I'm repeating a previous video about dyeing a striped silk scarf as I left out some important details in that video about setting and rinsing the scarves - I'm also adding another tray dyeing method for creating a beautiful marbled effect. Can you tell silk from polyester? Over my years of selling at markets I've come to realize that many people don't know that silk can come in many different types of fabric and that indeed, 'crepe' and 'chiffon' and 'satin' are weaves, not fibres and were originally woven in silk. For my popular ‘crinkle’ scarves I use a direct application of Fiber Reactive Dyes to create blending colourful stripes. This is the first stage of painting on a silk chiffon scarf. I'm using a direct painting technique, that is without any gutta or resist. It's very free and wide open to whatever design you want.
