    The secret is is to buy them at the release date at the lowest price possible you don’t need to go back and chase other sets at higher prices. If you do, the sets to buy would be evolving skies, lost origin, fusion strike from sword and shield. As for Scarlet and Violet by the cheapest ones out there right now. The best ones are Paldi evolved, surging sparks and twilight masquerade. For the least amount of risk also paradox rift is a great play. Good luck. I am a baseball card in football collector at heart. Just lost interest with too many rookie cards now trying to keep up with everything. I have over 50 Ricky HENDERSON, rookie Cards and PSA 8 or higher.

    Here is the problem. Sealed has traditionally always gone up. Singles go up and down depending on popularity and current demand. I believe vintage is going to come back. We dont know when but it is coming back. However, there is always money to be made in sealed. Most people want safer and easier investments. Vintage is unstable and you see little to no gain on most of it lately. Which also indicates that now is the absolute best time to buy. But for most people sealed is just easier and safer. Its also much more liquid than singles at any given time.

    Being a collector for over a decade. Its very hard to move graded packs especiallyif they arent psa 10s, theres only very small niche for them and 99% they are light packs which dont hold much value. If u want to buy vintage, stick with loose artsets whether its heavy or light. Me personally i look out for box breaks and get artsets unweighed 👌 that the only way ill buy vintage packs nowadays

    yeah ESPECiALLY because of your age I'd definitely look into Pokemon Rumble from 2009 - it's an easy 16 card completion and the top six or seven cards are fire! The art isn't really 8-bit - but definitely gives off a retro video game/cartoon vibe. I have a feeling it's going to pop-off soon, the Pikachu already has. not TOO much of it out there but is fairly available, just not saturated. All the best!

    Data still shows loose packs going up in price over time. Look at all of XY ERA loos packs and sun and moon. I get your point but if you need a lower entry point a loose pack is honestly fine. Singles is WAY more volatile to suggest and even in your uggested time line 5 years 1 year you have no idea with singles. Sealed and EVEN loose packs have pretty steady data

    I've been starting my own research on all of these Pokémon sets going back to Gen 1 all the way up to Gen 9 to educate myself on where the attention is and market behavior on these sets. I do think that despite Sun and Moon being a 2017 set, there will be people born around 2010 that, in maybe the 2030s, will start to long for their childhood cards or even the games being released around that time, just like how millennials like myself are nostalgic for gen 1 and gen 2 Pokémon.

  • @gregc6107

    I think surging sparks is a great play, i'm hoping i can get a couple cases at 1000 when reprints happen. I've always heard bases sets of any era is usually a weak investment and i've heard scarlet and violet base is the best base relative to all the base sets. I would probably put my money on S&V base if i was going to buy a base booster box but I don't think it's if they will go up but the velocity. I would always assume those sealed graded packs are weighed and it's a light pack a lot of people grade them just to have or sell later. Good luck on your journey i'll be holding my pokemon for 20 to 25 years also and hopefully buy some nice vacations or a nice home with it ((fingers crossed))

    Everyone has their niche but I feel like this is a bad take. I was a prime ‘99 Pokémon kid. I make plenty of money and have a completed base set but absolutely zero desire to chase 1st editions or first appearances. That’s just not a thing in Pokémon. Greninja was recently voted as this generations favorite Pokémon. Greninja’s first appearance card can be had for $1.05. The early sets were heavily printed and can be had for very cheap, still, 25 years later.

    • @collectiblesdad

    • @Ryan_Orion
      @Ryan_Orion 2 дні тому

      @@collectiblesdadyes they are also heavily printed but *without researching, it seems you have 2-7 expensive cards and the rest of the set is less than $20. Across the all sets. Base set/jungle/rocket etc, you can get any of those original holos for $20-30 still. Very little price fluctuation overall. It’s not my niche and I could certainly be wrong but I just don’t see first appearance as anything Pokemon people talk about.

      ya, I guess if the live shopping thing chills out a bit I'd be more in line with your pov. Honestly, it depends on the booster box as well. For example, would I rather pay $5 a pack for Silver Tempest (36 packs for $180) or get a Booster box for $240? I'd probably rather have the box. I think the point is that the pack is going to come closer to the booster box than ever before. In some sets, we've already seen that movement. So, if you can find a set where it hasn't, then that's a decent buy.

    Your speculation about vintage Pokemon singles being a better option over modern long term is somewhat flawed. Have you ever gone to a card show? Most if not all of kids that will be adults in 20 years are not interested in vintage. And therefor, most likely will not interested in vintage 20 years from now. It's almost the same with sports cards (though I've seen more kids interested in vintage sports cards than I see kids interested in vintage Pokemon cards). Almost always, kids these days are more interested in modern cards verses their vintage counterparts. In regards to scanning and even weighing packs, neither can guarantee a high dollar card. With scanning, it can possibly determine if there is a holo rare or better in the pack. But at the same time, a lot of holos aren't even worth 25 cents. And that's why most collectors have yet to be affected by scanning packs (and some sealed collectors just want sealed packs to display - and can be a big attention getter depending on the set and rarity - as they are not planning on opening it). My guess is that as time goes on (if not very soon), packs that are both scanned positively and that are of significant weight will fetch a premium over market over those that are not. And you're not "seeing the forest for the trees" when it comes to singles verses sealed booster packs. If you were to ask Alex, I'm pretty sure that he would tell you that on average the singles inside a pack are almost never worth what the market price is of a pack. And in that sense, it's always better to keep the pack sealed. Granted, when wanting a specific card, it's always better to just buy the card than to try and open it from a pack, but that's not the point here. Sealed product will almost always increase value whether or not the singles do. Because as time goes on and with everyone opening packs, there will always be more single cards and less and less sealed products and packs. There is data that backs that up, but it's really just common sense.

    • @collectiblesdad
      @collectiblesdad 3 дні тому

      Appreciate your feedback, and completely understand your thought process. Until we came up across tech like CT scanning, many sports card collectors could rest easy buying and holding modern sealed product. Now, CT scanning can see expensive 1/1's, autos etc in boxes and packs which adds risk to this side of sports card speculation. Modern pokemon cards don't face these same challenges because there are no serial numbered cards and price points for new pokemon sets are reasonable and not $1000+ per box on release like sports cards in many cases. We don't agree on vintage for this simple fact. I was the kid in 1990 that only cared about 1989 pro set/Score football cards and finding Barry Sanders etc and didn't give a thought to vintage Jim Brown cards. The 'youth of the day' are always going to focus on modern players in sports cards, but the real 'investing/speculation' opportunity back then was buying vintage sports cards and sitting on them (or vintage packs/boxes) etc. Pokemon is only 25 years old and there will be a next generation that 'hits their mid life crisis lol' like me and looks back at the original sets. The serious sports card long term 'investing money' is in Honus Wagner, Babe Ruth, Jim Brown, Wilt Chamberlain, Bill Russell, Mickey Mantle etc, not in Luka Doncic. But we'll see. It could also be that the pokemon card market acts differently than other collectibles markets, nobody knows for sure

    • @thomas_o
      @thomas_o 3 дні тому

      @@collectiblesdad Maybe I misunderstood, but I never mentioned anything about CT scanning, as I was under the assumption you were referring to metal detector scanning as that seemed what you were referring to and that has been discussed more recently over CT scanning. What I was trying to get at is that the metal detector scanning could possibly affect modern sealed Pokemon products in a positive way (specifically loose packs). Also, I never mentioned anything about sealed sports products, only Pokemon cards and its sealed products which is what I thought this channel was directed towards more, while your other channel is directed more towards sports. The comparison I used to describe how most kids these days want modern sports cards was to help you understand why now, and most likely in the future, the grown up Pokemon collectors of tomorrow won't care about buying vintage Pokemon cards whether for investing, collecting, or otherwise (see my second to last paragraph for more on that). In regards to vintage sports cards, I'm pretty sure I have more years experience with you on that as well. As I was collecting George Brett rookies in the late 70's (I lived near Kansas City at the time, so it makes sense I was after his cards). So, yes I'm old. I remember the card boom of the early 80's, the card boom of around 1990, and the last card boom of around 1999 when I was setting up at card shows (for me the card booms happened about every ten years, except during the last recession). I've been into trading cards for close to 50 years. And that includes, sports, non-sports, and gaming. The reason I do more Pokemon than sports now is because of how bad I got burned during the last card boom with sports cards and how I've never seen anything like Pokemon before (but I do still collect cards of specific athletes). History is "almost" repeating itself for most everything collectible related, except for Pokemon. (And yes, I was buying, selling, trading Pokemon cards during the card boom of around 1999.) Also, you're somewhat wrong about the investors/speculators of the last card boom of 1990, as investors/speculators were paying a lot of money for the 1989 UD Ken Griffey Jr RC. I bet you probably don't even know who the "Baseball Card Kid" was. You should look him up and do some research on him as I believe you would find it enlightening. When it comes to vintage Pokemon it's not the same as vintage sports. We can disagree all day, but the data and previous/current experience sides with my point(s). If you look at the people buying vintage Pokemon, it's almost always because they have some sort of connection to it (and/or memory of it). There's actually a recent video where some guys went walking around a bigger card show with a vintage Pokemon Illustrator (I think it was a Japanese Illustrator card or something similarly valuable) and an Evolving Skies Moonbreon and they asked kids which card they preferred. Every kid said they preferred the Moonbreon (the Moonbreon is one of the most valuable modern Pokemon cards). The kids didn't care that the vintage card was probably worth ten to hundred times more than Moonbreon and I'm pretty sure they won't 20 years from now as it won't mean anything to them. And thank you for not deleting my comment as there are quite a few people who would rather just delete my comment then have an engaging discussion.

There are some good points here. But the problem with vintage Pokemon now versus where we were in 2020 is that the cards are about as liquid as jello. You may make some gains, but finding a buyer for a PSA 10 Gyarados Holo from Skyridge that you may have is a lot harder than selling more modern cards that people actually that have much larger buyer pools.

      Yea i agree, but things always change, when vintage was going crazy in 2020, modern pokemon was dead af. Maybe because all those sets were lackluster, but the only products that did gains was evolutions boxes.

    I can tell you what you are missing. Gambling. They want the scratch off with a bigger top prize. When they can’t find that then they all get salty and just start finger pointing not knowing they’re all just gambling addicts.

    More is being printed but it also take hell of a lot more packs to rip through to get modern day chase cards. Wotc era was a holo that was 1 in 3 packs

    what in the absolute ballsack are you talking about! $400-$450 a box is ok to you? excuse me? thats not ok at all, it prices out most peoples wallets and what most moms and dads are willing to pay when it comes to single pack prices. Please if this space is not yours then dont come in thinking you know anywhere near enough to speak on it. if your rich enough or well off enough that $90 base price boxes feel low to you then just buy vintage and keep your mouth shut. also scalppers are absolutly a fking problem. just went out today to try and find some prismatic for my kids and when i say it was all gone withen a 100 mile radius i mean it, gone, gone, gone, gone everywhere i went, gone. this isnt supposed to be some exclusive little club that rich people and wealthy peoiple who can go out and buy all they want or sit online and buy it all up, this is pokemon its for everybody and this is completley wrong, your wrong! and anyone who agrees with you is wrong along with all the people who are making this seem like its normal.

    I don't like 3 pack blisters because they are always bent to hell. I like sleeves because they look clean and can collect all the pack arts personally.

      3 pack blisters sell at a premium in the later stages of a sets lifespan. When packs start going for over 500 bucks per, the 3 pack blisters are the only thing that really sell. Gonna be pretty hard to sell a 25k booster box. Sleeved packs are cool, but if u really think about it, they can easily be tampered with, opend them up, and glue them back up, and even the sharpest eyes wont be able to tell..

    I bought my first vintage Pokémon shadowless card in a PSA slab back during the holidays and I'm definitely looking to add more to my collection. I've got a few local card shows coming up this spring and I'm definitely going to be on the lookout for early Pokémon singles.

    I understand your point completely in today’s world however I just bought a bunch of Fusion and Origin packs from a lgs I trust 100%. He’s a sports card guy and could care less about Pokémon. Broke down boxes when they didn’t sell. I ONLY collect sealed and don’t care what’s in the pack. When I go to sell them someone will get nice unmessed with packs….

    When you buy the blisters make sure to buy the ones with the popular eevee promos. Not the ice cube Pokémon. The umbreon three pack blister is around 100 on eBay right now and the other around 70-80.
