This Is DESTROYING My Toyota Tacoma
This problem is slowly destroying my Toyota Tacoma. If I don't get this fixed ASAP we will be having some big problems. Installing a roof rack on a Tacoma exposes you to some big risks and one of them is water damage.

I Found The Best Shoes For Overlanding And Camping In 2024
Best advice I could give would be to look for a used truck down south. Older trucks can be found for $5k-$15k relatively low miles and if it’s lived in a southern climate there will be no rust. Rather than plunk down a down payment just get a cheaper truck.
Speaking truth
Great topic not often discussed on this type of content. I might have a few details missed. A $44,000 loan @ 2.99% APR for 7 years at a monthly payment of $590 you will pay $4,738 over the 7 years in interest to the bank. Assuming the loan is a very simple with NO fees of any kind. You are right pay off the truck as soon as possible. The interest these days is much higher. Stop making payments and your cool mods will become the property of the bank. You will be making payments on modifications you no longer own. Oh if you invest the $590 instead over 7 years well ... I don't want to make the decision worse. You have figured out how to be RICH keep going. A future topic to consider is insurance of a modified rig (Truck). Most insurance will not cover modifications.
1 year later, you are extremely right❤
Do you prefer this tent over the body armor 4x4 skyridge roof top tent you posted on your channel?
Yes, very much so. This has replaced that tent
You basically just explained the economics of demand and supply. Vehicles will always be in demand so hard to believe that Tacoma will ever lose interest unless we go into a depression and 8/10 people can’t apply for credit. Financing a vehicle isn’t terrible if done right and you have good amounts of money saved. Companies do it when they buy fleets. Anything more than 5 years tells me as a Finance professional that you can’t afford it. Sure you can afford the monthly payment but you had to stretch it out….NOT smart.
Early on you mentioned V6 being slow. Does that mean the four-cylinder, seems I’ve seen it called the I 4, is faster? Guessing more efficient? Do you think it has enough power? Maybe it’s hauling and towing is different than the six-cylinder? Just starting my shopping so I’m trying to learn all these various options. Thank you!
Super helpful thanks.
Shut up nerd.
Spending money you haven't earned yet is a slippery slope that can ruin your life for many years. People overspend their income on overpriced vehicles that depreciate immediately and wonder why they can't buy a house.
in america when does a crik turn into a riv?
Paint is thin on army green. Use meguiars spray wax every wash. Remove the clutch accumulator and clutch pedal problem goes away.
This was a horrible test
I said the same thing when it came to removing that switch cap.
If you get that 10 inch Stinger head unit you can hook up 4 camras to that head unit and when you look on line for it some places will sell it for like $1000 but you can find it for like five something and the 10 inch it’s big and it’s nice time is it you can put two cameras on the mirror and then you got the back up camera that will hook back up to though when you’re backing up but I guess I would put a camera in the front grill and one on each mirror and change I haven’t did any wheeling off roading stop and if I do do it I’m not gonna get off into it like that turn off the TV and another thing you see on UA-cam like plug and play speakers kicker alpine infinity whatever and you always see the plug-in playsets and they’re like $500 you can buy the speakers like any ones you need don’t matter what brand shoes from shopping around and like you just have to buy like some clips for a few more dollars and you can get your speakers for like 200 and some dollars instead of 500 and something hey there plug and play you just have to buy an extra harness
I chose the 2023 TRD Sport long bed and not the TRD OFF Road coz i plan to upgrade both front and rear differentials with ARB lockers and possibly Method wheels.
Bought my 2001 Tacoma extra cab 4x4 manual all cash. I'm already borrowing money for law school, can't justify financing a depreciating asset to look 'cool'
This is why I will never buy a brand new vehichle.
Damn that thing is overbuilt 😂
Question, why did you remove the plastic cover in the first step? Did you need to do that? Good video!
Haven’t read all the comments but I’d bet the noise is the front body mounts. It’s a common gen2 and gen3 problem
This video didn’t age well 😂
just the interest alone would buy alot of parts....yes pay it off as fast as you can would be best monthly payments are just a tool, doesnt mean you can or cannot afford the truck......you could have an astronomical payment but are done in a few years paying very little in interest overall....or stretch out a small payment for years and years paying more interest...... you can refinance your vehicle at any time usually so your not stuck with original loan forever.....
Most real video on UA-cam
That was not what I expected when the algorithm offered this to me but preach brother! Debt can be a tool but debt always sucks and it affects your personal freedoms in my opinion. Everyone here who is struggling with debt, attack it now because no one ever felt worse getting out of debt early.
Man relentless makes a good looking bumper. I paid around ~$1600 (on sale) for my C4 overland plate bumper. It would have cost me another $200 for the shipping company to ship it to my house. I said hell no so I went to their facility and just picked it up. Fortunately it was not too far from where I live. Wait time for my bumper was around 7 weeks.
You would think Toyota would have drain rails built into those roof rack locations. Like they do with the sunroof, and the wiring is isolated, too. When everything goes down, the A-pillars. Water leaks can destroy a vehicle! I've personally had two vehicles, Lemon Lawed, for electronic failures for water leaks. Neither one was ever fixed! That's why I'll never own another Honda or Nissan. They paid me off to trade in the truck. So, I passed those problems to the bext owner. The funny thing is, these dealers keep that off carfaxes. But have a minor fender bender, and you're screwed. You lose thousands even if the accident isn't your fault.
My 07 FJ cruiser has a similar issue. It only happens during heavy rain. I ordered a GOBI rack and will fix it when that rack arrives
Rubber washers??
Paid off my truck- making me 100% debt free, and I recently moved back in with family. Now I can contribute to supporting the family by paying rent (obviously lower than what I was paying), and making some home improvements like rebuilding the deck, yard work, etc. I was able to take a pay cut and get a job where I’m home daily with a take home work truck, and now I have more money than I ever had. I plan on buying a camper and plopping it on some family owned land and living off the grid in the near future. As Dave Ramsey says: “I’m sick and tired of being sick and tired”. The banks don’t own me anymore, no property owner raising my rent unexpectedly, no companies taking money out of my pocket before I even have the chance to doing anything. It’s time to call it quits in the rat race, and start going down my own path. It all started by getting out of debt!
@@poorlittlebiker6476 that's awesome! Congratulations 🎉
You should use a proper thread sealer on your through hole bolts such as "Leak Lock". This will permanently prevent this issue.
Appreciate this video, man! I got totally hosed on my Subaru Crosstrek deal. I'm about halfway done with the deal, but I've made a similar mistake with the overland build that I've built up. The monthly bill is a killer!!
I had a cool Camaro that kind of did the same thing. I sold it so I could get a house essentially. Best decision I made. I now have a 24 Colorado ZR2 and while I'm not going to modify it like you did your truck mainly because yeah I got a family and I still want to use the truck to go do things the truck was designed for. I'm starting small with a truck bed tent instead of throwing on a bed rack and rooftop tent which would be something like 10x the price. Better to just get out there and enjoy the outdoors. I definitely want to keep the truck much longer than what it is financed for.
Damn this sucks, I've been running a roof rack for about 3 years and I've been lucky with no leak issues
That’s the whole reason I’m not adding a roof rack to my access cab because I have to drill the roof to mount it
I always wonder what people think when they see me pull up somewhere in my hoopty. I know what I think when I see people pull up in something nicer. “I wonder how much quality of life they are sacrificing In order to drive that $80,000 _______”
Your next realization will be did I really need a built truck and how did that minivan make it to this spot
Lmfao all that for a fucking rack that you don’t even out shit on. You corny ass office workers are so gay
No one workin 9 to 5 would be able to afford it. So no, what we are willing to pay is what sets a price for something.
I learned the cycles of bitcoin and crypto and invest low at the bottom and sell high and paid my truck off. I also bought mine wrecked and rebuilt it and saved 15k off of a new one and only had 7k miles on it.
Modern Day Viking? UA-camrs are now considered roving warriors?
Just a name bud. It's really not that deep.
I installed prisu pro roof rack on my tacoma and instructions said put silicon inside.
Im interested in these. What weight coils did you use to compensate for the weight up front? 650lb or 700lb?
Thing is you don’t have to modify a truck at all to enjoy it. A good set of tires and maybe a winch is all you really need to go exploring. I toured the better part of rural Nevada when I lived there with a bone stock 2002 tundra.
I just ordered some I hope I'll enjoy them!
I want to say I am sorry you are experiencing all these issues but I am so so Glad you are making these videos to educate all the guys who are thinking on building their rigs and avoid all the issues up front. thanks for being open with the issues. these will help so many of us. Luckily I have not modify my taco. It is still stock and I am waiting till I finish Paying if off to begging modding but I will do very minimal modifications and keep it as stock as possible, I am only thinking on adding the TRD lift kit and that is it so hopefully I will be OK. thank you
Part of your knife rust problem is leaving it in a leather sheath.
Reinforces the reason not to drill into your roof. Plenty of latch on products now days. A good silicone job for a leaky vagina/ taco. Did you also have to finance the silicone? 🤣
I'm not sure I understand your comment. Toyota pre drills the holes in every Tacoma to utilize their factory rack. A clamp on rack is great for the fellas who only take their rigs to Starbucks. But for someone like me who mounts hundreds of pounds on mine and off-roads not so much.
Great comment about the financing of silicone😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 i financed silicone once......... It was for your mom......... Tell your dad he's welcome and i said thanks for letting me hit that .
It happen the same to me 😅 was raining in my truck but now it fix 🥹
If you have any more leaks use butyl tape and 3M marine sealant 5200. Also if you can see the bolt heads. Use Dicor self leveling lap sealant. This is what I did on my Sprinter roof rack, Maxxair fan, and AC unit. I haven't had any issues in three years so far. Hope this helps
