SF70 - Is this NZ's best track??? We go on another adventure to our favourite playground. Good food, camps, epic tracks and one awesome way to end ours.... By watching the latest episode of 4WD24/7 in the bush, off a projector, on a bonnet around a campfire... Now, if this doesn't get the blood pumping then you need to check your pulse!

We venture into the Wellington forest guided by Jeff Whitehead. This amazing forest will leave you speechless with all the magestic scenery. There is anything from scenic driving to hard core comp truck tracks in this forest. Well worth exploring when in the Wellington region. Definitely be back to explore the other 14800 hectares

Odlins Track - Wellington 2024
Переглядів 6 тис.5 місяців тому
Odlins track has got to be one of our top 3 tracks in New Zealand so far. You don't drive more than 5 minutes and you hit obstacles. This track is not for beginners or anyone without some sort of recovery gear and mates. Odlins if full of off cambered, cross axle, rutted rocky climbs to the top with a few shallow bogs and views that will blow your mind. This track can change instantly when wet ...

Where is this place, cant find it on maps?
@@epposcrap Waiotauru (Odlins) Rd. (Carpark to Summit) Google that mate. Should be able to find it on overland navigator
Awesome video thanks Don
Cheers brother 🤘
You guys timed the snow perfectly! When I went up to Tukino it was bone dry.
@@forester_overland_nz mate, was awesome but we were expecting way more snow. Saw on the snow cams it was a decent amount but not the case lol. When did you go?
@@limitlessevolutionnz 29-30 Aug. Will try again next winter lol
Where are those tracks i would like to give them ago cheers
@@shaniadouglas2334 I would also like to know where the track is.
Waipakihi Road
what tyres are on the blue Pajero? Look at bit like Nankang Conqueror MT1. Was considering a set and wondered what you thought of them as a weekender offroad tyre? Not to be daily driven.
@@SouthlandFlyer hey mate. Good spotting. It's is exactly those tyres. The Nankangs are really good. I rate them hey. We have driven far distances, fully loaded, and wheeled with them and not a drop of issues. Good value for money I reckon
@@limitlessevolutionnz Thank you.
Another epic trip with a great bunch of people. Next time, I will definitely swim :-)
It's interesting to see how the gladiator goes, I was expecting it to not perform as good with the long wheel base, I'm presuming it's the Rubicon?
@@speedbagwizard9880 the jeep in the video is a Jeep Brut AEV with a supercharger. What a weapon mate, it outperformed all the vehicles there on the day. Definitely go with Jeep, or... A Landcruiser 🤣
@@limitlessevolutionnz I'm very interested in seeing it, as a super charger is definitely on the list, as I really wasn't impressed with the stock power on my wrangler
What lift does the gladiator have?
It's the Brut AEV spec Jeep on 37's
@@limitlessevolutionnz ffs now I need to increase my budget even bloody more 😂 just read up on the AEV conversion
@@speedbagwizard9880 the upgrades never end
Can't wait to see the end result
Definitely no for a shiny. Looks good fun all the same . Thanks for the video 👍👍👍👍🍺🍺🍺🍺
@@gregreed402 agreed on the shiny part lol. It's a pic your own adventure playground. Thanks for the comment 😁🤙 Hoping to go back there for some new footage
Great video and good to see sensible driving. Your terrain is very much like ours here in Tasmania.
@@Gu_Gus thanks mate. Although there's some drama in our videos we always take safety as a first make calls before anything bad happens. We would love to wheel in Tasmania. We have watched quite a few videos of 4wd24/7 where they wheel in Tasmania and it looks awesome
We did this track last year October and it wasn’t this bad lol but it is a fun exciting track
@@Silvvy_N80 It is such a good track and the ruts have become a lot deeper than when we were last there too. We are about to release part 2 this weekend. It gets worse lol
@@limitlessevolutionnzI also drowned my n80 in there too lol good fun that was
How long did it take 1 way mate?
@@andrewmeybaum8044 All depends on how many vehicles you go with but I'd say you can probably finish the track comfortably in about 5 hours and that's exploring the side missions too
Dead keen to join you guys one day! Great video...
Cheers mate🤙 Glad You're enjoying our content, reach out on the FB group and we can organize something 😁 We generally do a trip every month
Can't wait to see what happens in the next episode. Great video!
Are seatbelts not a thing over there or something? Ha! 😏 Umm also , recently learning about how different drive trains work and what not was a big help on understanding more on tyre placement and ambition over ability!
@@RepLicanT00100 hahaha yeah mate seatbelts are a thing over here, it just depends on the obstacle for us really. If you're between 2 banks and not going anywhere I prefer not having it on for a quicker escape just in case something happens, a sketchy rock climb along an edge, definitely 😁 Tyre placement is key but you don't always have a choice lol. What the Pajero needs is a locker or 2 and it will do almost anything
Bloody awesome video guys. Not as good as being there, but a really good reflection of the fun everyone was having.
@@johnandgracevideos Thanks John, was another epic adventure with you and Grace. Looking forward to many more muddy adventures 😜 😁
Awesome 👍👍👍
@@garethraven3933 cheers mate 🤘
Is that a bruiser conversion jk or is it a AEV converted jk? I really like the look of the jk early gladiators conversions. Maybe a walk around of the rig would be awesome!
Hey mate, apologies for the late reply, was getting all the info first: AEV brute factory manufactured conversion pre registration. Sprintex Supercharger system on the penstar big block V6, dyno tuned (on 35"s) and mapped for 420hp at the wheels. Upgraded drivetrain to match, Bita chrome in the mix as well as heavy duty driveshafts front and rear. Factory registration (no certificate needed) 37"s tyres on 17" alloy rim's. Just installed new front and rear winch setup with seperate duel battery (2x additional 100ah 1000cca batteries) winch power pack with full remote isolation and charge system, as well as a 260amp alternator to help keep up. Lots more on the list to be added in future including possible wrapping to give it some extra bling.. and a bunch of little things that are to many to add.
In our upcoming episodes we will do a weapon review with Jono 💪
@@limitlessevolutionnz whaaaat, sounds amazing
Gutted, that tracks rooted now 😭😭 Used to be a nice day out with the kids and some awesome views at the top.
Agreed. Such a shame eh
Hey mate awesome track. Im abit clueless and just wondering how youd pkssibly break a cv? Is it because of the increased travel in modified suspension
@@Extremefishingnz cheers mate. the modified suspension will put the CV's on more of an angle, putting more stress on it. That added with spinning wheels & bouncing, as soon as it lands and grips, that's your CV most likely deleted. OEM CV's are best, they last longer
@limitlessevolutionnz ah ok makes sense. Thanks for the info bro. Looking at putting muddies on my rav4
This use to be a 2wd track the whole way to the hut. This tracks ruined
Use to be able to get to hut in 40min in my mistral, the track is fucked and now requires atleast an hour of solid winching. The road needs serious work, but DOC doesnt want to know about it
@@JesseTraill I've never done the track but to me it looks like there is way too much water on the track. The local clubs or groups like this need to get up there and cut that water off the track and within a summer it would improve the trails conditions hugely. continuing like this and it will be like the Thompsons track in no time.
Not enough tracks , too much pressure , muppets chewing it up more in the wet …… , no one stopping and draining the water…… little wonder we have lost most of the North Island tracks ….
@@jonohitchcox6433 there use to be culverts along the track in 20 years I never had an issue even during heavy rain or snow. Then people started coming up and ripping it up. Look at the other clips on UA-cam from 10 years ago. This has only become a recent issue. Past the hut it use to be the worst where the culverts had blown out. The tracks ruined from people wheel spinning because they're in the wrong gear or their Tyre pressure isn't right. Half these drivers are laughing as they're fanging it, not thinking that every time someone does it makes the track more mushy. The track never even use to be that steep, where the "gunshot" is there was a slight gradient and it had a culvert there....now it's undriverable for 95% of vehicles. Pretty selfish if you ask me, why would doc fix it when people will just continue to wreck it? Hopefully they lock the Gate and it just reverts back to bush. People can go to north range road and ruin that more, even that's buggered from 25 years ago when I first went over it.
@@heybra8941 I think a you just need a rock crawler bro, be happy then 😊
That is one mean track! On the side note, your new rear bumper is 💪🏼

@@forester_overland_nz anytime, glad I could help 😂😂
nice video can't wait to hit the track in a few weeks.
Thanks 👌 You guys and girls will love it. Epic adventure!
how do you access this?
You need to contact the CVCC club in Wellington to access the Akatarawa forest tracks
@@limitlessevolutionnz cheers mate
Swear it wasn’t that long ago you could get up there in a stock truck 😅
We grew up drivn a fwd mitzi sigma up there.. no ya cant evn get a quad up there .. some people wanna floor these grubs for what they have done .. cos no no1 can get up there to gather there kai . Its only a matter of time b4 parths r crossed .. promus.. people r SPEWING on this . Poor them when that day comes rnd 😂 they be shittn
Then you get knobs like these guys rip it up and it's already stuffed access for a lot of us then will be shut by council next
Another track trashed by 4wds.
Because you can clearly see the 4wd's absolutely tearing the track up in this video 😂 Have a look at the video again, we respect the track, even helped shape it back to a more acceptable standard, we go in with empty bags, pick up other peoples rubbish, we don't sit there for 10mins spinning wheels because we can, we use winches, we dont chop trees down or damage the vegetation. Think before you speak 👍
If all 4x4 users respect all tracks like Limitless Evolution 4x4 there will be no problems! Well done Limitless Crew for making a difference 👏
@@limitlessevolutionnz I think what he's getting at is the track is trashed (compared to what it was like,) not you trashed it specifically. Could be beneficial for everyone to have the track rehabilitated and then close to 4x4 over the wetter months like the 42nd and Whangamonoa for example. You guys are responsible drivers, but to take a quote even directly from this video “Lightest smallest tires in the front… If I dig a rut you two will bottom out on it” is rather telling. I totally get 4x4's want to go out and have fun, but sometime it does wreak it for the other ULR users.
@@toymotor86 The way you have explained it makes perfect sense and if the the sentence had been worded something like this it wouldn't be taken out of context. And you're right, the tracks should be closed over winter to preserve them like the ones you have mentioned. Takapari for some unknown reason is still open over winter and we could have gone there but decided to go with another track where damage is minimal. We honestly try our best to keep the track in a better condition than what we find it. Thing is, you take all the 4wd access tracks out, what's left? The only 4wd park there is seems to be in Auckland. Benefits some, not all. Maybe we need another 4wd park between BOP & Wellington?
@@limitlessevolutionnzyes that's a hard nut to crack for sure, and everyone should be able to get out and live a little! I guess having areas suitable for different purposes would be the way to go. A main track not gentrified but not able to be gnarled as to sustain general access so dude in his Nav can go for a hunt for example. Have iide tracks/climbs/loops for thouse to test skills. Hardest part would be convincing DOC and use of funds. It does work well in the Pureora Forest. Different areas for different activity's. There is a dedicated 4x4 park to rip, shit and bust, tracks for quads and motorbikes, trails for cyclists and areas where horses arnt allowed to minimise clashing. For a start I would like more ULR having their padlocks removed as thst would instantly spread the "load" amoungst he tracks so it wasn't intensified to a small number if tracks. Unfortunately the opposite is happening., more gates are being locked The Ruahines itself is an example of that.
How good's the SWB Gen2!
Thanks mate, would you like to see a rig rundown in the next episode? There's a few cheeky mods in the shorty 💪
@@limitlessevolutionnz 100% mate! Should def get a Auto lokka in the front, i can certain vouch for them in a Pajero Gen3
@ScottMitchellMedia we have spoken about the front auto lokka and although it's an awesome product we cat decide if the pros outweigh the cons. What's your thoughts?
@@limitlessevolutionnz I'm thoroughly enjoying the Lokka, haven't had an issue with it, the instructions were a little vague, but it works amazing. Just having drive in the front wheels make such a huge difference, especially when we know how much pajeros love to lift wheels
Pajero means wanker in spanish
Awesome party during the night totally kiwi style 👍👍👍
Good to see the hut is still in good nick.
Idiots can't drive up it now😂😂
This is one of the best once yet! Thank you Limitless for another great trip and thank you Green submarine for....let's say....f#@# mud shower :-)
Would this be suitable for beginners? Ive done red rocks
100% this area is a pick your own adventure from easy to hard stuff. There are Rangers that lead groups into the forest and they will be able to suggest the best places to wheel. Speak to Jeff Whitehead. He should be able to help
Looks like it was a great day out!
Was this with one of the cvcc clubs?
Yeah mate
The clip of the night run doesn't do it justice, it was over a hour, of rough roads, completed at a reasonable speed. I had a sore neck by the end of it! Good fun even if I had to jump in some else rig dor the day due to a snapped cv
Ah mate, 100%. Never looks as hectic on the videos. But it was quite rough, going thru deep ruts at a reasonable pace. Epic trip mate, looking forward to the next
Looks amazing. I'd love to join in on one of these trips.
Where you based Danie?
@@limitlessevolutionnz I'm in Upper Hutt
Hi Danie. Just letting you know that we have a trip coming up on Kings Bday weekend. If you want to join us on this trip contact us through the Limitless Evolution FB page. This is a closed event so pls be discreet. Thanks mate
You be changing some wheel bearings soon ppphheewww
You're not wrong lol
Can one camp on this track ? Is there flat areas to camp ?
Apologies for the late response mate, yep, you can camp on the track but the only flat camp spots are at the summit and by the hut. Getting to the hut is difficult. The track is chewed out. I would walk that first before you venture down there
I'm amazed at how bad the condition of that road is now compared to when I used to drive my 1963 Morris 1100 in there about 53 years ago. That was my favourite place to go to, to get away from Wellington city. I used to drive all the way to the shelter shed and the old wooden log bridge across the Waiotauru River. The road wasn't overgrown with vegetation, as I see it is now.
Do you have any photos of what it used to look like?
Was steve Burd one of your mates going up there?
@@limitlessevolutionnz No I'm afraid not; I didn't have a camera then and of course mobile phones weren't invented until many decades later.
@@anthonyholmes3569 No, I always went by myself.
Always maintain that safe distance....indeed...kinda hoped it wouldn't have been on camera but oh well
Hey mate, was conflicted about adding it but in the end thought it's better so people can see that even above the vehicle is probably not safe either. And, the wheel lift in that was just epic! As long as you enjoyed it, that's all that matters. No one got hurt and that's the aim of the game. Have fun but everyone goes home safe
...and the price for most amount of wheel lifts go too.....
Hahahahaha no Pajeros were harmed in the making of this video
