I'm not sure what happened to the end of the video but you simply take the wood and hit it along the outer lip of the cases with the hammer to split them. It will take a good amount of force.

This is the fifth part of the complete build of this ski. This is old footage from the day that i tore the engine down and found that the flywheel, stator, and crank had been destroyed from water in the front cover. I shoved all of it in the corner till now and will be getting back at filming stuff. Enjoy the video and drop any questions in the comments and I'll get back with you.

Jetting ?
@@andrewanaya7975 unfortunately it’s been so long I can’t remember anymore.. if you look up these carbs with a similar engine setup you can find jetting specs on forums. That’s what I did and then went from there. Hours of fun ahead if you get the west coast mani too lol.
@@motorandoutdoor8137 yes have an identical setup, westcoast manifold with dual sbn38s from a seadoo, but thanks for the response!
I can’t tell because with the lighting but is this a piston port motor?!?
@@codytierney5231 yes it is!
Valuble information . Thanks man!
Thanks for the video! Mine has the same pipe, TDR waterbox, rear exit exhaust. Is that the same concern about over-filling the waterbox? Is TDR box and rear exit more or less susceptible to overfilling?
Unfortunately it’s super hard for me to say. I just recommend the diversion for the pisser just for a little help with loading but it isn’t that much of a restriction I just like to run my pipes a bit hot. And any aftermarket box should be better as far as clearing out because there are less baffles in them.

Hello! I watched your video on UA-cam. You have a great understanding of engines! Can I ask you to send me by email instructions for repairing the kawasaki js 550 sx engine. Thank you!
Hello! I do not usually work with the SX engine. I would refer you to the “Kawasaki 550 Jetski” Facebook group. Look in the files section of the group or post a question for it and someone will get it to you for sure.
Hello! I watched your video on UA-cam. You have a great understanding of engines! Can I ask you to send me by email instructions for repairing the kawasaki js 550 sx engine. Thank you!
I’m about to buy mine tomorrow It’s used
Very nice m8 I hope you enjoy the car as much as I did!!
ok so visually you wrecked it
Ore Dock and Blackrocks! Are you in Marquette?
No I’m not but the bike came from up there originally!
Is a 38 a better fit for a stock 440
Yes it is.
hey man just curios to know what brand the fuel pump that you are useing.
It’s a Mikuni!
I used a crow bar on the coupler and it pulled right out.
dual carb 550 with other mods gotta be faster than a 650 they look so much cooler too
Yeah it is faster than a 650. If you look at my other videos I have the flat deck with a 440 pump and 550 single carb that would run with a 701 top end. Doesn’t have the pop with the steep impeller but at speed it’s a rocket.
Water is supposed to enter the exhaust manifold come out top of the head then back into exhaust
Not sure what ya mean. Are you asking a question?
You could fix all those small items and you could probably happily drive for years. E-brake, heater, rear hatch lock, speedo, maybe find another hood in a junkyard. You could fix all those yourself and probably wouldn’t cost 200 in parts. I like these little cars
Quick question my 550 runs good out of the water but as soon as I drop it in there's like no power to the pump. The RPMs go up but no power to the rear>>>>please help
It’s cavitation, the impeller could be badly beat up or the ring to impeller clearance is too large. Have you changed your ride plate recently and put silicone around it? Or also have you removed the pump and not siliconed around the pump to hull enough?
@@motorandoutdoor8137 so I pulled my pump everything was good, took it out in the river this weekend and the shaft came off the motor. The motor slid forward, does the motor blot down to the mounts or does it just rest on the rubber dampeners? So weird
It should have bolts that go through the holes on the bed plate and into the mounts. You then use shims to align the two couplers. I have a video on doing that as well. If you didn’t bolt it down it will just fly forward.
Any tips for adhering the straight fitting to the carb? The one that comes with the primer isn’t threaded. JB weld?
Miss my '95 baby Aspire. Craziest thing she did to me was to drop the shifter onto my exhaust pipe below! Lol...had to ride home holding up my shift stick. 😆🤪😬
That happened to me too man😂😂
How does the large gas tank fit with your exhaust?
It has a cut out in it to fit the cone of the pipe. It’s a pain to install. I heat wrapped it cus it’s really close or touching.
What year is that JetSki? I’ve never seen one with a flat deck with 2 foot holds but looks like a nice job you did there.
It’s a 1983, and thank you, some guy did the fly deck and I turfed it and put the foot hilde in. I got it in a package deal with a bunch of stuff, it was a bare hull and built it.
I bought one hoping it will stop the bouncing (porpoising). The guy I spoke with said it will. What do you think?
Yes it’ll be very helpful all around. Skipping over chop and landing you more flat off waves instead of going pump first and bobbing after landing.
I forgot about the flooring lol. I had the auto but never was I not flooring it
I hated mine so much but it never left me anywhere. My spedo also quit working. There's a little 6 inch cable screwed into the transmission that fails. Easy fix
I don’t mean to get personal, but I’m looking at the same bike I think the 650 is too big if you want to go off-road would you mind telling me what you paid for that. The guy I’m dealing with wants $2500 I think that’s a bit much for an old bike maybe I could babysit on what you paid for yours thank you so much
I paid $1600 and I wouldn’t pay more than $2000 unless it’s a really clean bike. I think you’ll be happily with it if you get it. Got mine out on some trails this summer and it handled them great.
@@motorandoutdoor8137 I don’t even think I’ll give him that much, from what I understand these motors have a lot of problems I don’t know why people say that. But anyway thank you for replying back
there is a really clean one in my area with only 3k miles...but the seller wants $3500@@motorandoutdoor8137
had one it was a cool little car , my spedo went on me but the funny thing was in the winter the spedo went super revs all the way , the first time it happen to me i thought what the fu@#k lol .... tossed it wen the transmission went but the motor was good
Thanks
That thing rips what the mod list? I want my ski to move like that thing
550 engine, West coast high compression head, .5mm over wsm pistons, pjs crank, Coffman long pipe, sbn44 carb, mariner water box, 440 pump with 16 straight skat impeller, intake grate, and ride plate.
Any benefits to doing this? Easier to reboard?
Nope no benefits at all lol. I just got the hull in a bulk deal and thought it would be fun to try it out. It’s harder to board and less stable I wouldn’t recommend it.
Thanks for the video!
I miss mine so much, I rusted the paint, plumbed in a giant cold air intake out of the hood, mailbox to cover it. Literally held together by zip ties and duct tape
They are fun little cars!
Hey, I'm having a really hard time finding someone in my area that will bore my cylinder. If I take my head to any machinist, with the right knowledge, could they do it? I'm up in Canada, so shipping for me is very timely, and expensive, so I'd prefer to find someone close that I can go see.
Join the 550 Facebook group and make a post looking for someone in your area or gotta just keep calling around. As far as the head if you’re getting it milled any shop should be able to do that.
Im working on getting one and does anyone know where to get a new ignition switch
If you can’t find one looking it up on a oem website your best bet will be looking on eBay for a used one or checking aspire pages on Facebook.
HORRIBLE IDEA!!! DONT DO THIS!!!
How many miles are on yours? And what year?
Speedometer stopped working at 116000 so miles stopped counting but I would guess about 125000 and it’s a 1995.
@@motorandoutdoor8137 Thinking about selling urs?
@@lisadavila1 not right now but I’ll drop a message here if I do decide to.
Where did you buy kit from? Looked up mad boot kit, not sure which one you got
Not mad, it’s MSD boot kit. So just js550 MSD boot kit and that’ll be good.
Thanks! Did you ever decide to get your CDI rebuilt afterwards ?
No I’ve just been running it and it’s still working great🤷♂️
Hey I have some questions on your jet ski maybe dm on insta or somthing
My Instagram is jacob_klomp shoot me a message.
Where can I find a replacement wear ring for the 550?
I believe only wax racing did a limited run of them a couple years ago but none are available now unfortunately.
I own one my self it is a fun little car I just need a radio
Yeah seems like all these things radios go bad that was the first thing I did.
Thinking about picking one up, what are your thoughts about it's longevity?
It’s a sweet little car. Defiantly join the Facebook aspire page if you get it to get more info about the car cus it is a little hard to find stuff about it. I think the reliability is good a lot of people post their aspires going well above 200000 miles. It’s a pretty simple car if you do need to do any work on it too. I would say if it’s a good price get it it’s fun driving a car foot to the floor the whole time.
@@motorandoutdoor8137 I don't think the one I'm looking at comes with a radio, is it difficult to have an aftermarket one put in, as well as new speakers?
Happens with a lot of these cars. For me to buy the head unit door speakers, wiring for the sub and amp I already had with instal was $450. But if you were just doing the head unit and door speakers I would guess 250ish
I could not kill my manual
Do you have to run the fuel pump with a round body ?
No the round body fits on a stock mani no spacer or anything. It’s the SBN (square body) that has a thicker fuel pump side so you either need to take that off and run a remote pump like I did or run a spacer to get the needed room.
Super KLR 💪💪💪💪💪👍👍👍
When you Installed the primer itself on the dash, did you make a gasket or just use sealant?
Just some clear silicone.
@@motorandoutdoor8137 also what about winterization? Do you need to use rv antifreeze?
If it stays in a garage where stuff doesn’t freeze it’ll be fine but if it’s gonna be outside or in a detached garage it’s a good idea to use the rv antifreeze.
why make your life difficult? Instead of washers, I had to use aerobic thread glue for $ 2
I was just already in there and the washers are kind of cool so I used them for some insurance. They definitely aren’t necessary though just mention them as an option. I also throw loctite on the threads.
@@motorandoutdoor8137 I am Polish, I do not know English well. If you mentioned this, I am sorry.
Just a option all I was saying. Thanks for watching🤙
@@motorandoutdoor8137 plans to buy js550 from 1989. What to look for? 2t engines have no secrets from me, but I have never had a jetski.
Biggest things are does it run, compression, has it been rebuilt, impeller condition, and what after market parts are on it. Look for any fiber glass damage or repairs inside and out as well.
Where you get gas tank?!
Picked it up on eBay. Just gotta keep an eye out. Look up js550 extended gas tank
@@motorandoutdoor8137 thanks for that, I know you said west coast pick ups, look nice I want one. Did you also grab that off EBay or other website ?
You can try to find them on eBay or go on Facebook and look up Kawasaki 550 jet ski page and you can ask a question about who has some and buy them off someone with PayPal on there. You don’t need west coast brand pickups necessary, just a pickup that will reach to the bottom of the larger tank. You could modify your stock pickups to be longer and that would even work. All about how you want to do it become they all use the same threads on top of the tank.
A lot of tanks will come with the right pickups so you usually don’t need to worry about that.
Ran that stuff in the late 80s .pull the bolts and slap it in .motors out already .really frees up the rotational energy .nice zipp
Silicone around the ride plate will actually cause cavitation?? This may be my only issue?
Just the facts mate🤷♂️
Buy direct from Jet Dynamics and it’s cheaper. Glen is awesome it work with and totally would love your input to improve any of his products.
list of mods please? it sounds really sick
Engine wise it has a mill overbore, high comp head, pjs crank with adr bearings, dual 38 carbs, pjs half pipe to a Coffman water box.
@@motorandoutdoor8137 awesome thank you!!
