    Wouldn't surprise me if many of those ungraded keys were actually graded before but came back with undesirable/unprofitable grades and thus cracked and selling as overpriced raws.

    There are a huge number of random rare Golden Age books, but you can also buy a bunch of it for next to nothing. Its only big keys, certain artists, or certain niches that are big dollars in Golden Age. Heroes Con was legit, always my favorite show and well worth traveling across the country to experience it.

    Would love to see you do a video on Golden Age census, but keep in mind that a lot of UA-camrs and 'investors' moved all of their money and inventory into those items after they saw Silver and newer prices plummet. So expect to get a lot of "just because Batman #1 is auctioned off every month at increasing frequency does not negate the fact that I put my life's savings into it and was the wisest decision I made since backing FTX...". Just prepping you, also was at Heroes Con on Saturday and the crowd felt much smaller than 2023 but heard them say it was a record so...

    2 "established" collectible markets (over 100 years old) are coins and paper currency. They're not as cool or popular, but they hold their value and more if you're in it for the long term and have some money to play with ($1500 or more)

    Sure there's a lot of ungraded books, but dealers want the graded price for the raw stuff

    I think dealers have shifted into bringing more raw books to shows lately bc that's what people want. Especially with all the cgc shenanigans.

    When you analyze GA make sure you look at long term trends, it has grown steadily and I don’t see any evidence that it will decline in the future.

    Honestly it's just easier to move raw books then graded books right now. Thats what the majority of collectors want righr now in todays market

    Comics, like cards, fall into a "mature" collectible category... Will they still command thousands of dollars or more 25 or 40 years from now? There's no guarantee. However, if new generations of people get into the comic hobby AND the comic characters remain relevant in the zeitgeist, there's still hope. In sports cards, there's a strong argument that sports are always a part of the culture. Football seems to have the best long term staying power because it is so popular. Baseball, unless it is Shohei Ohtani, continues to decline.

    You say the same thing in nearly every video. If comic book collecting makes you this twitchy, maybe it's not worth "investing" in it. Do you buy trading cards as an investment or do you buy them because you love collecting them???? Are all your cards valueable or do you have a load of cool looking cheap stuff as well??? My guess is that you are a collector... In which case, treat comics the same as you do cards - Buy what you know and like, don't get caught up in FOMO, don't spend money you can't afford to lose and have fun doing it. 😊
    I know very little about cards, but my guess is that like comics there must be a huge number of ungraded cards available on the market that are of "key" significance but are just not of a high enough quality that people want to grade or can see the benefit/profit from grading..... comics are no different... I'm also going to bet that the census of graded trading cards increases over time the same as the comic book ones do. You don't seem worried about that with cards, so why should comics concern you so much??

    Otherwise, park your xtra money into a Vanguard S&P 500 index fund... You WILL LIKELY double your money in 10 year (at a rate of 8-10% per year). Not as fun as comics though, right?🤣😂🤣... Spend responsibly, or not

    I wouldn't call most of those raw books, "keys". And certainly not BIG KEYS. How many of the REAL big keys like AF15, TOS39, Hulk 1, FF1 did you see raw at the show? They do exist raw obviously, but they aren't just falling out of the sky.
    Golden age is no different than SA in that there are big keys, and random smaller books. The difference is that most of the BIG KEYS in GA are classic cover driven as opposed to first appearance based in the SA; especially since the first appearance GA keys (AC1, Tec 27, Marvel 1, CAp 1) are out of reach for most collectors. GA books have such a small census (most GA books have less than 100 copies on census) that all you need is a couple of extra participants every year to push up prices. Punch 12, Fantastic Comics 3, Suspense Comics 3, Silver Streak 6, etc don't just grow on trees. Those are truly scarce and held tightly by collectors. Sure, if you're talking about random Catman book or even a random Superman book, then I agree that they are vulnerable like anything else.

    • @Levicrush
      @Levicrush 4 місяці тому

      @@DanSchawbel it depends what is meant by “keys”. If you’re referring to anything from the Bronze Age to modern, I agree. Tons raw in the wild. SA blue chip keys, while also readily available, are not as plentiful raw at shows. I’m talking af15, hulk 1, ff1. Xmen 1 and asm1 are a lot more common.

    • @DanTheCardMan2
      @DanTheCardMan2 4 місяці тому +1

      Dustin is talking about it from a modern perspective. This amount of raw books is nothing new, anyone that’s been around the space for a long time knows this. Same when it comes to designation of keys.

      Where will the demand for Golden Age books come from in 10, 15, 20+ years? Millennials, Gen-Z? They are more into anime, manga, Pokémon, and TikTok. I am 55 years old and do not remember any of those GA books. I read Claremont/Byrne’s X-Men run and Miller’s DD run growing up. My kids like the MCU/DCU movies but do not want to read comic books. These true GA collectors now are 60+ years old but their kids and grand kids do not want their GA books, sad but facts.
