Why I Don't Recommend Windshield Protection Film (HDR 60p)

In this video, I share my experience with windshield protection film on my Tesla Model Y. If you own a Tesla or any car, you might be considering this type of protection to avoid windshield chips and cracks. Spoiler alert: I do not recommend it, and here's why. From initial installation issues like the orange peel distortion to long-term problems such as scratches from windshield wipers, I'll s...
How to remove window tint by yourself
Переглядів 2,6 тис.6 місяців тому
A quick tutorial on how I removed window tint from one of my car windows. The passenger side window was replaced after a smash and grab, so I needed to make the driver's side window match. I was trading in the car, so it didn't matter to me if it was tinted or not.

    I appreciate you going through the effort of setting up the mattress while ‘stealth camping’ in the Model Y. I’ve seen multiple reviews of this product, and it feels like this is the most genuine and in-depth. Kudos to you sir 🫡

    Most of the products I've seen are self-healing. I have installed some of my car and yes it's a little bit different to look out of but I'm not used to it yet. If I can do something to prevent replacing another windshield I'm willing to deal with it for a year or so.

    Nice video. Next trip I will use your tips. Question about destination chargers, you are not sure if a charger will be available as they could be occupied by other guests, correct ? Edited:- I am trying Plugshare for the first time but don't see two types of Tesla plugs like you. Maybe doing something wrong.

    Don't these protection films have self healing properties? And, as another commenter said, a ceramic coating will make it more slippery therefore will reduce scratches. Whatever minor scratches are left will disappear under self healing.

    Can a charger at a destination hotel be reserved?

    • @SuperchargedTravels
      @SuperchargedTravels 27 днів тому

      I’ve never seen that. In the more luxury hotels they will have the valet manage the charging. You simply tell them when you expect to need the car again and they take care of it. This is a good thing as people themselves are not good at leaving a charger when they are done using it.

    Well darn, I was hoping to hear better things about windshield protection. I bought a used 1995 Lexus LS 400 in great shape except the windshield was pitted and had one chip that had been repaired. Less than 3 weeks ago, a rock hit the windshield on the highway and before I even got home, the crack traveled from the top to the bottom of the windshield. Insurance covered the replacement, but yesterday it got struck again. I was lucky, except today, yet another rock hit, and this time, I wasn't lucky. Small chip and the start of a crack. Immediately had it repaired for almost $200 today. I can't keep using insurance to replace it, so what options do I have? I don't think changing my route to use back roads and add an extra 30 min commute is the answer.

    I am paying much higher insurance now because I had to replace two windshields on two cars in 5 years in South Carolina. No deductible though! Both were claims exceeding $1000 and both are on my record for 7 years counting as high cost claims. The increase in insurance is higher than if I had gotten a DUI. Absolutely insane and inexplicable to me since both were caused by events beyond my control.

    I have exoshield windshield film on my model 3. I have zero distortion or orange peels on my film. After 2 years of use, I don’t have significant scratches on the film because I applied high grade ceramic coating on it and I use a silicone wiper. There are some scratches from the installation process, but ceramic coating was able to minimize the appearance of some of the scratches. I would rather deal with the imperfections of windshield films than to deal with glass replacement every few years.

    • @hammertimee777
      @hammertimee777 3 місяці тому

      I also have the same product on my model Y. Again, it’s not perfect, but I rather replace the film every 4-5 years rather than replacing the windshield.
