Pink Floyd Time Solo Cover
A bit different to my usual bootleg uploads.
Apart from one dodgy bend, it's not bad. It's not meant to be completely perfect, some of the extra bends near the start are borrowed from the various live versions out there, but it's pretty close.
Proof that you don't need a pick to play Gilmour too, for the few people that always seem to disagree.

    In 1988/89, I was an American in Germany...lucky enough to catch the MLoR tour on 16 June 1989 in Hamburg, one month before this video. Best concert of my life by a landslide. I've seen many excellent bands and musicians over the past 34 years since this tour, but not one stands up to the experience of that concert. The composition, lyrics, the seamless transition from one song to the next, the sound quality, backing vocalists and Gilmour...it was excellence.

    So, this was supposed to be the last concert of Pink Floyd. That day 500.000 people came to watch this beautiful piece of music and arts in Venice. Comfortably Numb solo by David Gilmour in this concert is absolutely one of his best performance ever, the way he keeps that note at the end of the solo taking his time to clean his nose, drives me crazy. Words can’t express the gratitude for the tremendous gift they gave us with their music.

      Hi Jesse, the audience recording of the night Empty Spaces was recorded can be found here (not my channel) ua-cam.com/video/9WuFZlop73I/v-deo.html. Unfortunately it's difficult to tell what effects are on his voice in that because the quality isn't perfect, but I suspect you're right, the delay effects were probably added by James Guthrie when he mixed the album.

    It was my dad that recorded this!! How did you find the video?

    • @ThomasHinde123

      yeeshkul.com/forum/showthread.php?35297-Pink-Floyd-1980-08-09-Where-s-the-pig-gone-(M) I got it from there, and there's a little piece written by I assume your dad! In 1979 I was living in Holland. On a trip back to Blighty I heard about "The Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy". It was being repeated on Radio 4, on Thursday's when I would be playing darts in the local league. Determined not to miss it, I spent a day trying to find a radio that could record Hitch Hikers while I was out. At last one was found. It was at a company I had never dealt with before. But they were the only ones providing an alarm clock radio / sterreo cassette recorder that could receive on long wave. The company was Dixons. I paid 495 guilders (about £120) for the privilege of purchasing this unit. It did a sterling job of recording Hitch Hikers, and for that I am very grateful. It should be noted that Dixon's after sales support was as useless then as it is now. The Hitch Hikers recordings had worked really well. But that wasn't the end for this pre-runner of the "ghetto blasters" useful life. Managed to get tickets for Floyd doing The Wall in Earls Court, and I had an excellent tool (if rather large) to record the concert in Stereo. Looked at my tickets. I was in a rubbish seat right up in the gods to the right of the stage. How can it be recorded in stereo from there? Luckily some friends had excellent tickets in the center stalls about two rows in front of the mixers. No chance of swapping seats. So one of the girls agreed to have a go at doing the recording. After a short course in button pressing and turning the tape over, she was off. Apparently to get the device into Earls Court it went up her jumper to feign pregnancy. The result is what you hear, and massive thanks for a job well done. Shame about the localised bellowing, but he's still a friend, just. The master tape was a Maxell UD 120, bought just for that one job. It was played once on the way home from the concert. Once to record on to reel-to-reel, which was then used to produce a cassette for listening to. Then with the miracle of modern sound cards it was used twice to record in via a Creative Audigy to WAV. Once in 16bit and once in 24bit. The MP3 files are from the 24bit version.

      Could you ask your Dad if he still has his Master tapes from this gig? This mp3 version is good but the masters will be EX im sure. The good people at Yeeshkul could work on this recording and make something special with your Dads help. Cheers

      I saw them live in Oakland at the Colosseum... We were reasonably close to the stage, and that drum cage was pretty awesome to see in person. I was extremely high that night and don't remember much, but that drum cage really stands out in my memory. That, the bed crashing into the stage with pyrotechnics, and the flying pig. When the pig flew, with those red beams coming from the eyes, the mushrooms had fully kicked in... 😆 The sound quality was amazing. It was almost like listening to the album with extremely good headphones. But anyway, yeah Gary Wallis was really awesome on drums.

    Does anyone know if there were backing musicians at this show? It sounds like at least one backing female singer and also a couple of times it sounded like a proper violin instead of Rick's synth strings... Also, I wonder if there's a percussionist or if it's all Nick...

    • @ThomasHinde123
      @ThomasHinde123 3 роки тому

      A lot of the string sounds and some of the percussion (like in Bring the Boys Back Home) are from playback (pre-recorded) from the tapes used on the album. As most of the show was played to a click track (like a metronome), this could easily be done as the musicians wouldn't go out of time with the backing track. Also, there was a second drummer, Willie Wilson, who played some of the percussion parts, for example at the end of Brick 1.
