Immortallium's Horror DVD And Blu-Ray Collection 2022
I used to import a lot of Irish releases on VHS due to them receiving an uncut issue compared to the UK version. For instance, Intruder was censored here but put out completely uncut in Ireland
Really! That's actually incredible! Didn't know that at all!
@@immortalliumhorror8718 Cosa Nostra were a popular Irish company that also put out a lot of stuff that were still banned in the UK. They issued New York Ripper uncut
Just discovered New French Extremity with Martyrs.. My worldview is completely different now. Some of the greatest films ever.
It's life-changing as a horror fan!
I was introduced to New French Extremity through Martyrs, which blew me away. It's my favourite horror movie. I'm now collecting them on bluray. As well as Martyrs my favourites are Inside and High Tension.
All great choices! It was so refreshing to discover the films of the New French Extremity and, while there aren't quite as many as I would like, I'm so glad to have seen them.
What about "Inside" ? That's NFE to the core.
I only managed to see it relatively recently. Really enjoyed it!
You won’t ever see an 18+ certificate (except R18) whilst we have an Obscene Publications Act that covers movies.
I'd actually forgotten about R18. Yeah, it's a shame as well as it could potentially solve a lot of issues.
I liked the video btw - it makes a lot of valid points. The BBFC are a regulator and like most regulators they really don't want to push the outer limits of their regulatory powers because that usually ends up with politicians calling for regulators to be scrapped!
@@Nelbertine1 Thanks! Yeah, it's a shame.
Have you ever watched the piano teacher?
I haven't but I can see why you'd ask.
7:00 - It's mostly why a lot of films (but not all) that were passed both X and 18 in the past get reclassified 15, because the BBFC's guidelines change over time and things that are acceptable at 15 nowadays were not okay in the past, etc. Also on the topic of video nasties, I believe the film Butcher, Baker, Nightmare Maker / Night Warning (1981) might be finally having a UK home video release after being rejected by the BBFC back in 1987 (when it was submitted under the title The Evil Protege), as it was recently passed 18 in March 2024 and no cuts were mentioned either. In fact it was also passed 18 back in 1983 also for home use, so I don't know why it got rejected in 1987 after being accepted years before, only for it to be accepted again this year. Some sources even still claims that the film is still banned in the UK when essentially it might not be true anymore. Interesting isn't it?
Yeah. Their guidelines are an ever changing and near incomprehensible mystery. Oh! That's awesome! I'll need to keep an eye out for! Thanks m8!
I once owned the original British VHS of Terminator 2: Judgment Day (15) and Batman Forever (PG) and both movies on VHS were cut versions.
Oh wow! I'd never heard of that happening! What exactly was cut from them if you don't mind me asking?
U.S. and France for home media doesn't impose these strict age restrictions on DVDs, Blu-rays, or even via streaming oftentimes using their own algorithms or their own systems circumventing the centralised systems (MPAA is more for cinema and mainstream titles, CNC in France is for cinema and TV really)
Yeah, I'd much prefer a system like those. Too many restrictions with the current one which can be immensely frustrating!
As someone who specialises on a series with film censorship, I personally don't think censoring anything particularly at 18 works because in all fairness they're going to find oftentimes illegal or dodgier ways of seeking the 'forbidden fruit' via torrenting, buying copies illegally from the U.S. or France, or seeing the questionable clips on UA-cam without the age restrictions. Age restrictions more or less diminished with the advent of easily accessible and cheap Internet broadband and WiFi to all these young'uns. You'll be surprised to see the number of under-16s, even under-13s who saw let's say NIGHTMARE ON ELM ST., SAW, or the IT film from 2017 when they were children.
Hope you’re doing well 😊
I've been very busy lately so I'm sorry that I haven't been uploading. I do hope to get back to it eventually but that'll have to be when I have time to sit down and make them.
Glad this video was made, one of the linked video from yt was on my watchlist for a while bcs I don’t want to see tier 4 and deeper, I don’t watch many of movies even on tier 2 n 3 tho I kinda like typical iceberg - they made me broaden a vision of something but in this case I’m not so sure about exploring Anyway thanks for video I’m waiting for more:]
Glad you found the video helpful! Yeah, even I'm put off by stuff from most of tier 4 and pretty much anything beyond that. Yeah, been meaning to get back and make videos but I've been very busy lately but I fully intend to do so.
I recently saw High Tension, and it was pretty wild. You will definitely want to watch it twice.
Definitely! There's also an interesting scene that was cut out earlier because the director thought it seemed too obvious. Don't want to say it for obvious reasons but it's worth finding out about.
In another life, Tom Savini was a biker with a crotch gun.
Haha! Sweet From Dusk Till Dawn reference! He's quite enjoyable as an actor as well!
The US kind of does what you were suggesting. The ratings aren't enforced they go G PG PG-13 R (17+) NC-17 (18+) Honestly seems like an odd pattern. There's also on for TV (they sometimes use for home video releases as well) TV-Y, TV-G, TV-Y7, TV-PG, TV-14, TV-MA
Yeah, it seems like it would be a better system overall. One thing I don't get is NC-17 though. Apparently it's so bad to get that that most films end up either getting trimmed to an R or released unrated. I get the trimming to an R but there should never be a situation where going unrated is better than having the max rating.
@@immortalliumhorror8718 People often mistake NC-17 for being equivalent to the BBFC's R-18. Maybe in terms of how it's treated however the rating on it's own is closer to just 18. Now I was wondering if you the German rating system. There seems to be a strange situation I can't QUITE get. You see for what I hear the MPA doesn't rate p---. I hear the FSK doesn't in Germany either. In the US Interspecies Reviewers was released by a p( )n company (despite not being REAL p--) Now in Germany it was rated mix of 16 and 18. So I asked someone if it's rated the equivalent of R-18 in the US and 18 in Germany. Are they not rated the same? He said "there is no equivalent of R-18 in the US the MPA doesn't rate p***. NC-17 is just equivalent of 18." That's my point! And now I'm confused as all heck! because it's still 18+ either way, right! BUT the difference is you CAN find 18 on streaming in Germany, whereas EVEN the streaming version of Interspecies Reviewers was censored to TV-MA (since the ratings on most streaming sites in the US only go up to 17) but they do go up to 18 for movies since NC-17 is NOW 18 and up. Now in Australia they actually do have an R-18 equivalent called X-18+ and it was banned over there. Which makes me even more confused! However in Australia the streaming version was SO censored it was rated MA-15+!
@@cradica Ratings systems boggle my mind. You should hear me rant about them to my friends! I remember hearing that that show was controversial but I didn't realise that a p**n company had rescue licensed it! Fascinating. I'm not particularly familiar with the German ratings system. Australia has always been particularly sensitive when it comes to media. I remember hearing lots of stories about movies and video games getting banned there since they were refused a rating. I understand why ratings exist but man are they confusing and contradictory!
@@immortalliumhorror8718 Fitting that you replied to me now! I just saw someone mention how it was banned in this video, but he said it was originally rated MA. What a crazy coincidence! In America it was also rated a rating called "MA" but was re-rated to a warning screen that looks like this: ua-cam.com/video/C97L3pR5H5k/v-deo.html. This was his video ua-cam.com/video/tNtRnl7S_Kk/v-deo.html Now I remember telling someone how in the US the first 3 episodes were rated 17+ and she asked if they'd rate it by episode. I said it'd be on a blu-ray. So she said it's call going to have the same rating. Ironically on the Germany release they did rate it by disc!
@@cradica The BBFC rates things disc to disc as well. One disc could be PG and another be 15! Yeah, Australia needs to reform their ratings board as well. Too many problems to even list!
A minute and 41 is enough time for a *lot* to happen especially in a horror film. I’m curious as to how the USA’s censorship is compared to the rest of the World. 🤔 Hope you’re doing well 👍
Definitely. I don't know how much of a difference it would make to this film in particular but I generally want to experience as close to how the director and writers envisioned it.
The part with the cat in Drag Me To Hell got to me as well. I haven't been able to watch much of The Handmaid's Tale because it hilighted real life fears I have. I also had to take a break from horror movies after watching The Brood. There were parts that hit a bit too close to home especially near the end.
Glad to hear that I wasn't the only one! Oh wow! Listening to people's stories, it does seem that real life fears and traumas play into why we end up getting upset in certain media. Thanks for sharing those moments.
I have a few genuine video nasty tapes in my collection myself. -My favourites being Zombie Flesh-Eaters "strong uncut version" and the accidentally released uncut version of The Burning. I have to agree with you the bbfc we're nothing but oppressive and self-righteous pricks with a god complex.
That's awesome! I'm hoping to see Zombie Flesh-Eaters soon so I'll be interested to see how it is. It's frustrating but I can only hope that the BBFC becomes more lax. They provide a good service but the limitations that they put in place can be annoying. Hopefully we can see an uncut release of I Spit on your Grave released over here someday.
The worst horror movie I ever saw was Come And See. What's even worst is its based on a true story.
Oh wow! That does seem horrifying! I hadn't heard of this film before but thanks for mentioning it since I'm quite curious about it.
@@immortalliumhorror8718 it's about the 36th SS Dirlewanger gruppe in Bylorusso. There was live ammunition used on the actors.
@@aaronomahony Oh wow! None of them died right? How did they stay safe?
Another horror movie that I enjoyed was Underworld: Evolution and Willy’s wonderland. They are not bad to me but people told me they didn’t think they were good.
Underworld is a series that I've been curious about but haven't gotten to yet. I haven't seen Willy's Wonderland but I did hear of it when I was doing research on the Banana Splits Movie. Curious to see it myself.
I love seed of chunky for all those reasons. Omg I have never heard of Leprechaun 4: In Space. I have to see it now lol.
Glad to hear that someone out there agrees! Yeah, definitely check it out, it's worth watching just to have an opinion.
I don’t think I told you how I found your channel. I’m 36% Irish, enjoy horror and paranormal videos and channels that combine any of the above, and UA-cam got the algorithm right.
Awesome! I think you mentioned it when we were talking about the Hellraiser franchise. Still good to know though!
I’ve never heard that term. Thank you for educating me on a new genre of horror I think I would enjoy. I always enjoy your content. I’ve been wanting to see Martyrs, and the others sound interesting. Take good care 👍☀️♥️
Interestingly, I logged onto Shudder the day before this video went up and saw that both High Tension and Frontiers were on there. Worth checking out if you subbed to it.
A good drinking game: Watch this video and drink every time he says "New French Extremity". So NFE might be an OK replacement for saying "New French Extremity" every ten seconds. New French Extremity.
Haha! I think it's ok, I don't think it takes too much time. By all means though, someone play a drinking game with this video and let me know how it went!
Since we're talking about Extremity in horror, have you seen Terrifier 2? Apparently folks have been passing out or throwing up watching it.
@@erikbrown207 I definitely want to check that one out! For some reason, the blu-ray collection on Amazon that has both Terrifier films is unavailable but I definitely want to pick that set up. Would love to see if the film is truly passing out or throwing up worthy!
@@immortalliumhorror8718 It’s the most gratuitously violent and psychologically uncomfortable that I can see that happening on big screen. I watched it here on YT on Halloween, and I was totally blown away by it. If all slasher movies were like this I don’t think I could watch them anymore. The deaths are beyond gory, and the victims are too believable.
Oh wow! I really want to check it out now! I might love it or hate it but it sounds like I should have an opinion on it!
If you’ve seen all of the Friday the 13th movies? Would like to hear your opinions 👍
I've yet to see Jason Goes To Hell: The Final Friday and Jason X. For whatever reason I can't find a decent priced copy anywhere. I'll see them someday I'm sure but I don't know when.
It seems like if a movie goes past 3 they seem to go downhill, just my opinion 😊 The remake with Jessica was amazing to me, with it being a remake. When the engagement ring dropped my heart skipped a beat lol! I also love it when a movie is so bad that I have to keep watching!! Good review 👍 Have a great day ☀️😁 Edit: I haven’t seen all the series yet but of the 4 I have I agree with the original being the best, but I got a lot of enjoyment out of the second film as well.
Ah, I do think I remember hearing that moment hit a lot of people hard. Yeah, the second film is great but I also understand people being put off by the shift in style and tone.
I like the photography and the yellowish filter they used for the 2003 remake a lot!
I would have said the 2003 remake was more grey but I do think there is some great cinematography in that film.
Major horror buff..,... Chucky is back. New subscribe
Thanks!
What is the name of the book? I’m certain I would really enjoy it. Thank you! Edit: Devils Rejects 🙌🔥👍 I’m 49. I found my love for horror when I watched Poltergeist in I believe 1982? I find it interesting that the image of Leatherface struck you the way it did me in that I didn’t know who he was at the time either. That movie is so iconic! I would like to own a copy of both that list and that book. Both seem like an adventure! Take care 😊 The UA-cam algorithm sent me your channel recommendation because I love horror, and visiting Ireland is a dream of mine. My Mom was Irish. Small world 😁
The book where I first saw Texas Chainsaw Massacre? It was 1001 movies you must see before you die. Oh wow! Amazing to know that you had that same reaction. The list you can check out, it's Empire Magazines top 500 movies of all time. There was an updated list later released but I think the one I used was from around 2009. Haha, I wonder what you'd think of Ireland. Hope you get to visit in the future.
not a horror movie but I'd like to a give a mention to Black Mirror's "White Christmas" episode because the ending to that has to be one of the top 5 most horrifying scenes from any show or movie IMO the concept of being trapped like the character is at the end is bad enough, but when they leave the device on over the weekend and imply he's in this simulated room with ear piercing music playing FOR MILLIONS OF YEARS with no possible way to escape or even die is such a terrifying concept to me and it left me thinking about it for weeks after seeing the episode like I was actually kind of messed up and left a bit traumatized for a while, and I don't think any other movie or show has ever done that in the same way
You know what, you're totally right! I remember it being quite a disturbing ending, which is very appropriate for Black Mirror. Thanks for sharing that experience as I'd forgotten how disturbing it was.
I forgot to ask if you have seen 31 yet? I was impressed with the set, actors and watching the special features. I love how crude and in your face Devils Rejects is. 👍
I actually haven't yet. Got it on my watch list on Shudder but I haven't gotten around to it yet. I'll be looking forward to seeing it after hearing that. Yeah, it's so visceral but manages to drag you into its world.
I’ve never heard of I Saw the Devil. Thank you! Sounds like a good story. Clive Barker ✋ I saw Hellraiser at the movies when it first made it to the screen, and it has never lost its luster.
It's great! Definitely check it out and let me know your thoughts on it. I love Clive Barker, the Books of Bloods left an enormous impact on me after I read them and I adore the first two Hellraiser films! I would love to have seen that film with an enthusiastic crowd, sounds amazing.
@@immortalliumhorror8718 The first two Hellraiser👍 The third was ok, but kinda downhill from there lol! I’m looking into the books. You are bringing a lot to the horror table. Thank you 🎉
@@LightandLove73 Yeah, I'm a fan of Deep Space Nine so I was actually kinda looking forward to Hellraiser 3 because Terry Farrell was the lead. It just felt so lacklustre compared to the first two and I've never been excited to check out the rest of the franchise since then. Hoping that the new Hellraiser film is good but we'll just have to see. Glad to hear it!
@@immortalliumhorror8718 You aren’t missing much 😁 I’m looking forward to the new female Pinhead! That’s a twist I never would’ve expected.
I've heard good things about it so far so I'm quite excited about it as well.
You’re quite articulate! I get it. Mine was Midsommar because I’m over 1/4 Swedish, and it felt like I connected on some weird far off level almost like deja vu. Drag me was like my imagination put to film with a fear of going to Hell back then. Plus, her reactions are expressions were unnerving to me. Enjoyed your take 👍 New subscriber 😁
Oh man! I could not even imagine what it must be like to watch that film being Swedish. Awesome to hear. Thanks!
The movie hostel, when the lady gets her eye fried then cut and that yellow puss/fluid comes out... I still think about that scene to this day and I watched it when it came out in theaters almost 2 decades ago.
Oh man! I remember a lot of people got really disturbed by that. Thanks for sharing!
When kids die in horror movies is pretty gruesome hereditary is so insane
That death was incredibly shocking and caught me off guard as well.
The green inferno
Ah, that makes sense. Considering its inspiration, I imagine that film is quite difficult to stomach.
Just found your channel on my recommended. Was very surprised to see that you aren't well known. Great content, keep up the good work :)
Thank you very much! Means a lot to hear that!
Reservoir Dogs: the ear Scanners: police being controlled to commit suicide The Human Centipede: doctor uses nerve block on 3 people, then explains the details of his experiment Hostel: the drill in the leg Usually when people are trapped and are hearing their fate, then experiencing the horror of it. It's the future knowledge of what you're about to face, and totally helpless.
I actually know someone who experiences something similar to that. I wasn't fazed by Hostel and made the mistake of showing it to a friend. She was really upset, REALLY upset and I didn't think she would be since she'd seen a lot of other horror movies. Turned out it was because of a trauma from her childhood about being restrained but that experience was one reason why I wanted to think about and learn more about what upsets people and really gets under their skin. Thanks for sharing that experience.
@@immortalliumhorror8718 I saw Scanners at the theater when I was 14. I started passing out, because I thought the guy chasing Michael Outside was the protagonist, and was going to make it through the entire movie. When he was killed off, it shocked me. My father made us leave shortly after, thinking it was the exploding head, but it wasn't. The Reservoir Dogs, I actually had to sto the film, lay down for about 15 - 20 minutes, and get the thoughts out of my head. I actually became very nauseous and didn't want to run to the bathroom to vomit. It made me that physically ill. I watched Hostel at the theater, and I thought that drill sequence went on for over a minute. I later watched it on TV with my gf, and I warned her, it's gruesome, and it goes on and on. It actually was under 4 seconds if I'm not mistaken, but my mind obviously had that moment of torture stuck in my head. The Human Centipede also made me ill as the doctor described the procedure, and I also had to stop watching momentarily to prevent being ill. Some films take you into an actual nightmare, and others can show similar things, but do nothing. It is interesting for sure.
Wow! That's incredible. Thank you for that information, particularly the first one since I had a similar experience when I was at a museum in Canada where my parents completely misinterpreted what had me upset.
Very relatable explanation all around! Have you watched Nocturnal Animals? I consider myself to be pretty hard to impress, but that one got well under my skin!
I haven't but looking it up, it has an incredible cast! I'll take note of it so thanks for letting me know about it.
As I was watching this a video, I was genuinely surprised with how you were able to process your emotions in a way that made sense to me; it’s not often that I can understand people emotionally. Once you said you were autistic, everything clicked for me. As someone on the spectrum, it was really refreshing to hear the opinions of someone with similar experiences. I’ve only recently gotten into consuming horror media, so I can’t say I’ve found anything that has upset me to the degree you’re describing here, but there is something outside of horror that always makes me incredibly uncomfortable: scenes that center on awkwardness/embarrassment. If it lasts for anything longer than 5-10 seconds, I legitimately have to either skip forward or leave the room. I really can’t describe how these scenes make me feel other than an intense feeling of “no.” (Kinda vague, I know.) Would you say this is similar to how these scenes make you feel? Legitimately curious. Amazing video, dude. I’ll definitely need to watch some more of your stuff in the future. Consider me subscribed!
I'm so glad to hear that! Yeah, I can definitely relate to that. I remember being told that, as an autistic person, I had a greater level of empathy than others and I've noticed that if the main character of a show or movie, no matter what they're like, is shamed or unjustly humiliated, I have a strong reaction as if I were going through the experience. I don't know if that lines up completely with you but I think it's similar enough for me to mention. Awesome to hear and thanks for watching!
@@immortalliumhorror8718 Not really what I was going for, but scenes like that *totally* get my goat, too.
Recently found your channel and I really really enjoy your setup and the talking points, your videos are also perfect to listen to while I draw. Really interesting that horror helped you socially, I can relate to the finding it hard to find topics to talk about with people😅 I hope you continue to make vids hehe, you got something good going on here👍
Glad to hear that! Means a lot. It's helped me a little but only with specific people. Thanks for the support!
Drag Me To Hell it is an AMAZING movie! So literally in the beginning of the movie a small child is killed, but the thing that genuinely upset you was the cat sacrifice? When you said that, I immediately thought, "that guy must have at least 5 cats"😅
Haha! Yeah, it's strange but I can handle that much better than the cat scene. Haha, your theory turned out to be correct!
I recently rewatched Evil Dead 2013 (spoilers below) The scene where the brother is with the dog in the shed really got to me. I lost my first dog in February and she was around the same age that the dog in the movie looks in the movie, and seeing the brother with the dog in his arms had me really upset. I still love the movie, its my favorite of the franchise, but it really got me.
Oh wow. I have that film but haven't watched it yet. Will be very interesting to see how that scene impacts me but it does line up with my thoughts that trauma is ultimately what upsets us. Thanks for sharing that experience.
There’ve only been a few movies that have gotten a real scare from me and that’s saying something given that I’ve watched lots and lots, including what people consider “the worst ones.” But the only movies or even scenes that have upset me are It Follows when the thing that’s following the main character walks through her group of oblivious friends in the doorway, Inland Empire when they look behind the building, and the one scene in Twin Peaks where Bob climbs over the couch. Looking back at those, there’s a common thread of inevitability and realness. I’m not quite sure how to describe the feeling fully, but something horrific just being there with no ambiguity.
Oh yeah, that's a great scene in It Follows and it is crazy how it's the inevitability that it will find you is terrifying. Haven't seen Inland Empire so I can't comment on that but that scene from Twin Peaks is super unnerving. Thanks for sharing that experience.
Great review, never heard of this movie before but I’ll add it to my watch list!
Awesome! Once you watch it, let me know what you thought about it!
I can really tell that a movie upset me if I lose sleep over the next few days because of it, that was the case with hereditary, just the awful build up with grief throughout the movie and then ending it with something very weird, random and awful. I did also watch it in a completely dark apartment, alone so I think that also contributed to the fact that it upset me a lot.
I could definitely see that. Hereditary is a very powerful movie and there's some surprisingly upsetting imagery in the film. Yeah, that probably didn't help! Thanks for sharing that experience!
Wow, I thought that Drag me to hell's main character was completely changed badly when I watched it. I felt she was very cruel as well. Babadook was an interesting movie for me and I did not go back not because of the story. It was because I thought I was watching a completely different movie. I had no idea what was going on. I actually rewatched drag me to hell not remembering why I did not like it. lol, A movie I can not rewatch is Things Heard and not seen, one of the characters changed for me an I can not go back.
Haha! I wonder how that happened with the Babadook! Interesting to hear about that film since I don't know much about it. Thanks for commenting!
@@immortalliumhorror8718 Lol I know the synopsis said something different than what it was about.
I had a similar experience when I watched Eyes without a Face. Thought I knew the premise and it turned out I was completely wrong!
The hurting/killing of animals in media has always disturbed me mainly due to their innocence and inability to actually fend for themselves and communicate. Horror films don't generally disturb me but one that did was human centipede 2. I think it was the unnatural silence and atmosphere kept up throughout, but it's one that really left me uncomfortable after it ended
Yeah, I get that. Oh man, I feel like I'm almost obligated to watch the Human Centipede movies some day but they just sound quite gross to me. I know the basic premise of the second film and I also know about that scene with the car and baby. Interesting to hear that the atmosphere was executed effectively and that does make me slightly more interested in watching it. Thanks for sharing that experience!
Do animals being hurt by other animals disturb you, or only when humans do it?
@@justinamenta7241 Only when humans do. There's a huge difference between an animal killing another animal, and a human killing an animal
Agreed. I don't like to see it but it hits very differently between seeing an animal attacking another animal and a human attacking an animal.
Then your scared of history the electric chair was tested on animals dogs cat's elephants before humans
Interesting video. As a writer, it's nice to get an insight in how to properly upset a viewer to add impact to a scene.
Haha! I can imagine that is tricky info to get! If you write something that this video helped with (even just a little) let me know as I'd be very curious to see what it's about.

The kid being dragged to hell at the start of Drag Me To Hell disturbed me, as well as the final scene. At the time I watched it I considered myself Christian so to see eternal damnation visualised seriously disturbed me. Otherwise, the film is morbidly hilarious
Yeah, those are pretty creepy as well. Yeah, I do get the feeling that it's meant to be a blend of comedy and horror but some of the scenes do seem to be quite intense.
