Takings: The Case Against Eminent Domain Abuse
Переглядів 4752 роки тому
"Nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation." These are the words of the Takings Clause, found in the 5th Amendment to the US Constitution. This phrase, just like the rest of the supreme law of the United States of America, is vague, and intentionally so. Policymakers have long used the vague nature of this language to their advantage. Historically, this has e...

There has never been adequate money for the proper care of those who were in these institutions, but the fantasy of sending to the communities to care for them was ridiculous. The necessary money for that necessary care has never been available. Just look at all the homeless in any city and you can see how successful the return of the disabled and mentally ill "to the care of the community" has been.

Unbelievable. Humanity is the worst species in this earth. It is very sad but true to see this documentary about how in those day they were treating people with mental deficient. Until this day still ignorant. People need affection and love and to understand them, they might have some difficulties to behave but overall their humans and then you respect like anybody else.

The campus of Bryce Hospital in Alabama has been absorbed by the adjacent University of Alabama. Only the main Administration Building remains. It has been renovated and re-purposed into a visitor's center.

What’s even more sad and has not changed as if someone has a learning disability autism or what have you they have no voice because even if they have a point and they are right in a debate, they will be patronized and shut up because they will just say ohthey have such such disgusting

They should’ve not been shut down because we have so many homeless there needed to be reformed. Healthcare should be available to everybody, but no one wants to do it the right way.

My mom was in an institution and was not treated well, and my grandfather, who is her father , he got her out of there and took care of her. And she went on to be a waitress and got to move into her own place and even got her children back. What a strong woman. 🙂

We need state hospitals now and we have so many problems with metal illness and all of these places shut their doors in 1982. That was the worst thing was putting ppl out on the street and they can't cope and I don't care if I die I had PSTD mental illness I would hide away in a church just to be close to GOD and I like church and I felt safe there.. I still feel safe at church.

It's disgusting to see these old hospitals being used as entertainment venues or offices. They need to be turned into housing for those with mental health problems that have been living on the streets. And they can have a community center onsite with a gym, food pantry, clinic, psychiatrist (which they are not forced to see), support groups and just a general area where they can socialize and make friends. This is what they need. It seems like when society decided it was inappropriate to torture the mentally ill inside these so-called 'hospitals', they decided to torture them with homelessness. How many severe mentally ill homeless people are out there on the streets, and they have no way of getting off the streets because their minds are too impaired to figure a way out of their ordeal? This is cruelty just as sticking an icepick into someone's brain is cruelty.

These hospitals need to be brought back. There's a serious mental health crisis in the U.S. and some of these people need to be put in state hospitals. Letting them run wild has been a disaster. Just look at how some people behave nowadays. Somethings definitely wrong. 50-60 years ago, we didn't have kids running around with high-powered rifles carrying out mass shootings and doing some of the completely moronic things that we are witnessing today. Some has to be done with these people. If the government spent as much money on the treatment of mental health patients as they do on the prison system, the situation wouldn't be as severe as it is. Sadly, putting people in prison, especially mentally ill people, has become an industry in this country.

The chick who does the readings is just way too comedic... the old black and white picture and ornate language mixed with the voice of someone who sounds like they work at a gas station, vape and have braces.

There’s an interesting interview online of a long time employee if you google Danvers State Hospital. It was at one time a well working farm, dairy and workshop. But also a story or two that are heartbreaking.

I’m 61. My godfather was told that his mother had died of tuberculosis when he was a child. In the mid 70’s he was contacted by the State of NY about having to share in the cost of “Mary Smith’s” care due to him being her closest relative. He assumed it was a distant cousin until he received her birth certificate. It was his mother, she’d been a resident at Pilgrim State Psychiatric Hospital since before WWll.
