How to open a hood stuck shut on a Jaguar XJ8/XJR 98-03
A common problem on the x308 is the hood latch will not actually when the lever is pulled. this leaves no way to open the hood. All the videos I found showed drilling a hole in the fender to unlock the latch. I found a new way to open the latch with almost no damage to the car.

1998 Jaguar XJR - Front Brakes and Wheel Bearings

I set out to investigate why my front brakes are pulsing when I would brake in the 1998 Jaguar XJR. My guess was warped rotors. I end up finding a wheel bearing out of specification with play in it. My rotors were too thin to turn so new rotors were purchased. I replace wheel bearings, rotors and pads. This cured the problem and the car stops perfectly again.

Great. I have ordered the entire mounting 40 uk pounds as I don't have a press and 40 pounds is not bad. My car is vibrating a bit and I see that the rubber is completely perished on mine so I'm hoping this will fix it. Fingers crossed.

I’m just about to tackle this job, somehow. Checked local Jag only shop - $1400 which is a tad rich for my situation. My car was driven into a garage 2.5 years ago by an elderly lady. It’s now in my garage. Everything works and ether in the intake gets a sputter and short run time but 0 pressure or fuel at the rail. All fuses and relays are good. Anyway, as much as I dont want to do it, cutting the package tray out and dealing with rebuilding that might be the easiest thing. Thanks for the video details.

Exactly right! I used a 12 inch long dowel and it took no more that 3 minutes of poking for it to unlatch. The slot that holds the cable allows it to just drop down, so I am going to follow up both sides with some JB Weld to prevent this in the future. The cable itself is in good shape and no corrosion. Mine was driver's side so, yes, it works both sides.

This is an excellent video, but unfortunately it didn't quite resolve my problem because the battery cable got in the way. Not being able to understand the layout of the hidden hood latch, I drilled a 7/16in hole 2in directly down from the inner fender hole that Mustang Tyson identified. But I saw very little, yet I felt that something was obstructing a straight prod at the hood-release cable end. So I drilled a second 7/16in hole to the left of my first drilling and now a picture emerged: a cable was in the way. So I slipped a screwdriver through the hole and moved the cable toward the outer fender. With a 1/8in diameter steel rod protruding into the engine bay, I could now prod the cable end and, bingo, the hood latch quietly opened. Thank you Mustang Tyson for your assistance in this matter. Cheers Vic

😶😳🤔 did he just say he's letting the coolant fall into the cylinder!? 🤣😂🤣😂 STOP‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️ He doesn't want the engine. NEVER do this p engine. Best way...get out as much as you can, that a can of brake kleen and blast it in there (while spark plug is still in place). Stuff a rag or even paper towel in using a small hooked pick tool to absorb as much as you can, repeat this about 2 or x3. Allow it to air dry for 15 min. If it's just brake kleen in there it will evaporate quickly. If you see more coolant in there, repeat steps but do not let it fall in the cylinder. 🤦🏾‍♂️ This is the easiest way for those who don't have an air compressor.
