I absolutely love the new design based on the sneak peek. Either way, I plan on buying your design on Etsy, but I think the new design will better suit my needs for the space. Nice! I upvoted the video. I feel like the quick link in the saddle isn't the best repair because the saddle is meant to just hold something statically, and then the zip stop rotating on the now-static quick link turns the quick link into a lever, which could cause the saddle to either loosen more over time, or bite more into the cable, and maybe both? I'd prefer to see something like a quicklink on the zip stop going to another quicklink, with a big saddle or something preventing the top quicklink from moving down the wire? I don't know, that was my initial thought while watching. Great work, though, I'm happy you it's improved from where it was!

I've done designs for various projects before where two pieces of wood rub together while pivoting on a screw, and have had great success making a couple of HDPE washers to lubricate the joint. Works much better than just a fender washer. Just cut them from milk jug plastic (HDPE has the 2 in the recycling triangle on the bottom), using the washer as a pattern, and sandwich it between the plastic washers. Also, sizing the length of the bolt to allow for 2 nuts, the second one being a jam nut tight up against the first, keeps the nut from working its way off without having to use threadlocker glue. Plus, it lets you really dial in the tightness or looseness of the pivot joint to your liking, because the jam nut makes the screw tight however loose it is between the wood pieces. Great project, again!

Nice design! I'm a real fan of the way the top corners of the inner legs stop against the underneath side of the top piece. Limiting the spread of the legs with a stop is a much more elegant solution than the ropes or chains of other horses out there. And good job on the angled screws holding the top extra tight. Great folding sawhorses!

Maybe it worked better when you did this, but adding sand as a texture in my paint for my wall at home was the worst mistake I made. It falls off, is VERY sharp and just not the move. Normal floor paint alone would’ve been great but I ruined it with sand. Just want to warn others so they don’t make the same mistake

Very good design, allows for flat top surface and complete sawhorse without any loose parts. Please talk a lot less and show a lot more of the sawhorse design. Most builders can see how something is made just by looking at it. Perhaps remake this video?

How deep is your bed of pea gravel? It doesn't look like it is cushioning your fall much. A deep bed of gravel does an amazing job of absorbing impact. I'd fill it up more if I were you...

IIRC, M10 bolts are used in Europe and the UK but I'm not sure about other places.

What is the density or specs of the white foam you used? I have a bunch of the high/medium density foam from when my gym redid there mats but would like to top it with something like the white foam you showed.

hi i am working on designing a 11 ft. climbing wall out in my garage and was wondering if a 30 degree wall would be safe hanging off of the trusses of my attic, some people online say its safe and some say its unstable do you have any advice, i need it?

ILD is the rating of a foam's firmness measured as follows. A 50 sq inch (8" diameter) round pressing surface is pressed into the foam until the foam defleccts 25% of its original thickness. example: a 4 inch pad gets deflected 1 inch. The force to maintain that 25% deflection is the ILD rating in pounds. The test is a little more involved but that's the key measure.

The specs say the 2" super max on top is 70lb ILD, which is harder than the 6" lux at 50lb ILD. Overall looks on the firm side. Very familiar with foambymail/foamfactory. Been using them for years.

When it comes to keychains, Niteize makes several products with and without magnets that are really handy. As far as the magnet's rated strength is, the 80lbs (if it's real) is the vertical force needed to pull it apart. The force required to slide (lateral) the magnet is much much lower, which is why you are seeing the magnet falling off the climbing wall very easily. One concern carrying a strong magnet this close to you it that it has a chance to demagnetize your credit card strip if there is prolonged exposure. Feel free to correct me.

Thanks for making this! I got the confidence to attempt my own wall from your videos and actually cross threaded one of the t-nuts. This is super helpful, especially running the drill in reverse to preserve the finish.

Hey Climber Dad, awesome content! I'm starting to work on climbing projects and have some specific doubts about the angles between two walls. I think it's called "miter angles"... Do you specify those angles to the client, and if yes, how do you calculate them? I model my projects in Revit, but I tend to calculate those angles by hand since I haven't discovered yet how to get them right in the software... I also have a doubt about whether those angles are always cut to achieve a nice fit between two walls. I observed that when the angle between two walls is smaller than 180°, we don't necessarily need to cut the miter angle because the walls are supported by the structure. I think it would affect how you construct the wall and the finishes. Do you have an opinion about it? Anyways, thanks for these tips, i am a big fan!
