Albany Trail, Wyoming (single-track)

Albany Trail, Wyoming (single-track) The single-track is is my favorite trail type for my off-road riding . I haven't done much riding lately as I have been busy with finishing the yard ob the new house, building a storage shed, and finally finishing the L-Life home built truck camper. At least now the truck camper is done enough, so that I can get out and travel to more single-track trail-head...

Home built truck camper. L-Life explained This is believe or not, a home-built, do-it-yourself, slide-in truck camper that I built over the course of the last 3 plus years. The camper is primarily made of the 1” thick sheets of structural honeycomb made by Nida-Core,covered with 18oz stitched bi-axial fiberglass material as the main structural covering. This specific camper was designed for a f...

Home built truck camper Homemade slide-in truck camper using Nida-Core Structural Honeycomb material, 18 ounce bilateral fiberglass, and three-part epoxy. This custom made camper was design to fit the midsize 2000 Dodge Dakota.
Lovely build. I would make a couple of suggestions however. 1) you need a stainless top surround in the kitchen area and 2) either stainless or tiles (a perferred form of fire retardant material) to reduce the possibility of catching fire. 3) need a glass top for the gas burner so you have somewhere to put your pots, pans, plates etc when washing the dishes. Overall, Love the build materials, very well researched and thought out. Well done.
I wish u show how to build it i have same truck n liveing in it need that😢
Nice Build!!
Very nice. Looks like a factory built but better.
He’s a great design and build.
i know this is old, but i was wondering if anyone knows how this honeycomb stuff holds up in high heat areas, i live in florida so it's like 100f and 100% humidity most of the year. im wondering if this stuff does anything weird if it gets 120+ degrees in the full sun
finally after a few years of watching diy camper videos I find one that is thought out that is 6 years old. the trick with camper builds is to make it strong (using adhesive on Everything and ring shank long staples instead of screws and using larger lumber where critical and much smaller where not) weight is a major factor that so many diy truck campers end up on a trailer! lots of half ton trucks have a 650 lb bed load!
Really impressive!
Question for you, I noticed your roof goes inward a bit. However if it was a flat roof. Do you think it could support you standing on it without any framing or additional support? Say if it was the same size as a full-size truck camper? I'm asking because I'm working on designing my own truck camper to build and I'm wondering if a fiberglass and plywood with 2 inch xps foam insulation core could support someone walking on the roof without traditional framing.
Been researching all the videos on you tube because I would like a camper for a 5.5ft bed truck and so I ran across your video and got lots of thoughts and idea
Très beau vidéo mais où sont les dimension 😩😩
Outstanding
Very cool camper. I've been thinking about a similar project. I'm in Fort Collins and would love to check your camper out if you're game. Thanks!
I've got 98 Dakota 2.5 l 5 speed Ive had it for 12 years very dependable
I've had 8 dakotas, no major problems(I put around 100,000 miles on them)
love the build. I'm planning a bed off camper. Once I fabricate a flatbed, I'll be ready to start. I already have a great truck with a damaged bed. So it's a no brainer. Your info will be very useful. I was looking for an option for wall and roof materials. I'll send some pics once I get going. thanks for the detail and that list at the end. great video. Dale in VA.
Beautifully done.
One of the best looking DIY camper shells I seen on UA-cam, good job and thanks for sharing. 👍👍👍
I've got nearly the exact truck! 2000 dodge dakota 5.7L 5 speed manual, same packages as you except the sport. Got any preventative maintenence advice? I'm pretty attached to this truck, and I dont want her goin anywhere 😂 I hear a lot of people hate dodge and say they're absolute crap, but so far I've only ever had to get a new clutch (I tended to have a little too much fun when I first got it 😅) and replace the alternator. I've had her about 6 years now, only current issue is a bit of rust and squeaky ball joints 😂 the dealer installed and tightened them on a lift, haven't gotten around to replacing them yet. Bought her as is and couldn't get them to do it for me sadly, but I haven't had any real issues due to it, just makes her a bit squeaky when I'm out trail blazing 😁
I think you mean the Nida core is NON flammable..... Inflammable means it WILL burn easily
👌👍✋️
Great honeycomb product. Beautiful finish work inside and out. Much fiberglass, very heavy, expensive. No R factor mentioned. (Insulation qualities) none.
Impressive build. The exterior work is fantastic!
32 x 10 wheels?
Oops 31x10x15....
Hey we hope you might create an actual video of your camper walk through but not slides. Just a fee minutes long on likes and dislikes
Are the plans available on sketchup?
Best looking home made camper I have seen! It looks professional and quality fiberglass work.
Great build. Thanks for sharing.
Fantastic job, great attention to detail 👍🏼
Where did you get the material?! I wanna build my own!! Check my channel!!
well done
Forgot to ask. . How is your black pup doing? I hope he is ok.
Black pup was my daughter's rescued dog (Catahoula Leopard Dog) - smart as hell. She succumbed to diabetes over a couple of years ago (she was only 5), most likely genetic.
Can't wait for an open forum when us fans can interact with u. Thanks for coming back sir Rich in ohio
So glad to see you again! I was just suggesting to another UA-cam guy who does wood campers, end game....that he look ou up!
Bob this is an older video. Not sure if you ride anymore. I am 50 yrs old and just bought the CRF250F. My 7th dirt bike. That is by far the best bike I have ever owned. So simple to ride. Low end powder.... Its a heavy bike but does not feel like it. Thanks for sharing the video.
That's no camper. It's a little house on the prarie.
Best homemade I’ve seen
Excelent ¡¡¡
Pretty cool however you should not have the Propane and batterys confined like that inside with you.
Awesome man! Thanks for the update. Very cool that you did that… Never mind the original video was so informative and detailed also! After seeing the old camper video, im like “please have an entire youtube about your entire adventure and updates.” But nope. And thats ok. People don’t have the time. Just know that we appreciate a good detailed video or two…. Its rare. I must say that if you really wanted to, you’d kill it on youtube. Especially on these hot topics. But im also sure you know that by now haha. Idk why im still typing. Gonna subscribe incase you DO start making vids more often! Very inspiring… Take care
Yep, starting 2nd camper build for full-size truck using same materials.
👍👏👏
Awesome design and workmanship. I'm considering building one for my 2013 Tundra Crew Max. Your research and video will help considerably. I have experience with fiberglass cloth and epoxy in my boat building. I may be missing something, but did you install an air conditioning system in yours? Thanks for the video.
No AC, but would be a nice to have for Moab weather.
One of the best DIY truck camper on UA-cam 🔥
How cool
Very nice.
This is still one of the best builds on UA-cam to date! Your manufacturing method a x your aerodynamic attributes surpass the rest from my limited experience.
I've watch your video and could not tell, It looked like aluminium was used or aluminum tape to hold the material together perhaps to allow joints to dry? Also Im not sure how many sheets of nidacore you used.
What do you think about the poor man’s version of fiberglass and epoxy? Alternative with canvas and wood glue?
Still ride - not much lately with the recent Colorado fires. Owned the 2004 CRF230f since new - I have replaced 7-sets of tires, two chains, 1 sprocket set, brake pads once, seat cover once, fork seals & bushings once, & battery 3X times,
Best lightweight dyi I’ve ever seen ! Wowza!!
what is the weight of this camper empty?
