late. Believe it or not, I do actually have a high quality mic on a boom stand and have consulted with Ali Abdaal's editor on a few occasions to troubleshoot why it's still so bad. I've tried different mic set ups. Only thing left to try is to spray foam the whole office -- but it's a rental haha
❤
Covey is pronounced KUH-vey. 🙂 There’s also another step before identifying values and goals - developing your life mission statement. The values and goals flow from that. Franklin has a mission statement builder on their websites and in their Starter Kit inserts, and in their books.
KUH-VEE not vey
I found the Eisenhower matrix in college and it was a game changer because I thought everything was important
Re. SMART goals: the R stands for Relevant, not Realistic. I’m not quite sure how “Realistic” crept in; it is a synonym for Achievable, so would be redundant.
I’ve taken many trainings at work and elsewhere that use SMART goals, and there really is no one single definition of the acronym. I’ve noticed variation in what each letter stands for, depending on who’s doing the training. But the overall meaning is generally the same.
It looks like you filled the holes in? Any tips !? Please :)
Which holes specifically?
Permanent: Wood Filler, paint Temporary: Silicone, paint.
The content of this is good, but I wish I could hear you better.
I know! I've bough so much audio gear trying to fix this. Even spent some time on the phone with an expert. My newer videos I brought the boom in frame with the mic an inch from my mouth; that's a little better. I think I'll have to sound insulate the office walls. But that project needs buy-in from my other half :)
@@kait-hanrahanyeah the echo/reverberation is due to the sound waves bouncing off the hard surfaces in your room. I’m a singer, so I have some experience with these kinds of sound issues. 😉
Your home looks so clean and organised already, before the spring clean... :-)
Aww thanks 🥰 Still, that pile of stuff on the floor, the Easter stuff, and the CHRISTMAS cards had to go 😂
