    Hey Juan love the video ! Question, I see the video head is $450+ dollars which is expensive for me as I am in my first year of shooting sports and I mainly shoot free lance. Is a fluid head that expensive needed to pair with the hi hat ? I shoot mainly field sports and want to purchase the hi hat but the video head price scares me

    Thanks Juan. Just jumping into the game feet first right now. I totally get that when you're jumping in, you just have to be resourceful in finding ways to get better, but QUESTION: any particular workshops you think I should look out for online, in person (live in US) or any other creator on UA-cam who focuses on teaching? Of course! That being said using manual focus by yourself when doing a talking head video isn’t the easiest thing ever 😅 I was too trusting of my auto focus with my f1.4 lens at the distances I was away from camera. Most times I’m at f2.8-4 and I don’t have that issue.

    I think less than the physical its more about having to deal with politics like feeling like you’re at the mercy of brands or companies for gigs. If budgets are cut or things are slow you’re slow. That causes me to feel burn out..

    • @JuanMoralesCreative
      @JuanMoralesCreative 10 днів тому

      I totally understand this! I think a big help here for me was also making time to make the projects and work I want to be hired for - even though that is active work, there’s a passion behind spec work that helps it be less of a pain.

    • @Conjuredfilms
      @Conjuredfilms 10 днів тому

      @ yes I agree thats why I’ve made some attempts to be active on this channel and make videos. I’m also trying to write again but the whole being at the mercy of other people thing is tough.. not that you wouldn’t be at the mercy if you were say a nurse 9-5 kinda job but its different theres more job security and you’re less expendable. Specially with sports! I’ve shot xfl, f1, indycar, big 3 and teams will want to hire full time OR they’ll have some guy willing to do A LOT for very little. For sports I feel like its more about people liking you and being at the right place at the right time.

    • @JuanMoralesCreative
      @JuanMoralesCreative 10 днів тому

      @Conjuredfilms @Conjuredfilms I think that’s what makes working in this industry as rewarding as it is tough. I truly believe that you can make it if you put in the work… it’s been a 7 year journey for me and I’ve been very fortunate to be where I am now, but you said it best - being liked and being somewhere at the right time, which equates to networking above all else! It’s absolutely an industry where you can find opportunity through connection which is why networking is INCREDIBLY important.

    I can attest to the importance of free work. I started at University hockey and then the ECHL. Currently working with an NHL team. Can’t stress the importance of using free work to practice your craft is the key. I’ve even been contacted by players agents from that ECHL team to create videos for them to get more notice. Think of the free work as an investment on your career much like gear.

    good point about the 120fps, the 24 fps motion blur is definitely sweet but yea 60-120fps can be a lot safer. Though the jittery cranked shutter look works well in sports imo too. I've wanted to try plugins like RSMB I think that add realistic motion blur (they said it was used in that boxing movie with Christian Bale), I think that'd be pretty helpful if the scene could use the 24fps-esque motion blur, even though it's not exactly the same as getting it in camera 👍

    how do you make a portfolio as a videographer?

    • @petersarellas
      @petersarellas 2 місяці тому

      Decide what you want to be known for as a videographer and then film that thing a lot. If you dont know what you want to niche in then just try filming everything and you’ll figure it out. Whenever you make something share it with the world, then go onto the next project. Sharing can be as simple as posting to Instagram, Facebook, Twitter etc at first. Rinse and repeat this and you’ll find yourself with a ton of work under your belt after a while. The best of this work can be consolidated either as you go or periodically onto a portfolio website where people can go to specifically see your work and contact you for work-related inquiries. When I first started I used the Portfolio program that comes free with your Adobe subscription to make a website, and now I use Squarespace, but what works best for you may vary. Once you have a lot of work under your belt and your best work built into a simple website that people can easily remember you can begin driving everyone there to find your portfolio of work.
