EV Trike Progress (new main channel project)

Working on a new project for the main channel (@GavinRemme ). This is a bit more ambitious so it’s taking time while also in school! Excited to share more soon. It’ll have a rear hub motor, no pedals, and a steering system designed for steer-by-wire! I have so many fun ideas to try with this platform.

I bought this base model 2012 Volkswagen Golf off Craigslist for $7200. It has 88K miles and the 5 cylinder 2.5 liter engine.

The exit at the top still jams and needs probably one more redesign. Fun to watch though!
Marble Run Auger Prototype

Working on a taller version now. PLA printed on an ender 3 with an aluminum shaft I turned to fit skateboard bearings. And a piece of wood lol. It deserves a finger warning. Marquell is helping with the electronics.

I scrapped this design for a number of reasons and went to a 3-wheeler. But it was an interesting starting point
This was from 2022, but I made it public so it seems like I uploaded it dec 2024! Unused footage from the main channel video (@gavinremme FSAE 2022 season). Would’ve made the video way too long and was hard to move the story quickly, but I wanted to share because I liked the interview setup I did.
Sounds mean asf. Us rednecks are impressed
I am going to build something like this one , speaking it into existence
Why did you rev to 4k when it was cold tho :(
Fsae?
A video, with some chill music, same time of day, and engine noise with no talking... could be epic.
Greetings!! Im VERY glad I came across this!! Ever since I was 8, Ive wanted to make a cool marble track. In January, I turned 50, while jumping into the world of 3d printing......so here I am, lol. Im currently woking on designing an auger type elevator, but I want it to be adjustible anywhere from 25-90 degrees. im going with 1/2 inch steel ball for my marbles. I realize now that the shape of the auger blade will determine how I go about this, after seeing this vid.
Where is it ?
Chico CA
Did you keep the Miata? Would love to see more Miata content
I still have it! I should make some videos
it's a torque converter auto
SICKKK BROOO🔥🔥🔥
how tall is the driver??
I place both batteries and Using 5V 2A or 5V 3A as a power, the first battery charges in two and a half hours, but the second battery remains orange with only 9% and takes another two and a half hours to charge... Does anyone else care? happens? Did they resolve it somehow? That is, I charge both batteries simultaneously, but it only charges one, and once that is charged, it charges the other. The load is in series, not in parallel. Is that a charging failure? or does it work like that?
Does this linkage design have a name? Curious to do some research into it
pull rod suspension
and reverse version name is push rod suspension
I guess i should have known that, I'm just used to seeing the rocker link inboard of the control arm hardpoints and inside the chassis. I figured this was just for kinematics. @asdf10214
Love this just riding with a buddy in a car and loving the sound, scenery cant wait until I get my own car to do this <3
Great job Awesome nice car Respect for builder God luck in work and in life 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
You can turn the mirror upside down, it gives more view
This is my favorite part about owning a Miata
I imagine there's a mod or two on the exhaust... can you say what it has on?
I’m seeing a steep increase in views on this video right now. Warning to other teams - this design failed on us in endurance! I wouldn’t recommend this same design.
Gavin would you please share how it failed?
Miatas can do everything
😂 why haven’t I seen this before??
Always crazy to just casually see people in Chico haha
楽しそう😄
GOOD! NB1
NB 2 actually I believe. 2002.
I love that phone holder setup, what is it?
It’s actually my canon 90D with a clamp mount on the roll bar
They should make a class called Hyperkart for cars like this to compete on track
Not small enough
cone defeated suspension
bro what exhaust is that i need it
Stock lol
do you have uneven header installed?
No but possibly an exhaust leak 😅
Hey guys, this is Matt from Sac State Hornet Racing. I didn't get to talk to you after competition about what happened. I looked at the results and was surprised you did not finish endurance. It looked like it was going pretty smooth, but just too close on one corner and a bit of bad luck. Congrats on winning cost report and getting through the dynamic events. We definitely look forward to meeting next year at comp.
Hey Matt! Thanks. Yeah def just some bad luck + maybe driving a little over the limit lol. We replaced the bellcrank in 5 minutes and the car is fine. We'll reinforce this for next year.
I really hope some day FSAE can run in peace without cones
nice man, but any reason why the steering wheel is offset to the right on straight driving? just alignment issues?
Bc during the driver change it didn't get put on straight lol
Man your were freaking killing it
Not me driving, but our driver Ben was going ham!
I've wanted one of those for years, but in a city it's just not practical :/
Is the best in the city. It’s tiny so it’s easy to park and maneuver. Plus the gearing is relatively short so you still get to row gears.
@@moregavinremme6768 it’s more of the cost of garaging, potholes, maintenance, etc
The way they have this pov set up if perfect. I can see everything
Ben says '2 more wheel spacers' at the end there lol
would love to try autocross like that with mine! nice run
You should!
Beginner vs decent. Nice video.
good run man!
Thanks!
damb
Man this is just enjoyable to watch. As someone whos planning and dreaming on getting a MX-5 Roadster as a first car, this video is really helpful and motivates alot. Thank you sir 🗿💯
Glad you enjoyed it!
It looks like metal wrapped in tape...
It is. We had to do some last minute mods to get through tech inspection. Race car stuff lol
Broo the "experienced" guy on bottom is holding the wheel so wrong. Like a grandma in a way. You look way better man don't listen to that guy. I don't think he knows the basics
That hand position is commonly used for autox. Not ideal for road racing but here it can be effective and is more of a advanced technique. If you’ve read any autox books it goes over different hand positions
I'm so fkn tired of the asinine comments where people think how you hold the wheel is the most important thing or even important at all. Go watch Walter Rohrl, Group B rally driver world champion, and tell him he's doing it wrong. Honestly, in this case, it's mostly called "being tall and having to avoid bumping your elbows into the door and center console". As a tall person myself, it gets old fast that I have to work twice as hard to turn the wheel at all without bumping into something and then short guys leave clueless comments like yours. Bonus: you're a furry, you shouldn't be judging ANYONE about ANYTHING.

Nice vid! Where’d you get the phone mount?
Love the rotax engine
Sounds and looks great for stock.
