UPRR 4014 - Lovelock, NV [my hometown!]
Half of the town turned out today to see 4014 stop here! I'm not even really a fan of the big boys, but I didn't wanna miss the chance to see it within walking distance of my bedroom.
Apologies for the shaky camera quality, had trouble keeping my hands steady from sheer excitement alone. It's even worse on the zoomed in shots lol.
And sorry to anyone I might've accidentally recorded!

Went out to Sparks today, finally got to see this engine in person. Up until now I had only ever seen it in passing at a distance.

Flying Scotsman - Australian tour + The Inaugural Scotsman
Переглядів 8 тис.2 роки тому
A few films lashed together into one. Here, for all to see, is 3 hours of Flying Scotsman during the early stages of his Australia tour, as well as the first run under Dr. Tony Marchington's ownership. I own none of the footage in any film.

4472 Flying Scotsman - North America tour/Coming home (Please read the description!!)
Переглядів 78 тис.3 роки тому
Ok firstly, I didn't find this myself, I found a link to it on twitter and downloaded it. Second, the last 30 minutes are a separate film titled 'Coming Home'. I understand this isn't the actual 'Coming Home' film but that's what the title says so I just went with it. Anyways yeah, here's Flying Scotsman's usa tour.

Thanks for the upload, Jess. By the way, for those who are interested, the piece of music playing around 21:00 and 42:00 is La scala di seta (The Silken Ladder) by Rossini, 1812. I don't know the particular recording though.

It’s also ashamed that Great Northern wasn’t preserved after it was withdrawn from being rebuilt to a Thompson Class A1/1.

If I could had gone back in time to the 60s I would have had Great Northern, Papyrus, Doncaster, Cameronian, Salmon Trout, Royal Lancer, Fairway, Merry Hampton, Victor Wild, The Tetrarch, The White Knight, Sceptre, Book Law, Shotover, Donovan, Blink Bonny, Tagalie, Tranquil, Singapore, Brown Jack, Centenary, Prince of Wales, Dick Turpin, Knight of Thistle, Sir Frederick Banbury, Flying Fox, Robert the Devil, Solario and Pretty Polly purchased for preservation at the National Railway Museum while Flying Scotsman was doing rail tours in America and Australia.

      And in case you’re wondering what numbers they wore: Great Northern - 4470 Papyrus - 2750 Doncaster - 2547 Cameronian - 2505 Salmon Trout - 2506 Lemberg - 2544 Pretty Polly - 2560

It’s a shame that Papyrus wasn’t able to do rail tours with Flying Scotsman due to being scrapped and withdrawn from service in 1963.

Well the films look great, but I'm sure it would sound better if all the soundtrack was in its original pitch, plus the last 30 minutes of the video "un-muted", if you know what I mean.

    • @seangannon1919
      @seangannon1919 8 місяців тому

Ironically, the film with Flying Scotsman running in America from Boston to Dallas, was recorded IN America with soundtrack correctly pitched, separately from the rest of this whole video. By the way, NWR1991, for your next Flying Scotsman, you might wanna record that film with the correct pitching, and perhaps even reveal the title of each theme as the Boston--Dallas tour film goes on. 😉

my grandfather was able to see the Coronation Scott in the states when it visited for the 1939 World's Fair, my dad wasn't born then, but my grandfather always used to tell me how beautiful the LMS Princess Coronation Class Pacific's were. He passed away a few years ago. I was born in 1976, so I was a few years late to see 4472 in America, but I did fly to Britain to see her in steam when she returned to her home. During the USA tour, My grandfather was able to cab ride with the crew of the LMS Princess Coronation Class no.6220 (the crew told him the engine's real number was 6229 as 6220 was the first LMS Princess Coronation Class and she was in service in Britain, so no.6229 was chosen and swapped numbers and nameplate with no.6220). My grandfather had a blast riding in the cab, he even got a few photos of the crew and was able to do some coal shoveling for the fireman. It is a honor to know my grandfather was a part of the LMS's Coronation Scot's USA tour back in 1939. The LMS Princess Coronation Class is my favorite LMS locomotive, as it is part of my family. Thanks grandad! You will always be remembered.

Confession time. Up until watching Unlucky Tug’s vid of Scotty’s USA tour, I really only knew of Alan Pegler as the man who nearly lost her forever in my country. But now I can see just how deep his love for this old girl ran and I can’t say I can’t relate to that. Seeing the twinkle in his eye in this video even decades after bankrupting him just brings the biggest smile to my face. You can tell he doesn’t have an ounce of regret. It’s sad he didn’t get to see her return to steam a few years ago but his spirit clothes that engine forever and will be felt at her centenary next year. Thank you Sir and Godspeed

The overpowering music made it difficult to hear what the narrator was saying at times. It went from nonstop orchestral composition to silent film. I was hoping to grab a view of it entering the old Pennsylvania Station in NYC or hear the locomotive at its full potential. This would’ve been the last train to enter and leave the original Penn Station before it sadly was demolished i believe. It was around the same time the new infamous station was being constructed.
