    It's common sense: More power requires more fuel. The fuel saving figure refers to ECO mode which is NOT Sport or Dynamic mode. It is conceivable that ECO mode actually makes less power than stock, if it saves fuel.

      Hey Rob, thanks for your comments. I totally agree with you: more horsepower should require more fuel. After using the GAN GT for around one year I thought I would further test my gas mileage. I put the GAN GT in sport mode and ONLY changed the Alfa DNA drive modes to see how that impacted fuel economy. Results: GAN-GT in Sport. Vehicle in drive mode A (advanced economy). I drove 60 miles at an average speed of 80 MPH. Results 30.1 MPG. GAN-GT in Sport. Vehicle in drive mode N (natural). I drove 60 miles at an average speed of 80 MPH. Results 29.8 MPG. GAN-GT in Sport. Vehicle in drive mode D (dynamic). I drove 60 miles at an average speed of 70 MPH. Results 26.3 MPG. Absolutely no surprises in these test results. Now, let's jump ahead. I have been using the GAN-GT for three years, and I got some very interesting results I my latest test. I have heard that your vehicle ECU continues to "learn" and optimize any chip tuner the more you drive it. (Not sure if that is true.) To test this smarter ECU idea as it pertains to fuel economy, I recently drove from Nashville, TN (my home town) to Indianapolis, IN. When I departed Nashville I was in rush hour traffic (stop and go) and when I arrived in Indianapolis I had a small amount of in-town driving. The balance of the trip was mostly interstate. I drove between 65-80 MPH depending on traffic. The GAN-GT was in Sport. Drive mode was D (dynamic). I averaged 33.3 MPG. What, 33.3 MPG? That blew my mind. How could it be that much better? I decided to test again on the way home, and you won't believe it. On the trip back to Nashville I got 33.2 MPG. My GAN GT was in Sport. Vehicle drive mode was D. Is it possible that the ECU is getting smarter over time? Either way 33 MPG is pretty darn good in my book. Would love your thoughts.

      @@DoubleD9947 Ha! I don't have a GÄN device and if I had the spare cash, I'd buy one just to test the theories! I have 2 cars - one a normally aspirated 2.0l Miata and the other a 2.0l Turbo Skoda Superb from the Volkswagen Audi Group. The engine is actually built by Audi and the rest is from Skoda in Czechia. On longer journeys both cars return good results. The Miata averages about 34.1 miles per US gallon. This includes some 25 mph zones and some fast highway (80-90 mph) but a lot of cross-country roads (50-60 mph). The 2-ton Skoda with Eco mode can actually better that by a hair for the same trip. Where fuel is saved is by driving at CONSTANT speed. All that is necessary is enough force to overcome drag but not accejerate a 2 ton vehicle. Air resistance (drag) of the vehicle is proportional to the CUBE of your speed. So driving 50-60 mph saves a huge amount of fuel for the same trip as travelling at 80 mph. If you can bear to sit behind a large articulated truck rig for mile after mile then you can save even more fuel because he is creating a zone where the air is moving at an intermediate speed. Ynother trick I use is to look and think ahead and try to anticipate what is happening on the road. This way I use the brakes as little as possible (their purpose is to waste energy!) and let the engine slow the car. This way with most if not all modern ECUs it actually uses no fuel. Same for descending long hills. It also lubes the engine and lets it cool slightly. To get back to your topic, I would be interested in the results if you set your GÄN device to Eco mode and also have your Alfa in Eco mode. Do a longer trip and see what results you get. I suspect you would be blown away by the results. Try using the tricks I mentioned above to conserve fuel. Anecdote 1: I had a Mercury Cougar 2.5 V6 and using those tips achieved 40 miles per US gallon. Anecdote 2: With the 2 liter turbo Skoda Superb (like a VW Passat or Audi A6) I have on several occasions achieved over 40 miles per US gallon. Considering my tank holds 19 gallons you can imagine what a crazy range on one tank I can get. I regularly get over 620 miles to a tank.

      Hi @theuncanspan. I did not try the ODBII (GAN GA+) before I purchased the GAN GT, so I can't comment based upon user experience. I can tell you the GAN GT isn't particularly difficult to install. It does go under the hood, but full instructions are provided. There are some installation videos as well as online instructions you can review before you make a final selection.

    • @DoubleD9947
      @DoubleD9947 Рік тому

      No, but I bought the GAN-GT with the goal of improving performance knowing that it would likely compromise my gas mileage. Of course gas mileage is highly influenced by how much you hammer down on the accelerate pedal, but when I was testing for gas mileage (same road, same speed, same distance) I noticed a reduction of about 2 miles per gallon in my fuel economy with the GAN-GT active. I haven't checked fuel economy in a while, so it might be interesting to run it again and see what I come up with. Thanks for the idea!

    Gan Gt claims up to 48Hp by means if you do additional modification such as perfomance intake and exhaust turbocharger upgrade etc..plus they have 18 customize maps which you can do it by yourself if you are a pro tuner..you can get 48Hp with your stock equipment on your car and 23Hp gain is consider big improvement with chip tuning module nowaday..anyway good info and thank's a lot for your honest review.

      Hey Ibnu, I haven't tried any custom mapping yet. Have you made any progress working with the engineering settings in the GAN GT iPhone application? I remain skeptical of achieving a real 48HP gain. All of the chip tuners make a claim of "up to ## HP improvement," but I believe that leaves them leeway when you achieve less.

      Yes, definitely! I really notice the additional torque when I am already rolling, and I want to accelerate further. That is an excellent question! Although I noticed an immediate performance improvement after installation, it was recommended to let the engine adapt to the chip tuner. I originally installed the GAN-GT in March of 2021. I drove it for the break in period, and then did an in-depth review in mid-April of 2021. I didn't note the exact mileage at install, but it was around 30,000 miles. I now have over 35,660 miles on the vehicle. The GAN-GT has been working well since it was installed.

    Worth the money? Would it improve my Renault Megane IV 1.6 16v 115hp? Looking for performance improvement and mpg as well! Appreciate ur feedback. About to get one, still hesitating. Is it German made? Thanks!

    • @DoubleD9947
      @DoubleD9947 3 роки тому

      Although I am not familiar with the Renault Megane IV 1.6 16v 115hp, I am assuming this is NOT a turbo charged engine. The GAN GT primarily changes the performance characteristics of the turbo charger, which provides the HP and performance improvements that I mentioned in my review. GAN does make a chip tuner for engines without a turbo charger, but my research leads me to conclude that the performance gains by chip tuning (regardless of the chip tuner brand) a non turbo charged engine might be small. However if you are still interested in chip tuning your Renault the GAN website recommends the GAN GA+ for your vehicle. Based on my experience, I have not found the GAN GT to provide any improvement to MPG. I can confirm that the product is German made. Let me know if you have any other questions. I hope this helped!

Not familiar with this setup, also afraid from it! I'm basically a Mechanical Engineer working in Automotive quality field but I have no experience in chip tuning boxes and how they work (only re mapping) also the setup type that attach two connectors to MAP and MAF sensors sounds like trying to trick readings! • @DoubleD9947
      @DoubleD9947 3 роки тому

      @@TuningLovers When I was looking for a chip tuner I ultimately selected the GAN product over the RaceChip product due to its affordability (lower price) and the fact that it included the ability to control it via my smart phone. The GAN also claimed a greater HP gain than the RaceChip for the Alfa Romeo, although I did not find the GAN lived up to it’s marketing claim of a 48HP increase. I only achieved a 23HP gain. However in your case the RaceChip claims a larger HP gain, but it is at a pretty significant price premium. Even if you have limited mechanical skills you can install a chip tuner. The toughest part is just getting the cables zip tied and looking neat. Based on your background I am sure you could do it!

    • @DoubleD9947
      @DoubleD9947 3 роки тому

      @@TuningLovers I don’t think that chip tuning is trying to trick any of the sensors because doing so would probably cause a bunch of error codes and warning lights on your dashboard. Chip tuning is just a way to extract a bit more performance out of your factory power unit. Another point to consider is that both GAN and RaceChip have a warranty on the product as well as the engine on which they are installed. That should help give you some measure of confidence in the quality of the product as well as the fact that it won’t damage your car. I can only speak to my experience with GAN and my Alfa Romeo, but so far I have had zero mechanical issues since installing the GAN GT.
