Definitely a great song but many of the newer drivers won’t get the message I’ve been trucking 26 years and still got few more to go but definitely a new Breed of drivers these days but hopefully they can keep it going trucking is a life style and not a job and the trucks they build these days are nothing to the power in an old school Detroit motor or a cat b model then 18 speed manual with 390 rears i still have my old school truck cause I refuse to use a eld and I never have used one and never will but everyone keep the rubber on the ground and be safe out there
I started driving in 87, drove to 02. Back when you could take your loose leaf log and drive when you felt like it, and sleep when you wanted to. No cell phone, no satellite tracking crap, no governor under the hood… Good ol outlaw trucking. Driving all the way across Texas overnight… and from Smoke to Shaky in a couple days. I went back on the road in 2014, drove until 2021… man, it was a totally different world than what I had left just a few years earlier. Getting texts letting me know I was driving 2 miles over the limit, texts warning me I was approaching the end of my legal driving hours, etc. Honestly no room for an outlaw. In 2021 I lost most of the vision in my right eye from an accident while strapping down a load, so I lost my medical certification and ended my trucking career. I still do and always will love my fellow truckers, but I can do without what the industry has become.
I'm 40 years in and 4 1/2 million miles behind me. I miss the old days, running triple digits and having blast. It's boring now, but it's the only way that I know to earn a living.
Some of the stories are exaggerated, but most are true. And it was safer. They’ve added so many laws to make it safe and it’s getting worse. Simply because of the illegal immigrants who don’t have to speak English to get a license. And they turn them out.
My ex-husband and I were on the road for nineteen years, and yes I can read a map, because I feel like this, all of the technology can break down and when it does, if you cannot read a map then you will get lost. The trucking industry now days needs to train the drivers coming into this business on every aspect or otherwise they could get themselves and others on the road hurt or worse.
Started in the west TXS oilfield in 1980. Driven everything but bull wagons and parking lots. Raised on a dairy farm so didn't want no more cows! Old school outlaw trucker. Hell I've still caught myself lighting another cigarette when there's still one lit I just sat in the ash tray! I sure miss if nothing else the old days when folks ran a "big" radio & wld talk. Hey south bound drop whad ya leave behind ya? Nothing but trouble! I hear ya hand !
