Side Tangents: Gen 1 Toyota Prius Resurrection
Переглядів 4473 місяці тому
Why? Idk! I bought this Prius with a ABS system issue just to find out that sitting for a few years hadn't done her any favors. Mouse damage, corroded battery connections, and several other unexpected side items made this adventure go from a few loose weekends to a multi month hell of work to get it back on the road! Starring a guest appearance by multiple LLVs! 00:00 - The First Saturday: Open...

A Side Rant About Water Leaks
Переглядів 2609 місяців тому
An unedited aside from the other day I didn't intend to set to public lmao. The electrics on these trucks are really showing their age, with a handful of contributing factors for common failure points. But the myth it's related to the washer fluid line really needs to end in my option as I just don't see how it's possible. Enjoy this unintendedly public clip so future historians can cite me in ...
LLVlog #8: Engine failure! Introducting the Parts Truck
Переглядів 729Рік тому
The LLV spun a rod bearing! While this was sudden, I honestly expected the engine to have had failed long ago anyways. This episode is a two day adventure into getting an parts truck to bring the LLV back to life. Expect more as we continue on down this path of converting the LLV from the 2.2L 4cyl to the 4.3L v6 offered in the S10 :D Follow me on Twitter @PostalDog94 for more updates!

I didn't initially intend to use this test footage, but it was interesting enough to post anyways to get some feedback on what y'all might like to see more of. LLVlog #7: Power Washing the LLV

This whole episode was a train wreck. I spent at least 4 hours tracking and blurring my ass crack just to satisfy UA-cam's rules. The second half of the episode never ended up happening due to the library being closed. Did anyone really want to watch a mail truck get washed at a self service car wash in the first place? A whole lotta fun this was, although it's looking a lot better now. Since this was filmed I've removed the remaining adhesive, although denatured alcohol and mineral spirits were a whole lot more effective than the goo gone was. LLVlog #5: Mail Truck Maintenance! O2 sensor and Turn Signals
Переглядів 8 тис.3 роки тому
In this episode I fight an O2 sensor, properly fix my turn signals, and a few other minor fixes. This one was an experiment in just filming nonstop from beginning to end and cutting it down to what was relevant and interesting. In the end I cut down over an hour of footage to make this episode watchable 👍 Follow me on Twitter @PostalDog94 for more updates!

I filmed a ton for this episode, but it was all unusable due to rambling away about wiring techniques, best practices, mumbling, and generally bad camera angles. This was also filmed before I had decided on the direction I wanted to go with these videos and it was still in my mind that it'd be an another generic automotive repair channel. LLVlog #1: I Just Bought A Mail Truck (1994 Grumman LLV)
Переглядів 21 тис.3 роки тому
Why am I buying a mail truck? I don't know, but it's cool as can be. I was so excited I completely forgot to film most of the hours long bus trip down to get it. I also setup the timelapse on the gopro wrong and missed most the return trip. Oh well. Welcome to my channel, there is much more to come as I fix up and restore this LLV :) Follow me on Twitter @PostalDog94 for more updates!

    I have a 2002, the ABS system is not just ABS, it is a fiendishly complex semi-brake-by-wire system. If the pump goes, you have very limited brakes.

      No rears at all and a whole lot of assist-less slop in the front as it runs in it's manual failsafe. It's a bit of a wild system design, reading the pile of engineering books I have on it was a lot of fun

    • @aspecreviews
      @aspecreviews 3 місяці тому

      The air conditioning system on this generation Prius is actually pretty neat, there is a thermal-storage evaporator core that keeps blowing cold air when the combustion engine cuts off at a stop or when the compressor clutch disengages. I have a 2002 and I'm not sure that is working, the AC blows WARM when the clutch disengages or the engine shuts off.

    Those rear shocks are a pain in the back side. You don't have to remove that metal ring on the steering wheel. Most pullers have long enough bolts to accommodate it. There are a lot of damaged horn contacts under the rubber horn button that will also make the horn not work.

  • @markchriestenson3257

    Use a propane torch to heat up the old o2 sensor. It will help get it out a little easier.

  • @markchriestenson3257

    There is a ground "leaf " spring inside the collumn right below the upper steering shaft bearing on a small plastic tube inside the upper shift bowl housing. That ground spring wears down and loses the ground connection inside the collumn.

  • @markchriestenson3257
    @markchriestenson3257 6 місяців тому

    That white relay is the horn relay. Also ALL LLVs windshields leak. You can only slow down the leak. The windshields are sealed from the inside, not outside like cars are normally made. Gruman designed the glass like their planes. When the pilot pressurizes the cabin, the windshield won't blow out. The planes windshield can leak in the rain, until again the cabin is pressurized then it will seal up and stop leaking. Also automatic car washes like to eat mirrors, so hand washing is best.

    Grumman really should've encased the fuse boxes in these, like they are in most vehicles. For instance, why not put it under the dash near where the ECU is. There's a video here on YT showing a LLV starting on fire, and it definitely looked like it started in that corner near the fuse box. From what I've read like USPS is partly to blame, as they've added so much on that the original fuse boxes can't handle the current and there's lack of maintenance on many of them.

    • @PostalDog94
      @PostalDog94 9 місяців тому

      Funny enough there is an aftermarket metal shield/box for them just because of this. I've only ever seen a handful actually fitted in photos and never on any of the LLVs around here. Ultimately I may just end up deleting mine and using the modern sealed fuse box and harness from the newer S10 parts truck. It would be an upgrade all around and fits the chassis very well
