Hail and well met, fellow travelers. Welcome to the gatehouse for the Gizmonic Order.
Join me and my lance-mate/vault-dwelling companion Pikachu as we play a variety of games - from FPS to BattleTech to Fallout - and talk about some of the things that make up those games. I've been playing games for a long time and writing video games almost that long, so I know a thing or two about the evolution of gaming and how we got to where we are today. Come along, feel free to ask questions, and let's have some fun.
I publish new videos on Tuesdays, so be sure to subscribe and click the bell to get notifications when new videos are published.

What game is this
Enshrouded, its on Steam
Enshrouded. They've been making some great improvements over the past few months and I just started streaming it again from the beginning.
your face is blocking everything
Battle Advanced 3062 is no where available to download. Not in exile or nexus pages. Where could we download it. Could anyone help me with the link to download the mod, would be of great help.
You can find it at BTA3062.com. That has the downloader for the mod. They just released BattleTech Advanced Universe - it sort of replaces BTA 3062. It's a divergent universe from the canon BTech "history", so be prepared. There's a whole page with the patch notes: www.bta3062.com/index.php?title=2024/8/30_-_Patch_v18.0 Good luck!
Your explanation of modtek makes no sense to me. the modtek folder has like fifty different things, none of which seem to do anything for me
ModTek is an integrated package and you shouldn't need to worry about any of the internals. All you have to do is drag the contents of the unzipped ModTek folder (which will have a lot of things) into your BTech folder. You don't need to do anything with those items - BTech will use those when it's loading to identify and load mods. Those things shouldn't require any action from you (other than moving to the BTech folder). Hope that helps.
@@GizmoDeVoe i kinda just gave in and now just go with unmodded, but thanks anyway lol
@@viktordickinson7844 Vanilla is still a great campaign and I highly recommend it. If you decide to try modding again, though, reach out to me - gizmodevoe@gmail.com - and I can help walk you through it. Have fun!
loved how informative and detailed this vid was, out of curiosity if your still making content would you be able to update on the 2024 year of modding? even with reddit and other platforms I've been checking out I'm still not having much luck, thanks in advance and no worries if you can't!!!
Another problem when i open BT and check mods its says not mods installed but i can see them in my mods folder BT is installed on C:
If you have a mods folder under under your BT install, it should pick things up just fine. I would recommend trying to reinstall ModTek again to make sure it's looking for the mods in the right place. Also - make sure that your mods folder has all of your mods and isn't just an empty folder (I'm sure you've done that, but it never hurts to double-check). Good luck!
Can BTA 3062 and BattleTech commander's edition be installed together?
@@alvisfloyd6263 BTA3062 and RogueTech are standalone mods that don’t work with other ones, to my knowledge, so you can either do BEX or you can do BTA. Hope that helps!
interested to know if anyone has had luck modding while playing on linux? I play on Fedora via steam and I want to mod SSOOO badly
I've played on Mac, but only vanilla. I have been unable to get mods to work on other platforms, but I haven't checked recently. I know that the ModTek injectors only worked on Windows, but BTech made changes to their loaders, so I'll have to double-check. Most of the mods seem to use DLLs, which are only usable on Windows platforms.
Just stumbling upon this mod after not touching bt since release. So I have the base game. Not looking to spend a lot of money. But if I chose to buy one of the DLCs which one would you recommend for playing roguetech. Thank you
Hi there! Thanks for checking on this. I would say that it would depend on what you're looking for out of the game. The vanilla game is pretty basic. If you want a little more depth to the game, I would go with BEX (BT Extended). If you want even more depth, I would look at BTA 3062. RogueTech is the most simulation-like of the mods out there and is the most like it would be running a merc unit in the BT Universe. It has many more things to track and handle than BTA or BEX. Let me know what you decide to install!
@@GizmoDeVoe don't care so much about the storyline. My biggest gripe about BattleTech was lack of mechs and Mech support. Coming from someone who played Commander gold, I love the fact that I can use those options while having a large list of pilots. BattleTech just felt extremely limited in that scope
@@JohnSmith-bh8um If you're looking for more variety, both BTA and RogueTech will provide that. BEX does expand things too - but BTA and BEX use the Community Asset Bundle (or CAB) that adds in a ton of 'Mechs. I think RogueTech has its own version of CAB with a huge number of 'Mechs also. The main thing will be WHEN these mods take place. BEX can start in 3025 while BTA is 3062 and RT is "after 3059". So that will influence which 'Mechs are available and what the state of the Inner Sphere looks lile.
@@GizmoDeVoe oh wow. So it's true to lore. Some mechs will have been phased out, while new one are implemented?
@@JohnSmith-bh8um Well, remember that most 'Mechs (in lore) were hand-me-down within the family, like peerage titles. But they do introduce new 'Mechs and change things around with existing 'Mechs at that time. The CAB is pretty substantial - it introduces vehicles (primarily armor) but RogueTech has VTOLs as well. Everything is pretty period-accurate. There's been a LOT of attention paid to some of the details. There are obviously some bugs here and there, but overall it's pretty good.
Thanks so much life saver!
Happy to hear that!
can't find injector in modtek.zips anymore, do you have an old copy?
I think ModTek took out the injector because it wasn't needed anymore with the new format for adding mods to BTech. I probably do have an older copy of the injector (although it would also be at their GitHub github.com/BattletechModders/ModTek/releases in past releases). Can I ask why you need the old injector? You shouldn't need it with the new version of both BTech and ModTek. Let me know!
I followed your all your steps in the order you explain in your tutorial however, when I run the launcher from the gamedir C:/Battletech, Steam opens up and starts updating the game and restores the data to default in the Steam folder and launches it from there. =S (Damn you Steam!). Do you need to copy and paste your game folder or cut and paste? Any other suggestions? Thanks for taking your time to make this tutorial and help people having some good playtime! You are awsome!
I'm so happy it was helpful for you! Thank you for the comment and I hope you're having fun playing the mods you've chosen!
Did you ever find a solution to this? I am having the same issue.
Thank you for taking the time to explain modding the game! For me it can feel like a pretty daunting task to figure out how to mod in the first place. However, your explanation and video helped me feel like I understood what I was doing, why I was doing it, and what options would be right for me. Very well done!
You're very welcome! I'm happy it was useful for you!
ok got it running but when i start a custom campaign it reverts back to vanilla
Think deeply about mithril
Apparently so. I must become one with the mithril. Tune out all other - wait, what was that? :D
trying it the 2nd time I must of screwed up the fist time because battletech updated on on steam when community assests got done
If you've moved the game outside of the Steam library, it shouldn't restore the vanilla game at all. So I always recommend that as the first step in the process. Then applying the mods happens in a different directory and you shouldn't have to worry about it. The other thing to remember is - don't use Steam to launch the game or it will cause issues. Instead, you have to use the launcher in the new directory. Good luck!
@@GizmoDeVoenothing in steam library just did Cab again and launched from battletech launcher and it went back to steam to update
I think I got It right this time
well thought it worked half the mods didn't load
CAB not working now....I want to play BEX but is seems nothing is working
EDITED UPDATE: At least as of 3/3/24. To anyone who wants to play BEX. (Not sure about the other types) -At the point of installing the CAB: CLICK ON THE "LEGACY CAB" version of installation in the CAB installer. -There's an option at the bottom left: Change 'All' to 'Legacy CAB'... TLDR Reason is because the CAB team apparently made some changes to the installer that certain modders haven't updated to. Which makes certain mods unable to officially load.... To compensate this, the CAB team made a new option that allows installing the files the 'old way' instead of the newer one less than a week ago... Source: Read it in some random reddit post. So if you get errors from the in-game ModTable like "!Extended Clans - Failed to Load", while "CAB Fatigue - Loaded" just fine: reinstalling the CAB installer with Legacy mode would hopefully fix your problem. (I read somewhere that the guys that makes the Clans retired, so there will be no update to said files in the near future. So this might be a more permanent thing to take note of when modding to BEX) I'm still going to leave my original comment below. As thanks again to the OP for guiding me through the initial process thus far... ~+~+~+~+~+~+~+~+~+~ Thanks for the video, as someone who is EXTREMELY NEW to modding PC games (outside of the easy Steam built in CommunityMods 'subscribe' function) this is one of the most easily understandable vids I've seen for modding tutorials. Personally I find Battletech is one of those games that needs a certain level of 'understanding' if one wants to mod it.. But quick question... What do I do about those mods that "Failed to Load"? Is it safe to turn them off and just keep playing with whatever mods that are loaded? Are there any specific loads that you would consider to be extremely important for a BEX playthrough (which is what I'm trying to do right now)? EDIT: Also aside from the main screen title as an indication, how do I know that BEX has been properly loaded? Will it be reflected on the mod selector screen as well?... God I think I'm getting OCD from seeing all the red 'Not Loaded' tags. For reference: I played Btech vanilla back on release day... So after years I thought I'd replay the game since I've heard so much of the modding community... I'd thought I'd experience all the new DLCs (since it wasn't released yet back then) and do a modded career playthrough at the same time since I've heard that they're compatible with the new flashpoints as well.
Thank you for the first reply and the tremendous value you added in the edit! I admit that it's been a bit since I've played BTech (I've been distracted by a LOT of other activities and games lately) but this is great information. As you mentioned, the community is constantly changing and evolving. It's hard to know whether any particular updates will work with the latest versions of things. I appreciate you not just bringing up the issues you saw but the solution you came up with! Awesome job! Thanks again for the comment and the additional information. Definitely good data for folks trying to get this working!
thank you for info most of my mods did not load so trying it this way
Thank you for the idea abbout legacy cab. I was searching for ways to fix and then scrolling through the posts here came across this and tried it. everything is working perfectly now.
Thank you for this update I watched a 1st start game session for BEX, where he was starting with the ARGO from the start in the career path is that correct or because he did the vanilla first?
You're welcome! I hope it was useful. All BEX games start with the Argo. You have to upgrade it and add elements as the game goes (I have some video playthroughs with BEX so you can see the starting point. I also have some with BTA and RogueTech. (Neither of those are to my liking, TBH). Hope that helps!
Thanks, this is how I wanted to start play, as the campaign start to get the Argo was never my thing. I'm a freelance Merc on the tabletop and how I want to go here BEX is perfect for me.@@GizmoDeVoe
additional note you brought up The Big Deal Mod (which mentions the CAC-C mod as well) but you didn't say if you had installed those or are they needed/workable in 2024 here. My interest with the big deal was the lams and some of the mech shown; but the CAB ha lams install and many of the same mechs showing in the big deal. hope that explains my interest and somewhat confusion. I have downloaded all the mods and except for MODTEK and BTML haven't installed anything else yet.@@GizmoDeVoe
Thank you good sir. Took me 4 hrs to try and figure out the first part of the installation. Didn't know it required a manual insertion.
Happy you were able to get it worked out! It can definitely be unintuitive.
Just in case it works for anyone else: Moving the Battletech folder (recommended towards the start of the video) didn't work. Once I moved it back it did. So consider skipping doing that or try moving it back, which I did. It's the only thing I did differently. I'm assuming that the location being checked for mods is specifically in the Steam directory. There's apparently a way to change where it looks, but I couldn't figure out how and it doesn't seem necessary.
What operating system are you using? I do know that some versions of Windows can be very restrictive of what happens inside the Program Files folder, so I'd be curious to learn more. The location for the mods should only be the subfolder "mods" inside wherever you're running BattleTech from. If you're running from Steam, that would have to be in the Steam folder, but if you're manually running from the directory, it shouldn't look inside Steam anymore. It's never a simple process. Thanks for the note!
This game is awesome in the lower deep it’s scary as fk
The Lower Deeps definitely has some challenges, no doubt! I think Dwarrowdelf will be a whole new level of stress, though.
Hi @GizmoDeVoe, I followed the instructions, but when I launch the BattleTechLauncher.exe it opens to a black screen with the in-game cursor (with nothing else), and stays there. I waited 5+ minutes, and my PC is fairly high end (3090ti with other comparable level components). It's stuck on the black screen. Any ideas? Where do I go to check the logs?
Thanks for this video! Good Lord, this had been complicated. After an hour gathering and installing mods, I find people say NEVER use Vortex, and I have to start from scratch. Bad or outdated instructions everywhere, and nobody warning you that none of the former methods work anymore and can break EVERYTHING. Absolute abysmal. It's still ridiculous post-1990s to have to manually install or configure anything, but your video was so helpful to save me more wasted time.
I'm glad it helped. I agree that it's harder than it should be - there are so many variables involved, it can be hard to know what's working and what isn't. Happy you were able to get it all working, though!
I too made the mistake of using Vortex. After watching this amazing video (and uninstalling and reinstalling everything), I'm finally up and running!. thanks Gizmodevoe!
I am getting back into battletech modding after a year and a half and found this video quite helpful for keeping up to date with modtek and whatnot! Great advice!| One of the things I noticed was that you seem to have several different instances for Battletech if im not mistaken that are labeled for different mod overhauls. I was wondering if those are indeed completely separate instances of Battletech each with their own modtek and mods and how I could possibly going around setting that up? Or if theres an easy way of changing mods about and getting modpacks switched around?
Hi there - sorry for the delay in replying. Yes, those are completely separate installations - with mods - of BTech. I just install the vanilla BTech and then move it somewhere else, mod it, and play from there. It does break Steam, so I don't use Steam at all except to install a new vanilla version (via "manage local files"). For most of those instances, the mods are significantly different and don't work together. For instance, BTA 3062 and RogueTech are complete overhauls and would break each other. So I put them in separate folders. For other mods, they can co-exist, but you may need to enable/disable them via the Mods menu in BTech. Hope that helps. Good luck!
@@GizmoDeVoe it's all good! I am intrigued when you say it breaks steam. Like how so? I noticed when I tried it myself that steam kept trying to reinstall or update battletech once I moved the files so I had to uninstall it completely and reinstall it to get everything to work. When it breaks steam, does this mean that trying to launch battletech with steam open causes the issues I saw above? Does making sure stream is completely closed actually allow the game to launch? And finally, what ways do you manage to get the game to launch? Apologies for all the questions, I tried troubleshooting this myself and have come across such weird errors that I can't necessarily wrap my head around 😅
Do you know of any mods that allow you to get Clanners as mechwarrior pilots? Perhaps after you beat a Clanner in a mission? Any mods remotely like that?
Great question! I don't know of any, but I will check and see. I'm not 100% sure where those characters are loaded from, so I don't know how much control the mods have over adding or altering the pilot rosters.
thank you
I'm trying to install Battletech Extended. I have ModTek installed exactly as demonstrated here. I have the Community Assist Installer put its CaiCache files in a separate folder on the same drive. When I start Battletech.exe I get an error message: ModTek Died. I've done everything as instructed. What went wrong?
The main thing, if you're seeing ModTek failing, is to work on getting it working first. You should make sure to install that first, get it working correctly, and then you can work on the other mods. Otherwise, you're going to have problems with any of the mods. Just make sure you're not trying to run this from your Program Files directory. But do the CAB last and the other mods before that with ModTek being the absolute first. So - install ModTek, run BTech, and see what happens. Make sure you have all the latest updates for BTech and ModTek before you begin. Good luck!
Thanks@@GizmoDeVoe I did manage to get it working. I had my directory set up improperly. Interestingly enough, I keep hearing that it isn't necessary to run ModTekInjector anymore, but that's what I had to do. ModTek is included in the most recent version of the Extended files and I had to run the Injector executable to set the load order. I'm not certain why it would be different under other circumstances... But the important thing is I got it working. Thank you for the reply! I appreciate the assistance.
@@vcdonovan5943 That's great to hear! I haven't kept up on what the latest BEX versions are doing, but the ModTek authors are saying you shouldn't have to run the injector. Good to know that it's still something you CAN do if you're having trouble that might resolve some issues. I'll make sure to keep that in my back pocket. :) Congrats on figuring things out! Happy 'Meching!
Thank you!
Thanks for the videos, Good job.
I played BEX for a long time and enjoyed it, but I needed more. I installed BTA a couple weeks ago and I love it. Tried RogueTech and felt like a fish out of water and even in Easy mode, but BTA is exactly the happy medium. Seems like the best of both worlds between BEX and RT.
That's awesome! I'm glad it hits that sweet spot for you. I have to say that it was more detailed than I was looking for, but I know a lot of people who LOVE that level of detail. I loved tracking stuff for my merc unit when I played tabletop, but I don't think I got to the level of detail BTA or RogueTech do. Happy you're enjoying it!
Ok, I have no idea what I'm doing wrong: Installed Modtek first, then BEX and the other mods I want next (Character Portraits Loader and the portrait mods I want, Expanded Arsenal, Better Performance), CAB and ran the Injector. The game folder it not in the Program Files folder at all, mods are enabled in-game. Did all of that, didn't work. I know using the steam directory location would not work, and the other mods require Modtek to work. I need help because I am lost.
Hi there. I'm sorry you're struggling! And I'm sorry for being absent for so long (I got wicked sick and it's been a LONG slog back to health). Let's chat and see if we can get you back up and running. It shouldn't be too hard, so I know you can get this working!
@@GizmoDeVoe Found another pair of videos that are actually older than this that work. I had to do a completely clean uninstalled (Meaning I had to go to hidden folders, and delete EVERYTHING), then follow the instructions as well as redownloading all the mods because some of them were corrupted. So, yeah it all works now.
mech commander 3 when
I don't know. It's a great question and I think it really would mean that the devs decide to tackle it again. I loved MechCommander. I sort of sucked at it, but I did love it. And I know that the folks at Harebrained are looking for work, so maybe we can suggest it to Jordan. :D
Followed steps. Having trouble googling my problem. Problem is now that i ripped the game out of steam anytime i try to launch as you advise it starts downloading the game in steam but never launches the game
So if you've moved the game out of the Program Files/Steam directory, you won't be able to launch it from Steam. You're going to need to create a separate shortcut to run the executable in the folder you moved. Launching from Steam will just result in the behavior you described. You should just be able to double-click on the launcher in the new folder and it should go from there. Good luck!
@GizmoDeVoe yeah when I double click from new location it doesn't launch and steam then starts to download it back into the steam directory
So modtek is working cause when i have the game loaded it has mod menu in the lower left hand corner but the mods i am trying to use is unlimited tonnage and are enabled and there is no change. Got the mods off nexus.
I'll have to check that mod specifically to see what might be going on. There may be some dependencies on other mods you don't have installed. If I find something obvious, I'll let you know.
@@GizmoDeVoe there is a mod on Nexus to increase tonnage, and that works, but it would be nice to figure out why the unlimited tonnage is working. Like to see if there is either unlimited ammo or more ammo per ammo box equipped to a mech cause man LRM20+++ run out quick
@@PHANTOMWARROR I do understand the problems of not having more tons of LRM20 ammo. :) I should have some time this weekend to look some of the mods and make a recommendation.
@@GizmoDeVoe question do you know where I can get my hands on Mechcommander 1 and 2 that work on a pc? Online websites/emulators? That shit is what I grew up on. Also do you wish battletech was a real-time strategy game instead of turned based the OG MECHCOMMANDER GAMES? Are the devs going to make another game but not turn based?
@@PHANTOMWARROR I do like MechCommander as well. There is a site called MyAbandonware that has some of those older games that aren't available anymore. I do know that GoG (Galaxy of Games) also has some of those older tiles, including ones that I enjoyed, like Clouds of Xeen and Privateer. I kind of miss the old MechWarrior games, especially Mercenaries. The newer games that are out are all about Clans and I'll admit that the Clan era is not my favorite (and not solely because they just arbitrarily killed off my entire merc unit). 😄 I've tried the new ones but they're just not the same. I will say that I liked it when HBS decided to make a turn-based game, though. It was scratching the BTech itch I had for the tabletop version. 😀 As for making new RTS Mech games, you're probably going to have to look to Catalyst's stuff. MechWarrior 5 is fairly good and RTS like the older MechWarrior games. I'm not sure what's on HBS' radar for future games.
Followed your directions, finally got it "working, though half of the mods failed for one reason or another, but I launched a new campaign and it's just stuck on the loading screen at 200fps and the little loading wheel, it won't actually start the "game"
You will probably need to start over with the mods. What I'd recommend is installing one at a time and double-check if there are any instructions with the mods you want to install about order of installation (that can really matter) or known conflicts. I do know that some of the mods can take a long time to load, but it should continue. Good luck and keep me posted!
Okay, so all I'm trying to do is use a mod off Nexus called Retrainer - it's simple and small. After finding your video I landed on just installing ModTek, exactly the way you did it. The game confirms the two mods loaded and are active but for some god awful reason this mod still doesn't work. If it's because of the mod, that's one thing, but I just want to make sure there's nothing else I need to do to lay the groundwork for mods to work. The only thing I may have done differently is I kept the game on a drive I only have steam games on. So no program files or anything like that - just a drive dedicated to steam games. Do you have any advice to offer on this?
I'm not what might be happening. I did check out the mod and you're not the only person who had a problem getting it to work. One possibility is that it only works with a new game. I would start a new career or campaign and see if you can access it that way. It's possible that it can't be added to existing games. Otherwise, I would reach out to the developer through the Bugs tab on the Retrainer page and ask if they have any recommendations. Good luck!
Long time playing first time modding do i need to install the Community Asset Bundle
Most, but not all, of the mods require the CAB for them. You can see what other mods are required in their Installation instructions. Each mod has to decide what they want to incorporate. Good luck!
@@GizmoDeVoe sorry to ask for help but i did the following moved BT out of GOG , loaded MekTec 4 then BEx then CAB just like in the vid, I am now getting a error launching game with custom settings... is this normal it wont go past the BT launcher
@@Dishnu It shouldn't launch with errors. You will need to make sure you're launching directly from the directory you moved it too, though, rather than through GoG or Steam. If you're seeing problems with the launcher, try just launching the BattleTech.exe. Good luck!
Yea my fault wrong window..
It works... you are the dude. Hats off for the assist
Please, I wish you would emphasize the fact that the Mods NEED to be Installed in a specific order more and would very much like a detailed breakdown of the order... please. 🥺
There are a LOT of mods out there, so it would be really difficult to provide a comprehensive - or even partial - list of that. The main thing is to install ModTek first. After that, you should check the install order from the individual mods you want to install and see if there are installation order requirements for each of them. Are there specific ones you're looking to install?
@@GizmoDeVoe I was more of just thinking about the order of the Mods you talk about in the video and like, random Mods could just be in like it's own little category or something, lol. But I did finally get BTA 3062 to work. The problem was all those other Mods I was also trying to use... conflicted with BTA 3062. So I'm kinda working on learning how to make my own little Mods to BTA 3062 specifically... to try kinda bring as much of those Mods I wanted to use to BTA 3062 as possible, lol.
@@EonEsper-Kriz I think that the order I use in the video is correct for those specific mods, but I don’t address any of the other ones (3062, RogueTech, etc). I don’t know what mods are compatible with those full conversions. That’s a great question and I think the mod developers have some guidance there (I think the answer is “none”). 😉
@@GizmoDeVoe From what I learned, BTA 3062 is not compatible with RogueTech or even BEX... you can't even already have ModTek Installed first because it has it's own Version of ModTek and it will just mess everything up (learned that the hard way, lol.) If gonna install BTA 3062, you do need to have a Mods Folder but... you can't have anything in the Mods Folder... the BTA 3062 says it will wipe it all for you, but in reality, having anything in the Mods Folder will mess up BTA 3062's Installation.
@@EonEsper-Kriz Absolutely. That's my understanding as well (and goes for RogueTech too). BEX is more open and flexible with other mods, but with the full conversion mods, there isn't really an option to have other mods. Unless you're doing what you're trying to do, which is craft mods specifically for that conversion. Good luck with that! I'd love to hear what you learn.
A fascinating field for revitalising a great game :) For me, I am most interested in trying to create my own Flashpoints so I can create meaningful content for lances that aren’t four Assault Mechs - any tips for good sources and tutorials on that front?
I love your plans! I've been thinking of doing some flashpoints too. And especially for the "no 4 assaults" crowd. 😄 I've been looking at different resources about writing them, but I don't know how good the ones out there are. I wish I could offer up some suggestions, but I don't really have any at this point. I would love to hear if you find some great ones!
Another great video! You have saved me from a lot of headaches with videos. Do you have a way to donate a few bucks? You have saved me so many hours. Thanks!
Appreciate the offer, but not necessary! These are all for everyone to use and - hopefully - get them going with a great game and amazing mods!
will this work with the gamepass version of the game?
That's a great question. I'm guessing it won't because of how EA and Windows are working together, but if the game directories are laid out the same as the Steam version, it may. I'll be curious to hear what you learn!
Great video, thank you very much for this. I Kickstarted BT and have played the crap out of it but have never tried any of the mods. I'm downloading the mods you use and recommend in this video right now, I can't wait to check them out.
Hope you enjoy it! Let me know what you decide to try out and how it works for you.
Regarding your advice to move your BattleTech install out of Program Files to another folder: I have my BattleTech install in a secondary Steam games folder on another hard drive separate from C drive (D:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\BattleTech). Is that sufficient?
If it's not in Program Files, you should be okay. The main concern is that Windows OS will be more restrictive of what you can do in that folder, so you should be set!
@@GizmoDeVoe Excellent, thanks!
Thank you, I’m going the start downloading mods this weekend. Are there any multiplayer groups and what mod includes clan mechs
Most of the mods, even BEX, include Clan Mechs. What matters is when you set the timing to. RogueTech and BTA 3062 will specifically include a lot of Clan stuff, but BEX will let you play through the Clan invasion, which is pretty cool. Good luck!
you had my props soon as i seen the ROBOTECH shirt
Thanks. I did love Robotech. 😃
ok so Modtek is no longer giving us the correct files. when i download it i no longer can unzip it. it has 2 files only. so as of 3/18 mods no longer work at all
I did just check and there is a new version (4.0.0) that's available. When I unzipped it, I did see all of the files that should be there. I haven't tried installing it yet, but if you make sure to grab that release, it should work. I will check it out early this week to make sure it's working properly.
I followed this to the letter and none of my mods show up in the mods section, CAB, nothing at all. I moved battletech to my C:/ drive out of Program Files, unpacked ModTek and copied those files and folders to the main Battletech file, followed CAB installer instructions to the letter with no deviations and none of my mods that I downloaded are showing up in the mods folder when launching the game from the Battletech Launcher. This is my fourth attempt after uninstalling and reinstalling the game. I don't know what I'm missing :/
When you say "non of my mods show up in the mods section", do you mean in game or in the folder? And just confirming - you've done complete wipes of BattleTech when trying this? Complete wipe meaning deleting your BTech directory, running Steam, and reinstalling completely? Then moving that (before you do any mod stuff) out of Program Files and THEN installing the mods? Where are you moving your game to? Can you let me know what version of the game you're running? Do you have any of the DLC? You can email me at gizmodevoe@gmail.com if you'd like to get some more direct troubleshooting. Let me know. Good luck!
@@GizmoDeVoe They weren't showing up in my in game folder but were showing up in the file folders. I'm running the latest version and did a complete wipe to ensure it was a clean uninstall before trying again.
@@GizmoDeVoe It's been fixed thankfully and my mods are finally showing up and working in game. For some reason moving Battletech out of the Program Files x86 folder was causing the issue with the mods not showing up but keeping my install in the Program Files x86 folder got rid of the issue
@@mrbaylove7 Yay! I'm glad it's working for you now. It's great that you found a workaround. My videos tend to be a "your mileage may vary" kind of advice. Different people have different drivers, different versions of the OS, etc, so it's never going to be a perfect match. But I hope that it's better than 80%. Happy 'Meching!
Not sure what went wrong, followed the instructions to the letter and the Launcher refuses to to start the game. Does the CAI cache from the Community Asset Bundle need to be somewhere. I noticed it just created the folder where ever I run the exe?
So the CAB does cache things locally where it's installed (usually your Downloads directory). What I recommend is that you create a subfolder in your Downloads for all of your mods, ModTek, and CAB. Then you can unpack everything there and make sure you have what you need. You shouldn't extract CAB into the BattleTech directory - running the installer will put things in the correct place (the /mods folder under your BattleTech directory). Let me know if that doesn't help at all. And if you want, you can email me at gizmodevoe@gmail.com and I might be able to help you out more directly. Good luck!
When I move Battletech outsside of programfile, it puts steam into this death spiral of contantly redownloading, and reverifying the game, forever. how do I get steam to stop doing this?
I'm not sure why that would be happening. You can't launch the game from within Steam any longer (since it's not in the Steam directory), but why it would be continuing to try to verify is odd. Make sure you use the BattleTech launcher in the new directory rather than launching through Steam. Let me know what happens.
do what i did just move your whole Steam Library out of program files did that years ago. it has a second added benefit if you move it to say D or E drive and reinstall windows you don't have to redownload your games again. just wish gamepass would let me do that i hate redownloading when i screw up windows.
Yeah, it's doing the same thing for me as well.
That's really weird. Are you trying to use Steam to launch the game?
@@GizmoDeVoe Nope. Followed your instructions exactly. Was only installing BEX.
Your tutorials were really helpful, thanks.
Happy to hear it! Thanks for letting me know.,
