What type of gold fish are these?
@@larryhenry719 They are called sarasa goldfish, which is basically just a color difference from the common goldfish.
After days/weeks of researching this video was excatly what I needed to see. Thank you.
Glad you liked it. Dirt planted tanks are great fun.
It looks like a very nice tank start. You should consider blacking out the back of tank or something. The fish color will POP like fireworks. This is the next species on my list for 2025. I am going to try to establish a breeding colony.
@@rct6518 thanks. I’m looking forward to breeding them.
Why didn't you add more different kind of fish
@@constantvanlife Hi there. They get so big and are so amazing that I didn’t need anything else with them.
Can I add seachem prime to water when first using eco complete planted substrate?
@@bobbyfelix1827 Yes, that’s what I use.
Very informative, thank you. And, as you said at the end of your video, it does beg the question of quarantining being 100% the best idea.
@@LushSaltyAquariums Thanks. Yeah I never quarantined my salt water fish, but it seems freshwater fish are more susceptible so it’s a tough call.
Cheers from my fish room channel in Chicago, where I am a subscriber to yours! I keep these lovely Rainbows in my largest display tank as well. crowd pleasers for sure!
@@LushSaltyAquariums Thanks. Love your videos. Can’t wait until they start breeding.
Cool tank bro
Thanks it’s been a lot of fun.
Goldfish prefer ponds ☝️ An aquarium is like living in a closet
Yeah it would be great to have a big fish pond for when the common goldfish get to full size.
Lovely tanks lovely setup and fishes ❤

I got four Bosmani Rainbows but they are still juveniles. But they still exhibit this exact type of behavior. Such fun fish to keep. Mine love all the attention that they get and live with 5 yoyo loaches and a small group of guppies and get along great with everyone.
@@danielingalls8980 Sounds like they will keep the guppies from over populating the tank. Mine go crazy when I put baby brine shrimp in.
@@andrewgoldfish Yeah dude the guppies came from my neighbor when the ones that she had spawned a large number of fry. Eventually the Bosmani Rainbows are going to be in my 40 breeder tank with a group of Australian Rainbow fish once they come out of the 29 gallon. But for now they are growing out nicely.
@@danielingalls8980 Good to hear.
Just got 9 and I can’t wait until they get this big
@@gr_aquatics Welcome to the pseudos club. What are you feeding yours?
@@andrewgoldfish I feed them the north fin food, cichlid flakes, community pellets, bug bites and frozen blood worm and brine shrimp. They mainly eat the crushed flakes at this point but they are in my community takes so it get varied food.
@@gr_aquatics Nice.
Beautiful fish and great video

I’ve had both experiences with they jump and down, but typically they’re pretty good. Great video by the way love the content.
@@gr_aquatics Thanks. I’m amazed at how bright their colors are already. I’m starting to feel more confident they won’t jump out but still going to keep the lid for now.
yes the legs are upsidedown
@@adelinawarriner6259 That’s what I thought. Easier to fit in the box I guess.
a floating mop in the tank will get you eggs you can remove every day , replace with another mop
@@anotherslave3302 Thanks. I’m looking forward to trying this out. It looks more challenging than breeding my goldfish.
100% of my goldfish who got swim bladder problems were skimming from the top of the water all the time. I'm not saying that is the only thing causing it, but I'm very certain that's what caused mine. In fact, I would cringe seeing one do it, because I knew shortly after that they'd be floating upside down, either temporarily or permanently. It was like clockwork.
@@HAL-dm1eh Sorry to hear that. I’ve always tried to sink all their food, well except for the duckweed I guess.
I just got 3. I have a total of 26 in a 270 gallon tank. Yours are stunning. Mine are pretty pale still. I have mine in with 6 giant fancy goldfish. I can’t wait for them to grow up! Your tank is beautiful!!
@@GenRN Thanks. I’m surprised at how bright their colors are at this size. Wow a 270 tank is huge.
Add cories they will eat the worms and control the population.

Are you a follower of Father Fish or is this the Walstead method? I will check out the island video for reference. Good to know where the plants are from, nice shout out. I love rainbowfish, I'm happy to see a large set up for them ❤
@@severedvibrations1211 Thanks. When I first setup my dirt planted goldfish tank 11 years ago I was watching Dustin’s Fishtanks and had just read the Walstead book. So it’s kind of a combo of those.
@andrewgoldfish I like the soil/dirt method. I've not had an opportunity to do a long term set up with these techniques so it's good to see them used in your set up
You should get a few neocaridina shrimp, they come in more colours and are almost as hardy as the amano shrimps. The red, orange or yellow ones would match your goldfishes haha.
@@jasontan7523 I’ve been thinking the same thing. Never had shrimp before so it’ll be interesting.
Cheers from my fish room channel in Chicago, where I'm happy to subscribe to yours. Dwarf Neon rainbows would be great in that tank. Also, a lid isn't critical for amano shrimp. i have dozens in all my open tanks. maybe one jumper in 2 years. happy fishkeeping new friend!
@LushSaltyAquariums Thanks. I totally agree. Some blue eye rainbows would look great in there as well 😉
Tanks evolve
@@Heidi.lin...69 they do indeed.
I love your old videos so looking forward to more. Do you still have the comets?
@@Ceretrea Thanks! I had the three red and white common goldfish for five years and I’ve had my current ranchus for six years now.
It’s harder for me too to treat freshwater fish for me than saltwater fish.
@@jackiekearney other than needing to mix the salt I think saltwater fish can be easier to keep in some ways if you stick to the more hardy types.
Can we get update on giant hygro?
@@Batmancontingencyplans hygrophilas are still about the same size. They grow well floating but so far slow growth while planted. I’m wondering if I got a smaller variety. I might try some root tabs.
May I ask do you put rocks in prior to the Fluval? Or you can put rocks on top of the fluval?
@@doug9116 I put the volcanic rocks on top of the Fluval. But you could also put it underneath as long as you don’t have fish who would move the clay balls around.
@@andrewgoldfish thanks so much!
@@doug9116 you’re welcome
I bought a house in April that came with a bunch of comet goldfish in a pond. Small ones, big ones, fancy tailed ones. So I learned about fish keeping. Then I wanted an aquarium, so I got a free 10 gallon from a friend. Used my pond goldfish to cycle the tank with plants and realized goldfish are jerks with plants. lol So now I have a dwarf neon blue gourami and 6 cherry barbs. I put those gold fish back in the pond. LOL
@@Blakhawk1703 yeah goldfish love plants but plants don’t love goldfish 😀

@@spiritualsaggi6297 Yes I watched a couple, but I’m not sure if he keeps goldfish or not. I liked his story of keeping a tiny fish in a jar as a kid.
Hope the gravel over the sand works! in my goldfish tank the only thing planted on the sand is Crinum and I placed some rocks around it so that the goldfish wouldn’t dig it out and it works pretty well but I see my sand moving as time passes except for that part where the crinum is. Also that happened to my Anubias too when I spray them with excel to get rid of hair algae and they died back and sprouted new leaves again.
@@skyrimfan1000 if only we could promise our goldfish extra treats if they agree to not pull up the plants.
