Allen's O-scale Trains
United States
Приєднався 1 вер 2023
Allen McFarland is an obsessed collector of O Scale model trains. I have loved model trains my entire life but only recently started collecting seriously. My collection has Lionel, MTH, Atlas, Williams and K- line, also one 3rd Rail brass steam engine. I'm currently building a layout in my 2bdr apartments spare room, I moved into solely for the extra space to make my layout dream a reality. I'd like to meet other train enthusiasts and build knowledge as well as new friendships. My Instagram is also AllensOscaletrains so please message me there. I will do my best to make better videos so please help spread my channel out to the model train community. I look forward to meeting you soon and talking trains.
Restoration started on New Haven MP5. Man this was a rusted, neglected, non- running mess!

Whats currently on the work bench....yes it's a Marklin. I know not really my thing but I'm really digging the engineering that is put into these tiny trains.
Finally got the layout working! Running some Pennsylvania classics.

259e. Very nice. I like the red bulb on top
Keep in mind the fiber insulators on the center rail. They can be affected by the vinegar-water solution. Use of wire brush is a bit harsh on the rail surface, since it leaves minute scratches which will hold dirt and reduce conductivity. Best to use a non-abrasive pad for that.
I threw some away and replaced them with new. Much better
real track is rusty on at least three sides.
I did the same thing, the paper that grounds the track. We should talk about this sometime.
*Insulates. You don’t want it grounded.
What about the paper? Does the vinegar affect it as in destroying it? I have a lot of old track needs cleaning but don’t want to ruin it.
I have got two boxes of Lionel 3 rail tabular track and one box of marx o27 tabular track i bought at a yard sale a couple years ago
C/V ?
C/V ?
Bead blasting is a much better solution for sheet metal rust.
Vinegar does a nice job of removing the rust, but what about the insulators? Does it affect the material? That’s my big concern, and why I still clean AF and Lionel/Marx track with fine sandpaper.
😅Hi Allen, if the 333 has long cab shades it has a smoke unit. The same for the 1829 loco.
The easiest way to tell if a 333 has a smoke unit or not is by the cab windows. Smokeless 333's do not have the visor. All smoking 333's have the sun visors. The diecast tender was usually paired with the smoking 333. I collect all things, Marx. I still have my original 666 from 1954. I'm also very fond of the scale tinplate litho cars. Some are considered rare. I have most of them.I managed to get a good deal on a couple of very old, still NIB never ran before. There are versions with the scale 3/16 scale trucks and newer versions of the same cars wirh the lager type D trucks wirh stamped frames that were produced to run with the larger 1/48 th scale #21 F3 diesels that Marx produce to compete with Lionels scale 2333 F3's. You have several good boxcars and gondolas. There are several flat cars with pipe loads that are hard to find. The hoppers are another scarce item. The AT&SF stock car is another scarce car that usually fetches top dollar. There are 2 types of gondolas. The standard gondola and a high side gondola. There are 3 different tank cars. A GREEN Cities Service, yellow Shell, and the common silver Niacet Cemicals Corp. The boxcars are Pennsylvania, NY NH & Hartford, GAEX, NYC Pacemaker, Union Pacific Challenger and the Pacific Fruit Express refer. I know of two scale cabeese. The NYC and Reading. There is a Santa Fe tin litho caboose with the larger type D trucks that was made to run with the #21 F3 diesels. I have at least one of everything mentioned. Good luck with your quest.
Marx guy here, when the C/V is finished please show it?
Marx guy here, the finished product is worth the effort.
That set is beautiful. I bet it would have been a great deal at twice the price. And the Rio Grande came out great.
Allen, I love the light and dark green paint scheme on the Marx. Also love the Rio Grande scheme on the Lionel 259. I like the bare metal with the clear coat. You do a great restoration and paint job!
Nice Find 🎉🎉🎉🎉
Great Job Allen 💯
Wow, those are some beauties. Great job.
Sweet trio! 😎👍
Will this clean up my rusty box of Super ‘O’? I want to build a layout this winter. Finally got the room and boxes of track.
Give the track a vinegar soak. Let it dry thoroughly. Then go over it with industrial strength Scotch-Brite pads. Yes there is such a thing. Then follow that with cleaning of mineral spirits. Let that dry. Then follow with a razor thin coating of No Ox. Yes it's time-consuming but you'll never have to clean your track again.
The end result looks great. I just watched your other video on cleaning track. I must try this. Just subscribed.
I have some track I need to clean so I'll try this. Thank you for the video, Allen!
Me likem.
Nice job but hard to see due to vertical format. Please show more.
Shoeee.... Doggy Me.
you have to rinse the track with baking soda dissolved in water or it will instantly rust again.
For the steamer take a look at Lionel 2221100. I painted a n scale one in this northern pacific looks amazing I’ll send a link of it
Thanks man, yeah send me a link can't wait to see it. I like that NP paint scheme

That marklin looks amazing
Thats postwar that southern? Smoking deal it’s prob got old grease limiting the speed. Classic model trains has a really good tear down video for them. I got a Lionel o scale 86’ auto parts boxcar (they are 150 usd new) for 11$ on eBay. Missing a coupler. But an engine for 22$ that’s even better
Cool stuff Allen
I just came across this video .... Subscribed!!!
Thanks man I really appreciate it
@@AllenMcFarlandColorado You are very welcome
I bought a lot of rusty track and did the same. In these times, you have to save a buck somehow.
That's so cool. Works great doesn't it?
?
Very cool, I don't think I've seen one before.
Thanks it's a super cool controller. Im looking for the left side switch so I can finish it.
Sweet deal! 💯
Thanks for comment. Im working on some really neat ideas now. I'll post some as soon as I get my latest projects closer to finished. I really appreciate the feedback. Thanks again.
Thanks I appreciate it. Im learning how to make better videos. I'll keep making em and hopefully get better.
Hey that's a great job. Keep up the good work. God "Bless and Happy Rails". GMAN
Thanks, you too! I really appreciate the comment
I think that Flyer Loco. is a 1930s tin 420 repainted. I have a 1931--32 cast brass 420 .
Is mine brass or tinplate? Could you tell
You don`t have to say anything, it was priceless. Very good purchase at that price.
I'm so happy with it. It's just super cool and so well taken care of
Just found your channel. Nice projects! I made a GP20 handrail from one of those yard flags they use after treating the grass. 😉 That 259 is really sweet.
Oh that's a great idea. Thanks I'm gonna try to get a couple of those survey flags that'll be perfect
Marx produced the 333 locomotive for the purpose of competing directly with Lionel. It was designed to be a scale model rather than a toy.
Yes it's definitely their most realistic model.
Not all 333 have smoke units, but it is possible to get them with smoke units
Yeah I keep buying them hoping to get one
Marx guy here, nice work on the vintage Marx. I`ve custom restored some eighteen Marx locomotives. Now I`m trying to squeeze a Marx 999 motor into a Am.Flyer prewar 420 Loco. shell. Check them out? { SUB }
I will thanks for checking mine out too. I'll subscribe today.
I say, “Go for it” with the German GP-20. I think it’s a cool idea. 👍🏻
Thanks. I wanna find some of the German lettering you have on your locos. I got the idea from you because I think your German trains are about the coolest idea ever. Great job. I found some logos but couldn't find whatever words are on your German fleet.
Can you send me a picture or a place to see what your meaning. I'd love to use this engine. I've got it running like a top
Yeah it's a miracle fix if you ask me. I soak most of my nasty rebuild parts as well. Well the ones that won't get destroyed, motor parts ect.v
Thanks I really do live the hobby. I may be addicted a bit
